Discussion on the new C:SM & Possible BT supplement

Recommended Posts

The problem with Reivers is that they're S4. Sure, auto-wounding on 6s would be nice, but 4 attacks per model just isn't enough for their price at S4 to be worth it. If we could take Reivers as Troops, or if we didn't have to dedicate an HQ (Chaplain/rumored Warlord Trait) to give them the extra charge distance, I'd like them a lot more but as they are right now they just don't cut the mustard.

I personally feel Reivers are ultra efficient at their harrassment role. 90 points for that unit is amazing. They will pair especially well with those rumored "no escape" stratagems.

Fair point!

Why are people eager to give intercessors a chainsword, then? Seems to be Reivers to me.

Rule of cool? Added special weapons?

Yes, rule of cool because that's the traditional BT weapon, but arguably it is not very effective game-wise.

Edit : white scar reivers are scary because they have Dmg 2 and I think +1 to wound with either a strat or relic.

So they will be an eternal tarpit? Like 'nope, you're not going anywhere this game mister shooty tough as hell enemy unit'

I think the knifefighter phobos dudes could be nice with double exploding 6es super doctrine of that is true. I hope there will be something like a +1 to wound or +1 dmg stratagem. Or the ability to give sergeants a special weapon, even if it is a stratagem. Reivers with a powerfist thrown in would be a pretty brutal unit suddenly.

It actually looks like a box, which could have implications

EDIT: also the fact that its gonna go on preorder next is a good sign that for the rumor that book(/box?) 2 is gonna be out late november?

Given that half of what's in there has already released, hopefully this means that it'll be more akin to Wake the Dead than Dark Imperium, and thus releasing independently in time, and not easy-to-build. Given how long it took the lieutenant in Wake the Dead to come out though, we could still be waiting a  :censored:  long time.

So, in light of this release, let's assess our situation here :

What we know (at this point, I consider it fair to take Kikasstou's words at face value) :

- we're getting the normal supplement package (rules, strat, relics etc)

- we're pitted against chaos

- Helbrecht and Grimaldus remain firstborn.

Given the shape of tome 1 release and the other SM supplements, it is highly likely we get either :

- primaris Emperor's Champion

- primaris brand new character (for example, the marshall leading the tome 2 crusade)

Now, to speculate further, we must take into account our heretic counterparts, who they could be more specifically, whether it will be a boxed set or not, etc. It stand within reason to assume a box would be balanced in terms of novelties on each side : a new special character, new models etc.

At this point to be honest, I would feel spoiled if we had some kind of primaris crusader squad, because that would mean GW going from 0 to 11 with us and we're not used to ultrasmurfs levels of attention. On the other hand, merely dumping already released primaris models painted black and white would feel meh. To be honest I'm not sure what to reasonably expect there, for the moment.

Now my own speculation, you read it here first, is primaris new character vs brand new Lucius the Eternal, complete with BP&chainsword intercessors against new noise marines. This would/could as I said before tie in with slaaneshi stuff in tome 1 and I understand chaos players have longed for new EC models for quite a while.

My 2 imperial credits.

I dont think we'll get Primaris Sword Bros anytime soon though if we do get an upgrade kit then it would be pretty easy for GW to say "alright here's your sword brethren, you just mix this with an infantry kit and bam, Sword Brethren" but thats not something GW does. Out of all our iconic units I think a Primaris Crusader squad is the best option, it would be very easy and can be done in several ways like mix squads of Intercessors/Incursors/Infiltrators/Reivers and a special rule similar to Deathwatch kill teams, could also be simply Intercessor squads with +1A when the unit has 10 models or an Intercessor squad with 20 models instead of 10.

Emperor's Champion and an upgrade kit is all Im expecting in terms of model support and if we do get a supplement's worth of rules then we might get rules for other firstborn units, maybe Company Veterans in bikes or  normal Sword Brethren or Crusader bike squadrons like in Armageddon, I mean White Scars got Bike Captains back and Ultramarines have Tyrannic War vets so who knows we might see rules for firstborn units that haven't had proper rules in some time.

like i said before. Give us a upgrade sprue with Chainswords for Intercessors and then we can make them into sword brothers by stratagem which cost 1 CP and Primaris Crusader get the Swordbrethren keyword (good for our Vigilus Detachment) and one attack and one leadership charakteristic.
