[DW] Blackthorn and Swordhand: OOC Thread

Not really part of the current discussion, just an idle curiosity rules question for those in the know cos I took Dragonfire Shells: how do they interact with Hordes?

It says under Hordes that Flame weapons do 1/4Range +1D5 hits, but I assume that doesn't apply as it would be 30 Hits based on a standard Godwyn Range... (!!! :P)

Or is just the normal hit and damage rolls for the bolter ammo, then test to catch fire. How does a Horde test for catching fire? If it's an Ag test as normal, and it's failed, does the whole Horde catch fire or just part of it?

Thanks Mol, I figured it must have been answered somewhere, should have checked the errata!!!

Hmm, so does that mean if you're taking a clip of DF as a back up to give you a little ability to take on multiple foes (i.e. Hordes and stuff - I'm not worried about Titus v bigger single enemies!) then you're almost better off being cheap and sticking to Metal Storm? (Not that it matters as it's his free one, but still don't want to waste it on something that doesn't actually do much?)

To my mind, Dragonfire is very situational, but would be good in a pinch against single, flammable enemies behind cover to drive them out or force them to burn.  Especially anything not in sealed armour.  Hordes have a hard time hiding, as there needs to be sufficient cover for their Magnitude, so Metal Storm is the better choice for trash mobs.

The only things that beat it are flamers and shotguns.

As it should be.

ah but metal storm shells dont set things on fire which is something that might come in handy...probably.

Hope you don't mind I borrowed Sabaan for a short bit, XIn. :smile.:

Not all. Even if I am still catching up. In  fact, I always feel a bit touched to see him popping up. :) especially when I am myself preoccupied, but he still gets to be  part of the team and the narrative. I think his outward stoicism often makes him a great way to play off the other characters more emotional/ vivid traits :)

Also, he is usually easy to integrate...outwardly at least. Just assume that he appears to disprove of your meat bag tendencies and grunt something. You can’t really go wrong with that ;)

I'm not honestly sure if there's a lot to say, but I wondered if maybe there might still be a few who wanted to add their character's input? Some have put placeholders up but others haven't...

But I guess either way, it doesn't matter too much if posts are slightly out of order?

I've popped in a post to try to move things along slightly. You can resume any discussions during warp transit or once you arrive at the Abyss and have a better sense of what you've got ahead of you.

Xin - I have PM'd you again!

EDIT: Swordhand are now 2REQ over and will need to drop something; Blackthorn have 15 REQ remaining - so someone could pick up some more Special Ammo?

So, just so I properly understand the fluff side of the Requisition, and how to write it, we can't walk around the Armorium* to see what is available, we have to have it planned out before and basically give the Forgemaster a list of what we'd like?

* which I'm mentally picturing as a specific part of the Forges, this vast, dark, gothic library made up of larger halls and smaller annexes and sub-chambers, but instead of books on the shelves its guns, and ammo, and all sorts of weird and wonderful tech that we can only guess at its purpose!

But am I picturing the way it works wrong? Or is all that interesting stuff there, but we just don't get to see it, its all 'behind the counter' so to speak?

I suppose as with all things 40k, the truth is both and neither. Yes, I imagine there are shelves and stands exactly as you talk about. The Deathwatch rulebook mentions about how such items are relics, and Deathwatch marines are custodians, entrusted with them.

I suppose whatever the situation the Forgemaster will keep an eye on what you are doing - I suppose you can select items (from the armorium as you mention) and Fasumé could in theory reject your request; or extract oaths of protection and reverence from you.

You could also think about how your well-worn equipment from two years of Gallowbane deployment has kept up thanks to your assiduous care, which he appreciates.

In your case, Huntsman has likely been a stalwart companion for the last two years, so Fasumé is more "checking up" on you?

EDIT: Argent - I have emailed you!
