State of the Union (Heresy)

Recommended Posts

I didn't expect to see the box or them to announce it, I think it's pretty clear at this point that we'll probably see their formulaic Adepticon announcement followed by the June edition release (Warhammer 40k/Indomitus, Warhammer Age of Sigmar/Dominion).

Still, to some degree, I was reflexively disappointed even if I knew better. Ka'Bandha is a good looking miniature, but I almost think they'd've been better served putting him in a Legion Dispatch, perhaps one of the ones they missed in December/January. At this point, if I see something in a preview, I innately expect it to be more than just 'chugging along'.

Previous rumours had the Heresy box and Warcry switched around in the Autumn, moving it to Spring 2022, that's what informed a few of us thinking it might be there, still time potentially but really, past previews are fairly irrelevant to the current logistical nightmares behind the scenes right now as GW isn't always getting to choose what's coming out when.

Well, since Spring, from what I can see, officially ends on June 21st...

We still have 6 months for that to actually still be true that its coming out in spring AND as the june release

What I am personally curious to know about is how people came to the conclusion that the HH boxed set would be revealed at LVO.

Blind hope. Nothing more.

I personally was sitting in the "hoping, not expecting" group but I think people are just excited to see it finally happen and hopes creep up a little bit every time there is the potential, not even the realistic chance, of a reveal.

I was also (without any reason) hoping to get some Iron Warriors Praetors.

I would go a step futher and say desperation, the game needs a strong shot up the arm, a big public wave of support, be it the box set, new ed or news on the new black book. The monthly freebies are basically life support.

People were not expecting the box, they were expecting SOMETHING tho, a simple interview outlining where the the next black book is heading, news on a new edition, or as it was leaked some kind of box news ANYTHING to give the impression that there light at the end of the road and it wont be another 6-12 months of total silence and the occasional 'if you glue existing units this way you can use this set of rules with little to no difference'.

People are just seasick and want to see the sigh of some emperor blessed land, not a handful of sand and the smiling grin of a marketing team proxy saying HERE YOU GO JUST WANT YOU WANTED.

Yeah... I had lowered my expectations alot going in and was frankly happy with the idea of a new Prae or Levi, largely because only underserved legions are really left for those.

But to see a model for a fairly generic BT which, while gorgeous, is easy to proxy with a fairly new and also gorgeous BT sculpt just flared my hackles up big time. Especially with the damned Ba Sing Se approach the presenters took...

Its a gorgeous model and I feel bad for the sculptor that worked hard on it, but I want to slap the Team Lead that made the call to comission it for this time with the heaviest fish I can find.

The strange thing to me, is if they just took their standard monthly article that they've skipped a few of now, and showed it off there, nobody would've really said anything.

Someone doesn't really have the pulse of their community right there, I think this could've easily been avoided even while keeping the sculpt and releasing it.

I think it's because where we are now. The game was originally supposed to come out at the last Warhammerfest from what I have been told so every time we get an announcement of reveals we all run clamouring to see if there is even the faintest chance.

This is why when people come to me with rumours because of how well known I was at one point I keep my mouth shut. :D

yeah I was honestly just expecting a resin praetor or character mini so ka'bandha was a fun lil suprise - I was extremely doubtful a reveal of an entire new edition of a game with a boxed release that was potentially shifting over to a main line game would be revealed on a stream that aired at 6am GMT with no kind of teaser leadup

honestly looking back at how AoS dominion was launched last year, and with that new logo making it look increasingly likely 30k *is* gonna join AoS & 40k as a primary game line, I'm expecting a reveal much closer to the stuff that went on around AoS 3rd edition/ dominion - namely lots of small teasers leading up to it, and potentially a dedicated reveal stream just for that

Yeah i think youve nailed it right there, at this point half the Specialist games are just popping up their new releases on WHC shortly before release. Its only really AoD and Necro still hitting the previews but it feels like both of them were a it of a damp squib this time at least Necro got a motion comic and the reveal of a long anticipated set of expansions after the "House of X " era. AoD just got a moderately obscure centrepiece which probably would have been a mind blowing Monday reveal but was badly in the shadow as a major preview.

The logo change definitely seems like the most significant piece of the HH reveal. Hopefully it suggests more movement toward aligning the system with the “big 3” idea.

I’d agree! I like the new logo - and the fact it’s been standardised (rather than just left alone) bodes well in my mind.

Always optimistic!

Question:

Anyone else notice the Red Books (army rules) are all going "No Longer Available Online" and just up and disappearing from the Forge World webstore?

Now I'm wondering if the rumours of a "new edition" are true, and we'll see updated ones this summer.

Or hopefully they'll come back in stock

That is actually interesting.

Interesting in the way that most of the rules for the game couldn't be purchased for the past few months, and now it seems they are permanently taking them off the store.

Perhaps 2.0 is truly real after all...

Over the last year or so this has usually meant a kit is being repackaged and having a new product code applied to it, right?

So, I imagine the Red Books will be back on the store soon enough though, because GW never takes down any rules/codex/suppliment books until the literally day their replacements are available to pre-order.

That's not quite true, the Craftworlds and Harlequins codices have already been taken down, even though the Eldar codex isn't up for a few weeks yet.

In fact, they haven't announced the Eldar codex yet, nor have they announced that Harlequins will be joining them, yet both are already down.

Another intersting thing is, you can order some FW Tau stuff on the GW website.

They are under expert level model kits.

https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/New-Exclusive?N=2512876101+340394247&Nr=AND%28sku.siteId%3AGB_gw%2Cproduct.locale%3Aen_GB_gw%29&Nrs=collection%28%29%2Frecord%5Bproduct.startDate+%3C%3D+1643619120000+and+product.endDate+%3E%3D+1643619120000%5D

It may be a hint that HH will finally treated like a real game again, if you can order the FW stuff alongside the plastics from one store.

No proof, just speculation and a glimmer of hope.

Whilst this would be nice, I think that GW is just trying to push some of the FW Tau kits which don't sell very well. The FW Tau range is relatively small (I don't imagine many people are ordering the Ta'unar, Tigershark or Manta) and it is fairly easy for GW to send a few FW kits to their stores.

The Horus Heresy range is vast in comparison, with a bigger range of kit sizes and price points.

If you look at the latest Eldar release as a template, I think there has been 9 new kits so far (2 of which are infantry characters), can you imagine what a kick start it would give the Horus Heresy if we even got 5 plastic kits!

As you said the Tau range is small.

Which goes for all non marine stuff from FW.

But that would make it an ideal test run which can be expanded later.

We know they are doing a new number system in the FW kits.

Maybe its q coincidence, but a new number system and putting FW stuff in the GW Website and a new Heresy logo may be signs that HH will be taken more seriously.

Maybe its to much of an expectation, but i will looking If they add more stuff.

GW and FW failed to read the room on the LVO and they went out of their way to troll the community.

it feels like 30k is being handled very differently to other properties.

Leak for 40k, or bloodbowl = Warcom article within hours.

leak for 30k = radio silence for a year.

Road maps for 40k, AOS, Necromunda etc

Road map for 30k? nope.

what really gets me is that 30k players spend a fortune, and sure theres a lot of people going to recasters etc so your loosing incentive to offer them anything but maybe theres a reason they are leaving? its mind boggling that they are willing to push away such dedicated fans.

Think you're massively over estimating GW's desire to 'troll' the community, tbh.

Put my conspiracy theory hat on and I might say that the *leaks* for GW etc. are part of a viral marketing strategy, whereas the 30K box leak wasn't. Though FWIW, I think that is unlikely because it is just a weird way to do business.

More likely that with the Avatar leak, for example, it happened so close to the planned announcement date that GW could just push the button with what they already had planned. Whereas the 30k box leak happened much earlier in the process. And/Or that the other systems have a much better defined place within GW's hierarchy and 30k has had to be reintegrated to that.

It is a pretty frustrating state of affairs, regardless. But weirdly I have hope that this year will see things rectified.
