It might be helpful... :)

...but also (so that we're not putting more on Sobek than he may or may not be able to give) I think we also need to remember that among the IG, as with historical pirates, leadership is a fairly democratic process? So if anyone has something they want to raise to the squad - like oaths, etc, but also pretty much anything - please feel free to do so?

Sorry guys, work has been overwhelming the last week or two. Trying to get caught up.

Narratively Kai, is not really one for oaths, but he isn’t against the team doing one. He is just here to do a job. Mechanically, I’m completely new to the rules so which ever one fits best for us works for me.

As far as leadership goes, Kai is open to suggestions and will value experienced feedback. He just preferred to have the final word when the bullets are flying. A firefight is no time for a debate. Lol

I will work this into an in character post.

Hey all,

If anyone wants to post anything more re: oathing please do (or at least get a placeholder in?) Otherwise, I'll be providing an update first thing tomorrow (UK time) assuming everyone has willingly/grudgingly/fake-willingly  taken part, and I'll move us forward a few hours to time of contact with whatever is out there...

Sorry Necro, didn't mean to suggest you should change it, trying diplomacy would have been a valid option... but when someone starts shooting at his ship, Achard more or less takes the decision out of your hands! :P

Important Updates:

Firstly…

Ok, so Orphiel (Mazer) is out and Brynjarr (Trokair) is in. To the former, thank you for your excellent writing up to this point! To the latter, welcome to the game sir!

However, I don't want to waste all of the good stuff Mazer and others wrote as previous interactions between Orphiel and the rest of the team. So to minimise any edits needed, we're going to say that during the first couple of days after arriving at the Arotil Salient, a fast Scout ship arrived from Talek Varn requiring Orphiel to return to the Crag immediately. No more explanation is given, with no clue as to if you will ever see him again. Brynjarr is his replacement.

I'm currently working with Trokair to Iron God-ify his profile from the Headhunted game, but as soon as that is done, we can get back to boarding the Bounteous Lady!

Secondly...

Sobek also seems(?) to be out… but I'm going to keep Kai on, partly because I don't want to change out a second squad member or re-jig the Sergeant role now! Also, as has been suggested, it may be useful for me to have an NPC, especially one in a position to give occasional orders to the squad! :D (Doing it that way also means Sobek, maybe you can rejoin us again later?)

Hope all of that makes sense to everyone!

Thanks Lysimachus, Necro and Black Cohort

Still catching up on this game, but Brynjarr, a void warfare and boarding specialist, will be reporting for duty shortly, or at least turning up. I’ll try and have a revised bio up in the character thread hopefully tomorrow.

In the meantime, (and do ignore the Deathwatch toys, he was built for a different game after all) say hello to Brynjarr.

Nah, we'll assume you all pile out in good order and the pilots have a target laid in.

Tro is just reading through the threads to get caught up, once I get the nod from him I'll post the next update!

Initial post updated, not much, as given the circumstance, Brynjarr doesn’t yet know anybody and there is not really much time while hurtling from one ship to another.

So, Sobek wrote above:

Now I can't edit Sobek's post to fill this in, but I'll try to stick with what he said. So we'll say that Kai just grunts at what Decimus suggests, clearly unsure of any value in it, but then draws his combat knife and follows suit. Even with his helm on, you can picture his lip curling as he utters the Iron Gods war cry 'Blood and glory.'

Of course, we'll have to move the oath swearing back a little, to allow for Orphiel being taken out and Brynjarr arriving. So Brynjarr won't have taken part, but if you wish you can remedy that later, after the battle is done?

...sorry, this is not an ideal solution, just me trying to pull loose ends together! :D

Thanks for the rolls all.

Quick question to AT (or anyone!) before I post the Round 1 update, when do I roll for Fear (start of round, being charged, something else?) and how far away does it affect?

It's a straight-up willpower test for the defenders as they first encounter Odysseus. If they fail they go to the shock table on page 277.

In the event that they find themselves engaged hand to hand with Odysseus it becomes Fear(2) and so they need to make a second test, this one at -10.

Thanks!

There we go, I think that is all correct... if any of the old hands notice anything done wrong, please feel free to pull me up on it! And hope the pic makes some sort of sense?
