Thanks! I built the combi-plasma out of spare parts from Betrayal at Calth. One of the cataphractii combi-bolters - the bit with the hand attached to it - glued next to one of the plasma guns from which I removed the hand, and voilà! I'm sure it could be done with the other specialist weapons too.

Hello! Sorry for the long silence.

I've come to a halt with the grunts, as it just got too repetitive after a while. I'll get back to them later, but today, I wanted to show you a little something I snatched up during my time at Warhammer Fest Europe yesterday:

I've been wanting this sorcerer for some time now, and when I heard that they'd be selling him in D

What a great looking army so far! I really like your Typhus/Dyrath Kal conversion especially, bit it is all good capturing the feel of the Legion perfectly.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with the Sorcerer :tu:

DEATH TO THE FALSE EMPEROR!!

Looking forward to seeing how the sorceror goes, are you going to leave him stock or play around a little bit?

I've been wondering about that too. The detail on the miniature is lovely, really makes me stay away from carving away at the armor plates. I was considering glueing on a few bits, a topknot and some trophies for example, but I don't want to make the model seem too busy either. I picked up a Sons of Horus transfer sheet though, so he's definetely getting some sweet cthonian gang-glyphs!

Why fix what's not broken, eh? I reckon the gang glyphs will look rocking and give him a touch more personality.

I think stock it looks like a great model so it doesn't need much. If you can get a top knot that flows in the same direction as his cape that would look pretty fitting as well as the gang glyphs. Maybe paint that round bit on his belt like the Eye of Horus.

While it does look good stock, I wouldn’t be able to resist festooning it in spikes and chaos stars and all things evil, maybe the odd daemonic face....but I am terribly unsentimental when it comes to my guys, special editions or not :D

Either way, I am sure you will make an awesome job of him! :tu:

A tiny update on the (currently unnamed) sorcerer:

Ugh... that cape was a :censored: ing chore.

The idea of adding a topknot didn't sit quite well with me, but the Eye of Horus on the belt buckle that Hushrong proposed absolutely HAD to be done. I'm quite satisfied with how he looks - there's not a lot of work left before I can call him done! I'm already brainstorming for a fitting cthonian name and backstory. A latent psyker, formerly part of the Black Legate's command squad... that's the direcion I'm leaning towards.
Speaking of Dyrath Kal, I've been sourcing parts for the third and definitive version of the character. If everything's here by the end of next week, I might squeeze him in before continuing on with the grunts... painting HQs is so much more satifying than batch-painting troops.
Tell me what you think of the sorc so far, and if you have any ideas for his backstory or name, I'd be more than glad to hear them! :happy.:

Nice update! The sorcerer is looking great! What was the issue with the cape?

I understand that there have to be folds and creases in a cloak, but that one really cranked it up to eleven. It took me a long while to get a consistent coat of red on the entirety of the bit before washing the whole thing, and highlighting was a quick but messy part of the process due to all those tears and tatters on the trim. I'm satisfied with how it looks now, but jeez - I really didn't enjoy that.

The little bit of progress I've made is a bit disappointing. The sorcerer is next to finished, but I messed up the hand that's casting a spell... I'll redo the bit this weekend, after I've picked up some additional colors at my friendly LGS.

That said, I decided to work on the Black Legate a little. Perhaps it comes over as a bit unnecessary to build a third version - perhaps it is - but when I look at the model I build earlier this year, it still looks like Typhus, but more importantly, like a member of the Death Guard.

Plus, he's a bit on the tall side...

...yeah. That just can't be a thing.

I decided to base the next version on a Sons of Horus terminator. And which model represents the legion better than Ezekyle Abaddon? I initially wanted to buy the model myself, but a friend of mine decided to part ways with his model in exchange for the event-exclusive Custodes tribune Ixion Hale. He even threw in Loken, parts from the Reaver Attack Squad and some of the Sons of Horus torsos and helmets! I'm especially happy about the former, considering FW decided to can them. The only way to get more now are recasters - definetely an option, but the quality of their copies is always hit or miss. I've exchanged the cowl for something a bit more archaic and took away some of the model's extravagance in return - mostly studs and charms. Some of the runes will have to be removed or altered to differentiate him from Abaddon. I've also got an idea for a different breastplate based on a coversion I saw among Grieux' Red Scorpions.
By sculpting an Eye of Horus onto the badge in the middle of the chest, I'd get a pretty good representation of what I consider the Dreadreavers' symbol - a winged version of the Black Legion symbol, a bit like the one on this old piece of artwork:

His new melee weapon will be the massive chainaxe that comes with the modern Kh

Nice! I actually got Tuphus to make into one of my characters but even before clipping him off the sprue I stopped dead in my tracks. Still trying to sort out a way to make it looks like the typhus himself. I’ll also be checking out your new iteration for inspiration/ideas to steal. I started using 30k Abaddon to make my main guy but I’m trying to figure out how to change up the model a bit more.

I'm sure your Typhus conversion is gonna make mine look like a grunt! Feel free to nab anything you see here for your own use. I'm finishing the paint on the sorcerer as I write this, gonna apply transfers and post some pics and a brief backstory here tomorrow. Not really happy with the warpflames, but I did what I could. I should've looked for bits to train with... :wallbash:
