Updated my Kill Team storage. Box One -

1000022430.jpeg

I magnetised my Kommandos and my Phobos as they were loose in the old box. Couldn't fit the Phobos in because of the Stingwings so they have gone in what is now Box Two with my unfinished Fellgor Ravagers and Imperial Agents.

I appear to be amassing unfinished projects so need to turn my attention back to getting them done.

Maybe one day I'll have both sides from a Kill Team box with appropriate terrain painted but who knows when that will be?!

  • 2 weeks later...

I have been working on my Deffkoptas and nearly got them fully basecoated and at the same time I have been assembling, priming and basecoating the Deff Dread from the Combat Patrol.

I weirdly started with the base and some chopped up sprue to try and create some interest. These 60mm bases can be a bit dull with just a couple of feet on them (looking at you, Ballistus).

Tactical rubble in place, I have partially assembled the Dread

Deff Dredd progress. Lower arm is posed for the moment, will be attached once the body has been fully painted.

It is coming together, as are the koptas.

Thanks @sitnam that's Vallejo Game Colour Gunmetal, shaded with Sonic Sledgehammer 'Marine Juice'. It is the old formula gunmetal, I bought a few pots at the pint they revised the formula. I don't know whether the colour changed when it was reformulated.

I like it, it is a bit thick but makes for a relatively cheap metallic basecoat.

It kind of looks similar to the pics I've seen of GW Iron Warrior, though I've never used that paint

Tyranid test model.

Wraithbone drybrush over black primer.

Thousand Sons blue basecoat

Magot Purple mouthicles

Thinned Basilicanum Grey on the big claws and hooves.

I tried Night Lords Blue on the carapace but it was just too dark and I realised that I liked the bone quality the Wraithbone dryrush has. I don't know whether to try and take it a level higher and, if so, what paint to use.

The blue is darker in the photo than in person and I'm stuck on base colour.

I thinking the same basing scheme as my recent Vespids. It was meant to be a grey 'urban' scheme but there was plenty of brown dirt in the mix.

Moar paint and musings

An urban scheme would work well from a "realism" perspective (they'd blend in a bit, like natural camouflage). A scheme like your dreadnought would work well from a "creating contrast" perspective, due to the change in brightness.

Thanks @Firedrake Cordova, I'll go with my standard 'Octarius' scheme - it means that the 'nids will fit thematically with the majority of my models. Texture has been applied to the base so we'll see how it looks soon!

Unfortunately, I'm missing the Ahriman Blue I wanted to use to highlight the blue on the Leaper so that will have to wait until I'm in town next week.

I have returned to my Ballistus Dreadnought and Bladeguard. Moonbeam Yellow came to my rescue and sorted out some dodgy purity seals.

I had put the big dread aside as I wasn't happy with the job I had done removing the purity seals from the Lascannon. Sanding has never been my forte but I'm learning that it is time and patience. My Tamiya sanding sponge was duly applied, I took down my primer coat and applied some Vallejo putty. Once dry, I sanded that.

Then I applied more primer and sanded again

I'm hoping I'm about there this time.

Bladeguard has a more yellow purity seal and sword hilt had been fitted

I haven't done much more to the dread other than to highlight his lens

The Deffkoptas are getting some colour on their missiles and their pilot's duds. More to follow on them soon, I hope.

Bladeguard gets his Storm Shield

And a sponging experiment

The sponging is a little uneven - it may be down to the shape of the sponge I was using. I am going to try a different approach next time.

I did, however, like the way the paint was layering up over the large flat surfaces so I think this could be the way to go for these panels, my bikes and my Impulsor.

Improvement with the red panels. Switched to a drybrush (Cryptic Cabin goat hair) and AO texture palette.

Then went back to my GSC test models. I wasn't that happy with my previous choice of blue so have switched it out for the same as I'm using for my 'nids. Ready for a second coat.

Thanks @Firedrake Cordova. I'm happy with it though I could then see a flaw in the primer on the missile launcher so took the sanding sponge to it and re-painted it.

I'll probably put the second layer on and take a new photo of the GSC.

I'm considering options on their armour panels - at the moment the ribbed elements are grey washed with Black Templar. Considering whether to go silver washed with nuln to brighten them up a bit or make them gunmetal, the same as the shoulder guards.

In other not pictured news, a second Bladeeguard and 5 Intercessors have been assembled and primed.

I really need to get on with the Deffkoptas.

Keep fingers crossed for me - my copy of Blood and Zeal has gone missing. I got a delivery notice but no parcel at my office. I've contacted the seller (my FLGS) who have been in contact with RM who have told them they think they know where it is - which probably means it never got off the van and went back to the sorting office in Swindon...

You have a nice shuffle of projects going on here, I think I should start doing the same. I particularly like the deff dread.

Also, I'm sure that the matter of your missing copy gets sorted out! From what I've heard, RM is somewhat reliable! But that might be a matter of perspective - the Polish Post is in a woeful situation and I wouldn't put too much faith in them dealing with a similar issue. Regardless, as per your request: I'll keep my fingers crossed! I've just googled what Blood and Zeal is and the collection of minis, especially the Imperial part, is very cool and I'm sure you're looking forward to get your hands on the models.

Thanks @Firedrake Cordova and  @Brother Christopher, Blood & Zeal has turned up. RM took it to our old office, despite it being labelled correctly for the new one. These things happen! I kind of wish I was in the old office too!

I'm really like the Imperial side of the box and also the statue as a centre piece.

I am pining a little for the previous generation of Kill Team with it's nice think books and plenty of missions - this is just an expansion pack to Volkus and uses those missions but adds in the statue.

I'm really excited for Typhon but have pretty much decided to stop my Kill Team journey there.

The danger of shuffling projects is that some don't get finished (Fellgor Ravagers and Imperial Agents glare at me accusingly) but I am trying to rotate them and chip away. The Dread took over, I love the model and really enjoyed posing it and trying to introduce some character.

Progress on multiple fronts this afternoon.

Layered up some Ork skin on the Deffkoptas. I was quite pleased with it &- Pro Acrylic dark yellow green - but my efforts don't photograph well close-up. Let's say it is a learning process!

Got some Ahriman Blue on the VRL

and another layer of Thousand Sons Blue on the cultists

I finished up with my standard German Grey on the soft armour joints of my Intercessors and second Bladeguard.

There will now be a short intermission.
