@ One-eye: Thanks mate! Considering just how awesome your White Scars and Phoenix Knights are, that really means a lot! :smile.:

@ Lost Soul 18: Cheers mate, glad you like them! :smile.:

A minor update again today. While I'm waiting for Forgeworld to release rules (and hopefully models) for the Dreadwing, in the interim I've decided to build a small, 5 man Destroyer squad. Although I'm using the FW Destroyers as a base, I want them to have an even more heavily armoured, almost knightly look. As the Dark Angels have a whole host/wing dedicated to this sort of warfare, I figure their Destroyers might not be as ill-favoured as their counterparts in other Legions.

My first idea was to use some of my leftover plastic Mark III heads:

However, I'm also considering using Forgeworld's DA helms again:

Not actually sure which one I prefer at the moment, so any thoughts or feedback would be appreciated! :smile.:

Thanks in advance :smile.:

I think both look decent man, probably prefer the DA one. I think it might be that Mk III helms always seem a bit chunky when put on someone wearing predominantly later marks. Either option will look ace I'm sure.

These are awesome man, nice work! Those DA helmets on MK3 armour look ace and you've just convinced me to get some umbra pattern bolters.

And for the destroyer as depthcharge said if you had that DA helmet, it  would look perfect!

Thanks for the feedback guys , and apologies that I'm not replying to you all individually. The DA helm seems to the most popular, although the Mark III isn't far behind.

However, here's the DA helm variant suggested by depthcharge12 and Dantioch:

I think that looks really awesome (cheers guys!). Unfortunately, that's the only one of those heads I've got at the moment, and I'll need 5 for the whole squad (my thinking is that they'll act as a pseudo-bodyguard for the Moritat). However, I've managed to track down another couple on ebay, and as I'll probably be placing a Forgworld order before Christmas, I think this is the version I'm going to use.

Thanks again for all the feedback (and yes, Umbra bolt weapons are probably my favourites as well! :smile.: )

A bit of progress:

Knight Sergeant Kalaziel, commander of The Reborn, Veteran of the First Rangdan Xenocide.

Not the best photo's I've ever taken unfortunately. Just a couple more models to finish for my Rangdan Vets, then I'll try taking some better pics of the completed squad.

The Reborn, Veterans of the First Rangdan Xenocide

Hunter-Killer Squad, 76th Battle Company, 7th Chapter, 3rd Order

The Dark Angels Legion

Veterans of some of the most cataclysmic battles in the Dark Angel's long and distinguished history, the warriors known as the Reborn were the only survivors of the Legion's original 76th Battle Company. Swiftly deployed with the first wave to combat the emerging and little understood Xenos threat at Rangda, the 76th suffered an unprecedented ninety per cent casualty rate during the opening three months of the conflict. The remaining ten Space Marines, each the sole orphan of an otherwise destroyed squad, banded together into an ad-hoc unit in a desperate bid to survive. Stranded in enemy territory with no support or communication from Imperial forces, and facing the most heinous foes encountered by the Great Crusade to that date, death must have seemed inevitable.

Incredibly, all ten warriors were able to survive unaided for a further six months, fighting an unseen guerilla war behind enemy lines. Scavenging arms and replacement armour from the devastation of the earlier battlefields, the survivors, led by Sergeant Kalaziel (the highest ranking member of the group), continued to launch raids and shock assaults against the Xenos armies, inflicting as much damage as possible before withdrawing back into the radioactive ash storms that now blanketed much of Rangda Prime.

By the time the Imperial counter offensive had reclaimed the world in the Emperor's name, each and every member of the group had been critically injured, many of them requiring intensive bionic reconstruction before they were able to resume their duties. Nevertheless, they had all survived.

In recognition of their achievements and obvious combat effectiveness, the survivors were allowed to retain their existing squad configuration, becoming the first veteran unit of the reborn 76th Company. Initially acting as training instructors for the newly inducted Legionaries that provided the core of the company, they later formed a dedicated Hunter-Killer unit, specialising in the eradication of all xenos strains. During the remainder of the Xenocides, the Reborn, as they had become known, continued to distinguish themselves, each of them surviving and earning an impressive list of battle honours against the Slaugth monstrosities.

Their good fortune would finally come to an end during the hellish years of the Horus Heresy. Assigned to the 38th Fleet's extermination mission against the marauders of Golgotha, they would fall one by one during the later stages of the campaign, each lost in the brutal fighting against their former cousins of the 12th Legion.

Well, it's taken me nearly four months, but I've finally finished my first 30K unit. I'm pretty pleased with how they've all turned out, as I was aiming for quite an individual look to each member of the squad, to represent that they all originated in different types of unit. For example, I'm imagining that the veteran with the heavy flamer was the only survivor of a Heavy Support squad, while the Mark III marine with twin gladius blades (counts as lightning claws in game) is a Despoiler. I also wanted them to look as though they were still carrying their scavenged arms and armour, hence the mix of Mark II and Mark III and the variety of different types of boltguns. At the same time, I think the colour scheme keeps them all quite unified (as I've mentioned before, I think I'll be using gold trim to distinguish most veterans and Terrans in the army).

@ Idomeneus: Cheers mate, glad you like them! :smile.: I've got the parts now to build the complete 5 man squad of Destroyers, and Chaplain Mordred is currently base coated. With a bit of luck, I may be able to finish him before the New Year.

Thanks for looking :smile.:.

Dude I'm loving the heavy flamer guy...he totally needs a skull faceplate!!!

Also, how did you do that grenade launcher conversion? I was thinking of using the terminator combi section but idk.

Cheers mate! :smile.: You're right, those breacher helmets are perfect for skull masks .

The grenade launcher was from Anvil Industry, but I don't think the short barreled version is available any more. They still do a long barreled version which would work equally well though.

Final update of 2016. I'm still working on Chaplain Mordred, but I have just about finished this fella:

Thanks for looking, and Happy New Year! :smile.:

Nicely done. My own take on the legion's colour scheme is whispering through gritted teeth that the crest would be better red but I really like it. The recent upsurge in First Legion threads is showcasing some very cool different ideas.

Born to the wandering clans of Caliban's infamous Deadwoods, Telan Mordred had been accepted as a squire of the Order when his homeworld was reclaimed by the Imperium. One of the earliest Calibanate recruits to the rebuilding First Legion, Mordred served with distinction during the Saroshi Rebellion, the Hail Star campaign and the closing acts of the Rangdan Xenocides. However, it was during the bitter fighting of the Vult Compliance of 002.M31 where he rose to prominence, assuming full field command of his company after all ranking officers were slain by the Vultari's bio-mechanical assassins. Despite his many victories during the campaign, Mordred stubbornly refused official promotion in the aftermath, instead requesting transfer to the newly created Chaplain Order.

It was as a Knight Chaplain that he would serve for the remainder of his career, acting as a beacon of discipline and honour during the chaos of the Horus Heresy. Mordred's ultimate fate remains unknown, as there is no further mention of him in the historical record after the Legion's return to Caliban during the Scouring.

Depicted leading a ground assault on the renegade Forgeworld of Sarum, Mordred can be seen here wearing the full regalia of a Dark Angel's Battle Chaplain. Clad in artificer wrought Mark II plate with the distinctive skull face mask of his Order, he is armed with the relic weapon known as the Sceptre Angelis. Believed to have been forged during the Terran Unification Wars, the mace head of this immense, two handed Crozius Arcanum was said to glow white hot in the presence of the wych or the unrighteous.

@ Brother Pheidias: Thank's mate, not sure I've ever caused dancing with a model before! :smile.:

@ Forward Assist: Cheers buddy! :smile.: The crest actually came very, very close to being red, I just decided at the last minute to add another white element to compliment the cloth on the left shoulder pad. When I get round to painting another crested officer (probably a Dreadwing Champion) I'll try a red crest on him.

@ One-eye: Cheers mate, glad you like him! :smile.:

@ Tyrannicide: Wow, thank you mate, that's quite a compliment! :blush.: I'd like to be able to update more regularly, but real life has a tendency to eat into my hobby time. Going to be even worse from March onwards (me & my Mrs are expecting our first little Dark Angel then) but I'll try to keep updating the thread when I can.

A blurry pic of my completed models to date. I'm working on a couple of Lieutenants/Centurions next, then I really need to get some Tactical marines finished.
