I see you're as successful as me at avoiding big Knights ;) Looks very cool, I think it might look a bit better with the left foot further up the pile to have the model more central to the base but that would involve a lot more conversion work so might not be feasible. Looking forward to watching this project progress so keep us updated :tu:

That looks great so far and the diorama sounds awesome! Can't wait to see it!

Yah, it's been frustrating to say the least, lol.

At this point the legs have been built, glued, chopped, replied, chopped again, glued six more times that I give up, lol.

With a bit more build up of the base hopefully it'll level out. But his pose is sticking, lol

  • 2 weeks later...

So I finally got the Valiant built, and cleared a space to take a family portrait

Need to really crack on with the painting now, hopefully tonight and tomorrow I'll get some progress in.

Roughly 5.5/6k depending on options taken.

So more than enough really, lol. I wanna get a couple of big whw world games of knights versus knights when they are all painted.

So in 8-10 years at this rate, lol

Have you thought about joining the Titan Owners Club?

They allow 'Knight Banners' in now (you just need three or more Knights), but they've good, close ties to GW and organise huge games a few times a year basically just for Knights and Titans.

I've been meaning to do it for a while as they're predominantly (but not exclusively) UK based:

Well, that was the push I needed to start naming the bloody things.

Thank you and expect to see them registered by the end of the month.

Well there goes 40 minutes of my life sifting through photos saying “oooh” and “ahhh” like a child on bonfire night watching the fireworks

So having not really touched the project in a good month or so, the announcement of the Cawdor gang release has got me thinking about prepping for the GT.

So the hard part is now, army list choice.

Got it down to two choices really, a pure knight force or the more interesting guard knight combo.

The conversion potential for the Cawdor pilgrimage, baying religious nutters backed up by God's of War is probably stronger, cooler and gives me a better chance of going for a painting award.

And If I don't complete it in time, I can fall back on the pure knights.

But what do folks think?

Also need to decide on a regiment if that is the force I go with.

After seeing your work with the Great swords I would love to see your approach to Cawdor, and I think you are right your fall back all ,Knight list would be effective in a GT. What has been shown every year however is that troop, or mixed force entry's do best. Your paint work is splendid.

Cheers buddy,

I'll certainly try, the army needs to be finished in quicker time now, see note at the bottom.

That is a lot of boxes of Cawdor gangers...

Yeah, tell me about it, 8 boxes worth... I do miss my staff discount at times...

So whilst I've not gotten any painting done, I can at least start soon, last day before summer tomorrow, then next week at Centre Parcs, and then return home and I can make a start, with a load of Cawdor on the doorstep waiting.

And in another upturn of good luck, seems I've got permission to go to Blood and Glory in derby at the beginning of November for their 40k tournament with a load of mates.

A good run out with the list to practice for the WHW GT in December, and means the army will be done a month before the GT to a basic standard, so I can go back and work on it further, whilst amending the list if I feel it needs it.

Keen is building, it's gonna be a busy few months though!

  • 3 weeks later...

So after a holiday and a break from a things warhammer, the last few days has got me going again.

Last Sunday I went to the opening of a new 40k day in the town's gaming cafe. The shop was rubbish really, but to avoid the negatives, I played two quick 1000 point games with a crusader and 3 Armiger Warglaives and swept all before me.

There was no honour in it though.

More productively however, the Cawdor gang has been released, so I can finally begin my glorious "Holy Congregation of Cardinal Glick" *points for the reference*.

So rather than a boring Cadian CP battalion, I'm trying for something a bit more interesting.

Each model converted, which is quite hard with a limited model set.

But here's the start.

vJho17o.jpg

So busy few days,

The pilgrimage has grown to 25 members in total, so that's coming along alright.

I also managed to meet up with me old GW manager in his old store today (he's moved to Head office) for a game.

2k's worth of my Knights Raven vs AdMech with a Tanaris Crusader in support.

I was going to test out my valiant, but seeing two painted armies on a table except for the Valiant made me cringe, so it went back in the crate to be replaced by two more Warglaives.

I wasn't too worried about the points difference, but Gareth took off two kastellan robots that weren't fully finished and we were level again.

Really enjoyable few hours gaming where I drew out a prolonged win.

Snapped a few pics, that shows the advance of House Raven.

And then, before I left I swapped a load of AdMech and other bits for some new reinforcements for the tournament season.

Whether I pull the trigger on actually playing slamguinius or not remains to be seen.

@Duskraider - cheers, I do have some spares too, so that might be an option for the next batch. Good find!

@Bjorn - thank you!

@Thousand Eyes - so I've played games using the lancer, Atrapos, Maegera and Styrix

The Lancer was alright, but hasn't been used in a good while, the Atrapos also had potential but in the games he was used there were no big models to hunt to make him truly worth it.

The Maegera I found was trash, just way too expensive in game. It's the reason the claw was removed and replaced with an Avenger to become a crusader.

The Styrix is my MVP though, price is about right, the Volkite is cool, the rad cleanser is ace though - 2d6 heavy Flamer with 3+ to wound is lovely. Even better that it's damage 3! Ok there's no armour penetration on it but each fail hurts

Knights as an army faction really do cut an impressive profile on the table, especially from a distance.  Probably helps that yours also happen to be well-painted!  Have you decided on a colour scheme for your SM/BA allies yet?
