Nobody expected the Spanish Inquisition!

Would love to see some space vikings (Frazzetta isa big, serious business!) without all the wolfiness :biggrin.:

Agreed. I've loved the Space Wolves since I saw this illustration in the original Rogue Trader

...but I've never been a huge fan of the cartoony, wolfiness of GW's approach to them.  You CAN actually be wolfy, revere wolves and even have fangs without looking like a sports team mascot or being dumb enough to run around without a helmet on  just because you have fabulous hair. Between that and my love of history and mythology, I figure I finally have the skill to give my original vision of my Dire Wolves a serious shot. I'm thinking the final vision might have some viewers wondering if these guys are Chaos, Imperial or something in between.

Well I've decided to upgrade my Raptors for 8th edition with some camoflage.  I'd thought about doing it for a while, but the chance of actually playing has spurred me on. The plan is for Tactical squads, scouts and any Devastator squads to have the pattern.  And any of those Primarus freaks as well.  Vallejo Iraqi Sand is the new color added over the old darker olive (Which I think is mostly Privateer Press battledress green, but what the rest was mixed with I couldn't tell you... luckily, I still have half a bottle and its still good)

But here's the Rednekk's Raptors 3.0 vs the 2.0.

15 more old marines, plus 10 scouts to update, then it'll be on to the new builds.

Wow, that camouflage pattern is great, really striking, and I'm sure it will look awesome if you manage to get a whole army like that! Does it take a lot of time to do it? It looks like the kind of thing that takes a lot of time...

Also, those comics made me chuckle, the lasgun one is brilliant :P!

Its defintiely fine brush work with a pretty steady hand. It doesn't take me too long.  I think going from the olive to where its at took @ 2 hours, but that includes detailing the panel lines and some other touch up.  Now that I know how I want to do it, I can probably lay the pattern in  at around 45 minutes or so.

Definitely want to do more comics. In the process of learning a new (old ) program I just got to help with panels, layouts and word bubbles, etc. I'm an old painter by training and pen an ink illustrator, so doing these things on the pc is still new-ish territory right now.

Lovely camo, that looks really cool. Camo on marines is not always successful, but you've done it masterfully.

Thanks! I'm an old scale modeller, so I've painted a good deal of camoflage in my day.  My take is I think a lot of the time that people fall a little short, its usually a scaling problem or they paint the model and not the armor... meaning the pattern doesn't stop at different plates, etc. Its a tiny touch of "realism" that can go a long way. That said.... I'm all for more camo marines. :)

Honestly, I may be nauseous.  B-but, it pains me to say this beyond reckoning.  I will be painting...... Ultramarines. Here. *cough* cough***barf** cough** spit* cough**  And it starts in the morning when I go to get primer. I know....I know....My hands are shaking and I don't feel right about it either, but my nephew has discovered 40k.  I have to tempt him with shiny loyalists before he can be corrupted..... er, uh... I mean, he really likes blue and thinks Marines are cool. Tzeentch says I'll be rewarded if I do this.... but we all know Tzeentch is an :censored: hat.  :censored:  him. :censored: . Being a devotee of the Grandfather, I know patience is always rewarded, so over the next 3 weeks, I'll be all tidied up, painting smurf-marines like a good little eagle wearing slave, so you better keep an eye out!

Regrettably, the boy likes them, so I'm a bit stuck.  The upside is I'm doing a "table top" quality kind of paint job.... or so I think.  I'm betting I'll go a bit extra, just because.  Lets see what I can get done in 3 weeks. I feel so....dirty.

The glories of Task Force Jordan await.  Its a surprise (hopefully) gift for my nephew.  Since his dad said he liked Ultramarines, I grabbed my blue spray and went after a bunch of mostly old models I had kicking around.  I did knock out a Rhino and Predator I had laying around, which my Chaos army will miss, but hey..... its for the kid.  His dad isn't sure he is actually going to play just yet, but I put together a playable force for him.  Of course, I couldn't resist smushing a few smurfs in the process.....

Task Force Jordan will consist of:

Chaplain

2x 10 man Tactical Squads

5 Terminators

3 Bikers

Rhino

Predator

Basically going after my version of "table top" for paint scheme, so not as detailed as I would normally paint, but still nice.  If he does play, he can get a feel for the game with these guys and I can always go after "favorite uncle" points by adding on to the force for him.  Here's the foot troops in all their primed smurf blue glory.

I started some of the trim and metalics on the bikers.  The Chaplain is mostly painted (He's been kicking around for a few years)  I'm going to tidy him up and give him the appropriate shoulder pads and he'll be done.

And the vehicles, which are basically done.  They need a few details, decals and possibly a little more weathering, but for the most part they are finished.

More updates soon, since this is like my main mission in life for the next 10 days. :)   Cheers Ya'll!

Please tell me that you’re going to paint that line on a breached shield like the old artwork. I can’t locate the picture online but hopefully you know the piece I’m referring to.

Ha! Yeah, I know what you are talking about. If these were for me, I probably would. But they are for my 13 year old nephew, so its going to be basic table top stuff.

I still have 2 10 man tactical squads to go. And thanks to s suprise stay at the hospital they will definitely be arriving after Christmas, but here's my progress on my Nephew's Ultramarine force.  The Chaplain....

More blue to come.....

That Chaplain looks great!

Um. I hear the hospital is nice this time of year. Are you ok?

Thanks! I figured I'd do a little extra work on the main guy. My nephew is 13, so its "tabletop" quality rather than me going all crazy like I normally would.

Yup, still kicking. New meds. I keep telling my wife its not the age,its the mileage. :) Plus the hospital is near Disney so I got to watch fireworks form my room.

I wish i had an army that well painted when i was 13... They look great Red! hope your all better mate

He's a good kid, gets great grades in school and I've missed a lot of Christmases being 1500 miles away, so when his dad mentioned Warhammer I said "I'm on it"  I've been sending his dad pictures as I go he's pretty excited too. :0
