Eldrick Shadowblade
I really love this thread. It's hobby inspiration. Been consumed about army and unit painting... I have a few large models I'd like to finish this year. 2019 might be the year of the INQ retinues! Pandoras Bitz Box
Oh cool, I've been looking forward to more progress in this thread. Castigator looks wicked, I really like the iconography on his knee. How do you do your metallics, like the eagle on the chest or the links on the whip? KrautScientist
Thanks a lot, guys! :) Â @ Kor Dalron: A little bit of both, I suppose? At any given time, I always have at least a dozen unpainted INQ28 models and just as many ideas for new warbands. That being said, I have been focusing on making a proper dent in my INQ28 painting backlog this year, and so far it's working pretty well. Finishing the Deatwatch Killteam (two more members to go) should be a focus for the rest of the year, though. Â @ Gederas & Eldrick Shadowblade: Cheers, guys! :) Â @ PBB: The metallics were actually really simple: The silver was basecoated with Leadbelcher, then washed with Army Painter Dark Tone, then highlighted with Mythril Silver. The Gold was basecoated with Retributor Armour, then washed with Army Painter Strong Tone, then carefully highlighted with Retributor Armour. Â So here are the better photos I promised: Â Â Â Â Â Â He's still missing his base and a name -- although I still hope to get Commissar Molotov to name him, seeing how the Castigators are his DIY chapter and all... Â As always, let me know what you think! :) Â Kor Dalron, Gederas, Delta.Skies and 5 others 8 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344865-the-velsen-sector-krautscientists-inq28/page/21/#findComment-5191416 Share on other sites
Doghouse
Fantastic work on that Carcharodon, the jaw bone is a fantastic addition. Brother Lunkhead
Fandangllytastic work on your Deathwatch Marine Brother Kraut …… and thanks for the paint formula info as well. Gederas
The "better" pictures of the Castigator are just awesome. ElDuderino
Lovely castigor! I've missed this thread, I'm hoping all these new releases on the horizon will lead to more frequent updates:) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344865-the-velsen-sector-krautscientists-inq28/page/21/#findComment-5191586 Share on other sites
Bjorn Firewalker
Excellent work on the Castigator. As for a name, "Hindustan Johannessohn" and "Harald Fallgrube" are obvious choices if you favor Germanic names. KrautScientist
Cheers, guys! :) Â @ Bjorn Firewalker: Uh, see, I like that very narrow slice of Germanic names that do sound suitably germanic and bombastic, but not totally ridiculous to a native speaker, because you wouldn't believe how awkward some of those faux-German names in SciFi and Fantasy settings sound to actual Germans -- speaking of which, Harald Fallgrube really is a prime offender on that count ;) In any case, like I said, this model will be Commissar Molotov's to name, seeing how it's basically his DIY chapter and all. Â @ Auggs: I know, right? it's kinda meta like that ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344865-the-velsen-sector-krautscientists-inq28/page/21/#findComment-5191788 Share on other sites
Eldrick Shadowblade
Photo Question: What's your set-up and do you use anything to clean up the image in post-production? KrautScientist
@ Eldrick Shadowblade: I mostly use my phone (Iphone 5S) these days to take my pictures, except if I want to photograph something really complex that requires a more complicated setup. Pictures are mostly taken in daylight (I know, it's pretty unprofessional). As for image editing, I routinely use Photoshop to crop (and rotate) the pictures and adjust some of the colour and brightness levels. I have zero doubts that, say, Gimp would perform just as well, but I still have a fairly recent Photoshop on my PC, so yeah. Some of Pixlr's colour filters are also really nice for cleaning up photos -- plus some of the more outrageous effects are also fun to play around with. Anyway, hope this helps! :) Â So while I am still waiting for Commissar Molotov's input on a possible name for the Castigator, I am already hard at work on the next member of the killteam, Brother Mikahel Zephon of the Lamenters. Here are some impressions from my earlier painting session: Â Â Â Â As always, let me know what you think! :) DuskRaider and robofish7591 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344865-the-velsen-sector-krautscientists-inq28/page/21/#findComment-5192869 Share on other sites

KrautScientist
Cheers, mate! I'll be going for the same approach I've used for the rest of the kill team: A brownish, rocky landscape and a Xenos skull as an added visual flourish. Â So I was able to spend some more time painting the Lamenter yesterday, and he is rapidly approaching completion: Â Â Â Â The one area that still requires quite a few finishing touches is his backpack: Â Â But I'll be getting to that this weekend, I imagine. Â So here are the Castigator and Lamenter: Â Â And here's a look at the entire killteam so far: Â Â As always, let me know what you think! :) Evil Eye, Doghouse, DuskRaider and 3 others 6 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344865-the-velsen-sector-krautscientists-inq28/page/21/#findComment-5193317 Share on other sites
Pandoras Bitz Box
Latest edition to the team looks awesome and I love the group shot. It's so satisfying to see so many characterful minis adding to the narrative of a team. Â I've butchered German enough times to be glad your not looking for suggestions. I once tried to reherse some german to thank my friend's mother for letting me and my wife stay in her house... Hilariously mixing up leben and lieben, saying I was grateful she let us make love in her house... I said this in the foyer of a spa... Next to some randoms. *Sigh* Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344865-the-velsen-sector-krautscientists-inq28/page/21/#findComment-5193366 Share on other sites
Gederas
I think the newest guys look awesome. Makes me want to add a Frag Cannon to my own Truescale Deathwatch Kill-Team for Inq28  How hard was it to get that backpack to fit onto the Primaris' back? Not hard at all or? 'cause I know that Frag Cannon backpack is a bit of an odd duck when it comes to connection points, due to being for an easy, starter box model  I've butchered German enough times to be glad your not looking for suggestions. Next to some randoms. *Sigh*  Haha, good one -- most Germans would probably give you a pass for that on account of not being a native speaker, plus "lieben" actually translates to "love" in a more general sense as well, so you should have been fine Unless you're in a very conservative/religious household, where the misunderstanding would have seemed a bit more risqué -- still, sounds like a situation worth a chuckle  @ Gederas: Yeah, the backpack did require some adjustments! For those not familiar with the backpack that comes with the Rodricus Grytt model: It already has the connector piece (that is usually a piece of the rear torso piece in Marine models) attached. So my solution was to shave the connector from the Primaris model I used, and then try and make the one on the backpack match the curvature, so it would all go together fairly seamlessly. There's a rough patch or two, but the sheer bulk of the backpack covers it all up rather nicely Edited November 18, 2018 by KrautScientist Gederas 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/344865-the-velsen-sector-krautscientists-inq28/page/21/#findComment-5193683 Share on other sites

Evil Eye
These Deathwatch Marines are absolutely superb. The Castigator is probably my favourite (the use of the Escher whip is very clever) but that Lamenter is shaping up to be something special too! Nice to see a Lamenter in general really.I will say, it'd be pretty cool if you could work in a Marine Malevolent, simply because their fluff (the "spiteful hole marines") is both hilarious and wonderfully 40K, and also their heraldry is nice. KrautScientist
Cheers, guys! :) Â @ Squigsquasher: Hm, I have to admit that I really only have one last member planned for the killteam -- a Carcharodon. That being said, I do like the idea of having a comms specialist and/or a medic for the squad at some point, so I may return to the project at a later date...?! KrautScientist
Cheers, guys! :)  @ Bjorn Firewalker: My replay from last time around is still valid ;)  Cheers, mate! I'll be going for the same approach I've used for the rest of the kill team: A brownish, rocky landscape and a Xenos skull as an added visual flourish.   So here are some - slightly - better pictures of the PIP Caracharodon. Some finishing touches are still missing, but the picture should give you a slightly better idea of some details, such as the skin tone, freehand details, chapter icon and the suggestion of a tattoo added to the back of the Marine's head. Gederas
Looks a bit too 'healthy' for Carcharodons. Cause they're stated to be greyish.  "The appearance of all Carcharodons shares some singular details. They all have greyish, pale skin with an almost deathlike pallor. Some of the most venerable and ancient Carcharodons have liquid black eyes, without iris or sclera."  So unless this guy is straight out of the scouts, he should be more like this: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/images/a/a8/CarchArt.jpg  So, he should have a skin tone more like your 40k World Eaters ironically enough , or like malcharion's Carcharodons.
