Thanks Tyriks. As much as I like the metal models more than the Finecast ones (without considering the mediums used for casting) as I was painting that model there was a lot of soft details where I really couldn't quite tell if I was painting skin or metal. Several times I figured "what the heck", hit the area with a bit of a drybrush, and moved on. GW sure have come a long way from there in how crisply detailed their models are.

Everything built is now out on display:

Really wasn't expecting to cover two shelves so fully but hey, what's a Phaeron to do amirite?

I have to build another Cryptek out of a Warrior to match my initial one as well as 4 more Warriors to get me up to 80 total. There's also a metal Lord in my bits bin missing some arms I need to figure something out for. It is/was the alternate tattered-robe pose to the Lord I currently have so they will complement each other visually even if the look is now dated by the pristine-edge new HQs we've been offered. Side bonus I'll have a no-orb option to use for games.

Stoked to see everything out though. I find myself spinning around at my desk to just stare at the collection

New year, time to tie off the loose ends of this collection! As a result of stocking the cabinet I unpacked a lot of my hobby stuff. I found some old models and decided to get a quote on from the LGS; now I have this CCB, two Doom Scythes on order, and some hobby supplies that I was running short of. Feels like I'm starting off running here.

First bit of hobby goes to building and adding a few magnets to a Catacomb Command Barge. Allow me to introduce Nemesor Ta'lek:

I wanted a "wave of command" looking pose so pivoted the body back and to the left (back, and to the left) while getting as much twist as I could out of a made-to-be-rigid torso as I could without cutting things. The hand comes from the Lychguard kit and was swapped onto the podium arm, twisted up until it popped back into its socket. I was a little thrown off at first by the arm not having a cuff, but it didn't have one new off the sprue so that relaxed me a bit. I would have cut the cuff off another arm to add it arm-cuff-hand to this one otherwise (...I may yet if it starts bothering me). His feet are magnetized to swap between the barge and his base and the gauss/tesla weapon options are magnetized as well. I had magnets in his shoulder but they wouldn't support his staff arm so I glued it. It will be one of a kind in my army so easy enough to proxy as either a staff of light, warscythe, or relic without my internal klaxons going off too loudly.

I'm gunna have a lot to prime black once the weather warms up.

...in four-ish months. :dry.:

My last one required no magnets, the square plug fits in snugly before priming and even better after.

Chances are I'll be using them as Doom Scythes until I hit a narrative that requires me to teleport a strike force to a spot. I think of them more as a support unit than a transport in my army's backstory but there have been fleeting battles with the Eldar recently in my sector so I'll likely be responding in force. Maybe I'll have to send a cohort of Scythes to transport in a battle group because the planet's teleportarium has been sabotaged by those pointy eared jerks...

Been working on a new campaign recently so the gears are turning

Whelp, finished the two Doom Scythes (very easy build) and while rejigging the shelf to make it all fit I noticed I could accommodate another DDA no problem.

So now I'm thinking maaaaaaaaaaybe I will put up with one more DDA build and paint

EDIT: Got a second kitbash Cryptek done. Just imagine some fancy science floating above his empty hand for now....not sure what I'll do there if anything.

In that case, here's the back. From the Praetorian bits I used the top few segments of the spine (had to cut the top-most little bit off so the head would sit), the left/right orb off the back, and the tail. I clipped out the Warrior spine and it drops right in.

Thanks Tyriks. It's a pretty simple stand-in that, now that I have the fancier looking Crypteks, will be the characters who bring their mastery of chronomancy to assist my Warrior blobs in battle. It was sort of fun recreating the spine since I built the original a few years ago and just sorta sat there holding bits up next to the painted model until I found all the right parts.

Just realized the new guy has sort of a "come get some" thing going on with the empty hand which is sort of hilarious considering they fold like paper in combat.

Hi, love the blog, some really great models in here.

I saw you were looking for old citadel paints and wondered if you had heard of this website which still produces all the old paints?

https://www.blackhat.co.uk/product-category/coat-darms-paints/coat-darms-paints-fantasy-range/

maybe you would have some luck searching there for the paint you want.

Cheers!

Thanks for the kind words and link SM11, I appreciate all the help I can get with paints. :tu:

That is the Coat d'Arms paint range correct? I think they were responsible for an earlier run of Citadel paints from the early 90's but I can't seem to find anything that backs that claim up aside from their "blood red" looking very similar in hue to the classic "blood angels red" of that era (tall slim hex bottle with white flip top lid).

Gearing up for a new Campaign, this time against Eldar and with a bit of a twist on the mission tree.

49581793756_af74435277.jpg

There's some potential for hilariously imbalanced win conditions on the final match but I came up with a loose narrative that we have since tweaked that makes sense of the jumping around on the tree. We also plan on using homebrew missions to help reinforce our narrative and adapt the balance as it plays out. We're also using an XP point system and the character building rules from CA18 to make our characters unique to our armies and battles.

I will be writing another short story to accompany this campaign, which is probably the part I'm most anxious about even considering the amount of models I plan on painting for this endeavour  It'll be fiiiiiiiiiine

First up I must complete my four remaining Lychguard and then get on twenty Warriors. At least there's a proper spray booth at work I can use for priming during the winter!

Think I've got the first installment of the new story done. I'll likely pick away at editing and add more to the setup once we finally play the match/if my pal wants to add in an Eldar side to the narrative.

While vast sheets of Scarabs laboured across the surface to absorb the remains of Tyranid bioforms and with Talrynos’ defenses fully awoken in the wake of attack, the Dynasty's focus had immediately turned to reestablishing connections across the Talrynian system's planets. Testing functionalities that laid dormant for millenia was time consuming and mundane, though time at least was one commodity the Necrontyr had ever bent to their will. It was a shame, mused Dalrekh while deftly ministering to a woefully defunct set of actualization crystals, that Overlord Aaryekh so frequently chose to ignore how well patience has served their race. Awakening the Tomb Circuit was no trifle of a task in the most positive projections before the Great Sleep, if Aaryekh could at the least assimilate the reports he frequently demanded he may understand how foolish his expectations were. Scoffing and knowing full well that merely processing such ideas would be enough to justify a royal decree of engrammic disintegration he pressed on with the work; at least the Master Cryptek agreed with the Overlord on the pertinence of the matter.

The Tomb Circuit was a system-wide network that made use of the Dolmen Gate technology to negate the need for interplanetary transport of ground forces via starship, while also providing a means of instantaneous communication and data transfer across the Dynasty's holdings. The Gate circuitry had been cloned and adapted to a smaller physical form capable of being strewn about the system and relocated as needed. In order to facilitate the connection between gates in the circuit and to provide security in times of war a massive stellar web of relays existed spread out between planets that backed up the prime signal.

Several of these satellite and lunar relays had to be manually administered to in order for communications and sensor readings to be complete, and to that end almost his entire conclave had been dispatched via Night Scythe transfer to effect repairs. One site in particular troubled Dalrekh more than others. Initially Kalak, 3rd moon orbiting Nalheru on the 7th elliptical plane of the system, reported a serviceable level of operation but had recently fallen entirely offline with only baseline readings from the central AI coming through. There was a power surge immediately preceding the blackout with no seismic events of note recorded. It was curious, then, how technology that had survived so long could so suddenly fail. No one was left to send in his place, so Dalrekh called upon his escort of Lychguard to fall in line and set off for the translocation chambers. Since the Circuit had not yet been reestablished he would have to send a flight of Night Scythes ahead for transport. In the time it takes them to reach Kalak he would have to summon his aids, M’Reish and Bakalt, and make the Overlord aware of why his Master Cryptek would be transporting off planet instead of maintaining his post on the system’s Coreworld.

I'm at peak production over here

EDIT: Twenty Warriors, one Cryptek, and two Scythes primed black before the can went dry. Plenty to work on for a couple weeks while things (hopefully) begin to sort themselves out.

A great read NTaW  I have always enjoyed when you put fingers to keyboard !

is that the dice layout from a while back that you were planning on getting made?...if it is it looks suitably Necron :cool.:

Glad to see your Adding even more to your army !!

I'm a bit jelly of your Campaign it looks like quite an adventure

* is the rainbow test pic's part of your Camapign?, is it how the portal for the Dolmen gate will look :tongue.:

cheers, Mithril

Thanks Mithril, it's my intention that this story be 'more' than the last one so I may end up adding/rewriting the intro as things progress.

That is certainly the dice design I spoke of a while back, masterfully created in Paint for your eyes to behold. One day...

I've added a fair bit so far but the real prizes are on their way. Two Pylons have been in the mail for me for some time and I've just ordered a 3d printer so my physical Tomb World will begin construction over the next couple months. I figure now is the time to get into it since I have a bit more time at home these days. It will all be put toward campaign prep since we will likely be gaming at my place and not in a public space for some time. So incredibly stoked for that all to get rolling.

Can confirm, my Dynasty's gate shimmers with all the colours of the rainbow as per my son's diagrams

Awesome, a 3D printer eh! good luck with that,

2 x Pylons   gee whiz Mister that's some serious Necron Model Advancement there...

and yeah content to wait for necron dice...one day in the future (I would guess the current B&C dice campaign would have caused a pause in your proceedings)

Cheers, Mithril

2 pylons? You absolute madman (though I say this with a Seraptek lurking somewhere in my to fix queue)!

I can't wait to see what you come up with for terrain. Will you be designing your own, or borrowing others' designs? Either way I'm excited, especially as my own access to one has been cut off. Hopefully your crypteks are both efficient and effective!

You're right, Mithril. The dice are sort of side-stepped by the B&C dice, but also all these other expenditures

The two pylons will go alongside my one-day Tesseract Vault as a testament to the might of my Dynasty. They also make my Necron collection exceed my Blood Angel collection in points, which is kinda hilarious on a personal note.

The terriain and such I'll be getting from designers/thingiverse at first, Lenoch.  I can't wait to see how I can augment my terrain making capacity with this though. I've spent most the last two days watching videos of items to print for machine optimization and also simple physical and programming changes to make finer detail possible, and my mind is whirling with possibilities of printing off substructures and smaller details leaving the fine stuff to my other means. It's an exciting time.

Stoked. No word yet when the PLA arrives though :teehee:

Gotta organize the basement, found a good spot with accessible outlet and decent existing light. Gunna be a lot of ginger movements dealing with the basement though, I'm off work because of a shoulder injury that I'd like to have better sooner than later. There isn't anything too heavy down there so I'm not overly worried but still gotta be careful. Sort of works out I have no PLA so I'm in less of an excited rush to set up the printer and everyone's home all day so there's ample time to throw at organizing.

I promise this will be very Necron related as soon as I get past setup and initial print knowledge :sweat:
