Those are... *sniff* beautiful! I wish shipping wasn't such a big hit from AU.

I wonder how they'll scale on a marine since they're guard sized? I'm worried they might look like a pocket knife... Probably only one way to find out!

Almost. I've got ~11 models left and then it will be done. My commissions have side tracked me but I'm OK with that given they'll probably buy my plane ticket to Adepticon next year.

What great customer service from Victoria Miniatures! I asked if they had a picture of those knives on a non-IP infringing silhouette and they responded with a photo and I will say they'll scale just fine to a marine.

Finished the terminator commission! They're sealed up and I should be handing them off this week when I play a game (Yay!) at my FLGS. Overall I'm not a fan of the scheme but it was easy to paint up. If they were my models I'd probably have done more detail on them but given I was matching what he already has I didn't want to go overboard on them and also... time is money. I really wanted to put some decals on the shoulder shields but the only DA decals I had were white and they wouldn't have shown up at all. From the pictures my client says he's happy, true test will be when they're handed over.

I also stumbled upon a really good caucasian skin recipe. I was frustrated with the head and when I went to base coat a new color to start over the first thin coat made everything click. I'm very happy with it because I HATE painting skin. The picture doesn't do the head justice because my lighting washed it out. If I can get a better pic in sunlight I'll snap that and share.

After looking at them both for a day I'm sticking with the lighter color. I had one comment saying the darker one looked undercoated and that stuck with me. I also think my plans for weathering won't look as good on the darker model.

I started a new batch of bases so I'll have some available for my Aggressors and whatever 32mm primaris models I start next. Probably a few reivers to fill out a squad since a couple were done for kill team and then either more intercessors or some infiltrators. I also got one of my scout squads rebased. The casualty in the back lost an arm and the glue is drying right now.

Had a great air brush session today. Put some Leadbelcher onto the armigers for color testing. It's a little lighter than the knight I'm trying to match but it's pretty close. I'm hoping that the client is OK with it, otherwise I'll have to source a new color, but I've got some ideas.

I also tried out some shading on my infantry. I did a reverse zenithal of a darker gray and then did a normal zenithal with my main armor color. I got some nice shading and am looking forward to painting up the reivers to see how they turn out. While I was at it I decided to throw down a base coat of the darker gray on a Land Raider that I've had since I started the hobby. It was a gift from a friend because he had too many. I haven't seen Race in a while so maybe this will get him to come out from wherever he's been hiding?

Blocked in the rest of the base colors for the final two models for one of two Calth tac squads. Gray is done being highlighted and blues are next. The backpack is for a heavy bolter. I tried a little of the shading I posted about on the reiver. I think it looks alright off model but I'm curious to see how it looks when done. It will be one of the only bits shaded though so I'm not expecting much until I can apply the technique to an entire model.

Back to the Armigers. The magnets I ordered arrived so I took care of them last night. It's always a little nerve racking because I worry about getting my guide sticks mixed up and putting one in backwards. 24 magnets in total and all went in perfectly. Overall this was a very easy kit to magnetize and required minimal conversion work on the 'arms'.

Finished up two heavy weapon tactical boys today. Their weapons still need highlights but I'm not really concerned about that at this point since they're for Betrayal at Calth. The first two missions are now playable with fully painted forces. I need to paint the assault cannon and CC weapon for the contemptor and then the third is playable as well.

I'm very happy with the backpack on the HB marine. I tried a new technique with my airbrush and I like it. I'm looking forward to seeing how it paints on a whole model. It helps to show the contrast in light and I think will help my army pop on the table.

I've been slowly working on getting artwork sized for my decals. It's tedious but fun since I'm learning to use some new software and I enjoy tinkering... when I'm in the mood.

Tonight while determining force org symbols I accidentally made the symbol for my Librarians. Very excited because I wanted something to help them stand out.

Troops, heavy support, fast attack, and flyer symbol are figured out. I'm still working on my transport symbol, because that led me to the Librarius symbol so I was side tracked. I've also got one more design being drawn up that I think will be used for a campaign badge for models that go to Adepticon next year.

Smash/Slash Captain body is done and based. I guess I could use him now in a game, which I might... but I don't have any games lined up right now so I'll keep plugging away.

I also got two banners done for my MKIV marines. I pinned the banners and drilled the packs so they're removable and will transport safely. Unfortunately I broke the Raven Guard banner but was able to fix it 'good enough' by just removing all of the 'pole' plastic piece and pinning the entire thing. I believe from the Table Top you'll never know but if you get close you'll see it. For the Raven Guard I gave the honor of carrying the banner into battle to the very first model I ever painted. I think that's a fitting honor since I most likely will never paint another RG model.

Got excited as I think I've nailed down two bits of lore for my chapter.

First, the flower in their chapter icon will be called amaranthine which means undying. Since they're doing what they can to survive I think it's fitting.

Secondly I think I've nailed the chapter motto:

Our Truth

Our Terms

Our Destiny

I think it's fitting given their beliefs. They don't prescribe to the Imperial Truth but they also don't want to fall to chaos. They've chosen to ride the line between the two while still leaning towards their brother astartes in loyalty but not the imperium as a whole.

Would love any feedback that you all have.

Now I find this interesting. My Warhawks are strong believers in the Emperor's original mission. I'm curious what the reasoning of the Sicarii is for abandoning their father's vision of the Imperial Truth.

The Imperial Truth was pioneered by the Emperor on Terra even before the Great Crusade began. It was an ideology defined by the core values of reason, science and secular progress. It was intended to replace the older traditions of religion, superstition and faith that had long defined many of the worlds that had fallen into darkness during the Age of Strife after the fall of humanity's first interstellar civilization.

I always have felt the Emperor was trying to create a Star Trek universe and because of his son's treachery, ended up with some half breed abomination crossing Star Wars with Cthulu :)

... and the Eldar, always end with because ... Eldar ;)

Great quote, and I could replace Imperial Truth with Cult of the Emperor, however isn't it presumed that the Emperor knew about Chaos, even when he was working towards his ideological desires? So while he's trying to make this utopia he's also attempting to mask the fact that science and secular progress are only a single part of the universe? We now know that Chaos and superstitions are reality and it's a very dark thing. Which brings us to:

1 - The Emperor is all knowing and purposefully deceived all of humanity, thus deliberately betraying the values and goals he was championing

or

2 - The Emperor is not all knowing, and if that is the case, why is he placed upon a pedestal as this great benevolent being? What makes him any different than any other being who is trying to survive? He may have found himself fortunate to be in the right place at the right time to claim power but aside from that he is just a man, as is proven by the fact that Horus almost killed him... or did he? We haven't seen the Emperor in ten thousand years, how are we to know that his body is no more and he's just an idea?

Great quote, and I could replace Imperial Truth with Cult of the Emperor, however isn't it presumed that the Emperor knew about Chaos, even when he was working towards his ideological desires? So while he's trying to make this utopia he's also attempting to mask the fact that science and secular progress are only a single part of the universe?

The Emperor not only knew about chaos, he made pacts with the four gods for the knowledge to create the primarchs. And tried to shield the primarch project with Geller fields, so the chaos gods couldn't interfere. The point of the Imperial Truth was to eradicate religion entirely, and thus weaken chaos as a whole, to the point where it could not corrupt humanity or weaken its grip on the universe.

The people were intentionally kept in the dark about the true nature of reality/the warp, as a necessary evil. Which is what several primarchs saw as proof that the Emperor was lying to everyone, and not the great leader they should follow. It's kind of the central point for primarchs falling to chaos...

And this is why I need to start reading black library again. I love all these little bits of lore. I've got a bunch of the HH novels from humble bundles. I think Legion is next on the list, I just need to start.

I love these discussions though, they're great for helping me figure out ideas and developing things further.

I don’t see how we could replace the scientific thought process of the Imperial Truth with the superstitious slave nature the Chaos and Ecclesiarchy espouses?

Now ... I know there is a lot unsaid about the Emperor and how he became who he became in the first place ... but if some guy comes up and says I’m not Jesus, there is a rational explanation for what I’m doing, I’m going to take a minute to listen.

He grabbed power because someone needed to or it would have ended up worse (because ... say it with me ... Eldar;)) he could have been worshipped while alive but that wasn’t in his nature. I’ll give him a pass when he tells me I need to learn how to handle A before he tells me about B.

More On Topic (my bad)

How does this apply to the Sicarii “riding the line”? I totally get the Battle Brothers love them even with wrinkles (even our Templar and Wolf friends) ... but more importantly what do they believe? Science or Faith and if Faith, faith in what?

Imperium is a hot mess. Inquisition, Mechanicum, Ecclesiarchy, etc it’s all a corrupt hot mess that can’t be trusted. Dang it now I have to tho I bow all that effects my Primaris concept of being closer the the Truth because they new the Man when he walked among them. ;)
