General Discussion Secundus

Got a little confused, they're dangerous environment specialists right? Or I'm totally wrong and will go boil my head

I think so. They specialise in void and underwater warfare rather than all hostile environments but that's generally what is meant by hostile environment in 40k

Ah. Void and underwater armour aren't exactly the Abyssii's expertise, but if we're going more generally for hazardous environments, then that would definately lie within their field, highlighting the Decontaminator plate of the Skitarii Decontaminators as an example

Factoid of the day: Restorer seems to have the earliest chronological appearance of the Commissariat as Terra prepares for the Siege. There's certainly a few years' leeway considering the protagonist a) never saw that much of the Army during the Crusade anyway and b) is newly back on Terra after four or five years of the Scars fighting in the Galactic wilderness, but dying Days of the Solar War seem to be the point of origin in canon.

Actually, in canon, there were commissars known as Discipline Masters, well before the Siege of Terra, before the Horus Heresy even began. The main difference between them and the modern commissariat was that the Discipline Masters were handpicked by the primarchs for their devotion to the Emperor rather than being raised in the Schola Progenium

Also I believe there are differences in authority. Commissars are theoretically 'higher' rank than Generals, whilst Discipline Officers don't appear to have that kind of power

While true, we also have examples of Commissars also holding another military rank such as Colonel-Commissar which would mean that they would be subordinate to a higher ranking officer despite being a Commissar.

Dunno. Anyway, I quite like a Space Marine noting it as a departure. Also worth noting that in canon at this point there were:

- Seas resulting from terraforming by the Big E

- Big old forests in what might be Eastern Europe

- Swathes of land that are bare cos of Unification/Old Night-era rad weapons

- No visible Himalayas where the Palace stood

Aren't rank holding Commissars like Gaunt incredibly rare though?

Yep, they are ineed rare. Another point of why Gaunt and his men are just insanely awesome. ^^

@Slips: Sorry, did it want to avoid he filter. Just thought that the pic fits. And sorry for double posting.

Besides, does one of our Legions recruit from Chogoris?

If not, I'd like to use it as one of the recruiting / conquered worlds of the early XXth.

If I recall correctly Alexandros brought Chogoris peacefully into the fold, aside from having to crush and depose the decadent Qo Emperors, Sim wrote about it in a very cool story I think. Let me see if I can find it...

That was Blunt's work. Should be in the Stories thread.

Nope. Sim, we have the early Vth taking from Cthonia along with a couple of other Legions, and Alex keeps his tithe rights to Terra - does he add others apart from Delos?

The FW books mention several Legions exercising emergency tithes at one time or another.

I believe I mentioned 26 protectorate systems, including Balov in their title page. The Halcyon Wardens, while not maintaining a formal, semi-autonomous region like the Lions, have various systems they defend and recruit from, if not administrate.
