Well consider you can still deepstrike out of los (terrain depending) to block apex scan and charge through the ruins.

Also overwatch on 5s? Is that a crusade thing because the only ultramarine overwatch ability I can think of is that they can overwatch with up to 3 units. But they still need 6s.

Yea that and the combined overwatch strat seems annoying. Maybe spring for a reaver lt for shock and awe?

I've been tempted, also because it'd let me charge that Punisher Gatling Russ. Yet another model to buy, but then again, I've always liked that one.

Finished the Company Veteran for 12 months Hobby Challenge here on B&C. I managed to give the kitbash proper paintjob! It's nice to see how the more you get to paint and try different things, the more you can improve :happy.:

The Raven Guard Veteran got even included in this week's Warhammer Hobby roundup on Twitch tv :woot:

Friday I jumped on the Cawdor Rattus Tatterskin House Cawdor Scum Pre order and then threw in a Future Sternguard Squad made up of Legion IV Recon Marines and a New Scout Company Captain or Chapter Master Lias Issoden (I haven't decided), Legion Vigilator.

Also I started looking for parts for the next 5 members of Raptors Team 7  for the Back To Badab Kill Team build

Damn, that's the best marine I've seen in a long time. It's hard to make black look interesting, but the blue tint (vs. untinted metal) and gradients for highlights really gives it texture.

Good skin painting, the lens and the shield decorations also add variety and interesting details.

Thanks @all for the nice comments! :smile.:

The blueish black armor paint scheme has been inspired by Darren Latham's tutorial on youtube (I am going from Black+Dark Reaper up to Russ Grey and Fenrisian Grey edge highlights & glazes to Blue Horror spot highlights).

It was the first time I painted a lens and it was a surprise how straightforward and good-looking the effect can be (black-warpstone glow-moot green-iyanden yellow and a spot of white on the darkest area)!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Zc2QO5BZcw

He's going to have a more angry-looking veteran brother later.

Finished my kitbasheded captain with heavy bolt rifle. I am happy with the face and cape. The rest of the model could have been done better.

I also have seen Latham´s black armor painting video. The guy is a legend. I decided to use neutral colors instead of cold ones, since my whole army was painted like that.

Now I am having second doubts to switch the theme :D

2000pts Raptors vs Necrons. Narrative battle. Pic is of the end of round 1. Raptors won in the end on points.

The Raptors convoy escorting a vindicator equiped with a special anti living metal shell to use in breaking open the entrance of the necrons tomb was ambushed on rout and a ensuing fight occured. The Vindicator was damaged in the fight so while the enemy necrons where repelled, repairs will have to be made before the mission can resume.

Just completed building and base painting my Heavy Intercessors. :) Will work on my Plasma Inceptors while waiting for a Eradicator B off of eBay I’m coverting into the Heavy Intercessors Captain using spare bits from Indomitus and the HI sprue.

Should have a report on the Heavy Intercessor first game later this week. Will post pics of them then.

Just for those interested.

From what I've read on Goonhammer, he came very close to winning it all since he was on Table 1 for the Final. If anyone here have any details on this game, I think it could be very interesting to see what worked and what did not. Considering the final VP count (56-58 I think), i looked like a very entertaining game to say the least.

To me this is such the archetypal RG list for 9th I am kind of bored of the army, to be honest. It's a great list, it's basically what I'm running, has a lot of great tools. I wonder if he combat squadded the VVs and how so if he did. I've had some issues with morale not doing that now that we don't just get to re-roll morale saves without CP.

First off, Claws is back! (applause)

Second, I had a narrow loss last night against my son's bugs. Hive Fleet Shiva was victorious over elements of the 1st and 3rd. I thought I won 27-16 because the game was called on account of bedtime (my son is 10), but then we realized he chose While We Stand, We Fight as one of his secondaries and all 3 units lived (his Carnifex had 1 wound left). That gave him the victory 31-27.

Third, my wife and I both took the plunge and entered the Heresy event at this year's Bugeater GT. We were going to wait and see how the covid thing shakes out around here before committing, but then we learned you have to call dibs on characters and we both wanted to use our Primarchs. So I'm bringing Corax (duh), and she's bringing Sanguinius. My wife now has close to 10,000 points of Blood Angels if you combine 40k and 30k.

So I've been painting like a madman for the last couple weeks because my Heresy army is nowhere close to ready. I have roughly 40 Marines to build and paint in just under 2 months.

In related news, one of my hobby buddies was an absolute BRO and gifted me an OOP Land Raider Achilles kit. I was pretty stunned.

Well, I got smashed 74-9 by custodes in a 1k tournament game recently.

Partly bad lack (e.g. a squad of 3 eradicators only done 2 points of damage to a vehicle, vanguard veterans with the +2 litany and strat to re-roll charges failing to get off a 9 inch charge, then failing the next turn to get off a 5 inch charge), partly some mistakes on my behalf (MOA-ing the eradicators to far forward, allowing them to be charged, not starting the vanguard veterans on the table).

I'm still torn between terminators and aggressors. The terminators lasted, but just didn't do enough damage in either shooting or melee.

Starting to build a Deimos rhino, and going to clean some Dark Furies tomorrow and start building a squad of Mor Deythan. Starting to set up a XIX legion force, been looking forward to starting this project for a while now.

Awesome to hear about everyone's hobby progress and commitments! I'm 4-1-2 in our Crusade campaign right now in 5th place of 24.

I find Custodes pretty tough myself, I'm actually facing some on Thursday at 1k. Their saves are just so discouraging. Personally I've been using Strike from the Shadows on my Eradicators almost every game, since they just delete something when they land and it makes it so much less likely that they're hurt or killed before they get to make their points back - especially since on turn 1 they're rarely able to get in melta range. Never tried MoAing them.

On the flip side I never find myself deep-striking my Vanguards because even a re-rollable 7" charge feels like too much variance, and with 12" move plus advance with Swift & Deadly I find I can usually position them behind obscuring and still make a charge on turn 1 if I want to. I went with a jump pack Chaplain this campaign but after having this experience I think I'll go with a Primaris Bike Chaplain since I haven't felt like deep-striking them at all.

I've been running Aggressors but I find them so meta dependent... and even then I don't think they're very good. Both them and Terminators suffer from having anti-MEQ melee and anti-GEQ guns, and T5 is good against small arms but you would really prefer the 2+/5++ against everything else. I'm pretty convinced I shouldn't have brought Aggressors and need BGV instead now that I'm being paired against Space Wolves, Custodes, Ultras, etc.
