A short hobby hiatus for a trip away but back and made a little progress with Fred. Started some chunky green highlights.

Thinking I might take these further - both in size and scope. I haven't applied them to all of the dread head - the cockpit and nose need attention and I might extend the colours a step further than normal to pure Warpstone Glow  (currently 2:1 Caliban Green : Warpstone Glow, next would be 2:1 W Glow : Caliban)

Poor photo lighting means you can't really see the work that has been done!

Also applied my usual texture paste to the base.

Life means I can't put in a decent highlighting session on the Dread just now so I have painted the base, re-layered the Tyranid Warrior and put some colour on his base

Then started approaching the Nurgle Champion from a different angle to normal - a back banner.

Nie progress. Cool bases. You've picked a great colour combination (base-mini) for the tyranid; the sand contrasts well with the blue skin.

The banner designs are cool. If I were to pick the best, I'd struggle to choose between the first and last one.

Thanks @Brother Christopher, the banners were a fun exercise. Unfortunately, I have found that you can still see the pencil outline (despite vigorous use of an eraser) so these will have to be test pieces rather than used for models. It has given me some ideas and I think the sizing is OK so was well worth it.

The Tyranid base is my standard Octarius base I use for the majority of minis - XV-88 / Ushabti Bone with a Steel Legion Drab rim. It provides some in-world consistency that pleases me though with my impending fall to Chaos I'll be mixing things up a bit.

Progress on anything has stalled for the moment. It seems that I can't pass through an airport without catching something, not just the plane. Is Grandfather Nurgle dispensing blessings because of my plans for my Terminators?

Unable to concentrate on painting anything, I cut out and trimmed one of the Volkus buildings and magnetised three pieces so they don't take up too much room in storage.

I really want to paint them up so Jr can solo play Kill Team in the summer hols and maybe we can play co-op too. So long since we had a game of KT and we used to really enjoy it.

I had fun assembling some poxwalkers yesterday. Then realised I have two the same of each. I really should have done some head swaps when I put them together but I have set about with the knife and clippers to change some silhouettes.

A bit more work to do, I think, but they have been a bit of fun!

Of not if

Even if you've got some doubles, tweaking the paint scheme can work wonders in making it non-obvious (and a less uniform appearance would be perfectly in line with Poxwalkers, from a background perspective ).

That's the plan @Firedrake Cordova, there's one (not pictured) wearing a coat which will look too similar even though I have modded the weapon so a different colour leather will be employed.

I have carried on snipping some horns this afternoon which has been fun, changed the angle of a blade which made quite a difference too.

I have quite a bit in the queue before I get to these.

I hope that you're back in good health.

The poxwalkers are... ripe for some cleansing. I think you have an outstandingly healthy attitude to the hobby, given how many projects you juggle between.

The older I get, the more I appreciate this. Unfortunately, my two other projects are not suitable for this forum, so they rarely win my attention.

Thanks @Brother Christopher, I have nearly re-attained normal service levels.

I do occasionally feel overburdened with unfinished projects but I'm trying to be a bit more relaxed about the hobby.

It is easier for me to grab small periods of hobby time but that makes it harder to finish projects as I find the highlights and details need a decent session.

Trimming,  building, priming and even basecoats I can slot in amongst other life tasks but it does mean I haven't finished as much as I would like.

Nearing completion are

3x Outriders

1x Dread

1x Möderin

x multiple models requiring decals

To be primed

1x Nurgle Terminator

20x Poxwalkers

3x Inceptors

Oops, forgot all the Tyranids....

And still haven't finished my Combat Patrol to have that game of 40k....

Snatched a bit of painting time between finishing work and prepping dinner for the Family Boltgun.

Steel Legion Drab in the base rims for the Dread and Tyranid Warrior, tidied up some blue on the Warrior and a bit of Wraithbone ready for some contrast.

Applied another layer of black to the weapon casing on the Plasma for the Dread.

Layered some Rakarth Flesh on the Möderin.

I would have loved to highlight the dread further as I really want to try and finished it but the light is too bad, too bad for photos too. Maybe tomorrow....

Really struggling with the skirt on the Möderin. The previous effect didn't really show up in the light so this time I applied some Rhinox Hide, dappled a little Corax White and used a was of Basilicanum Grey.

I think the red in the brown of the Rhinox Hide takes away from the red glaze in the leather on the legs and bodice.

The artwork (on previous pages) has the skirt as white / grey rags. Wondering whether to repaint white and then darken it down with greys, maybe a little red.

She needs some eye lenses and then maybe I can glue the head on. The boots need some metallic details too, then maybe I can ponder the skirt again.

Boltgun Jr and I went to our local FLGS today, hired a table and played his trading card game. As we were there, I asked him what he'd like to expand his Space Marine force with and he picked up a box of Hellblasters. Nice choice.

I picked up a Gamers Grass Marshland tuft set for the impending fall to Chaos. Unfortunately, they didn't have any of the texture paste I wanted.

I have been struggling with plasma glow for the Dread. I have tried twice now but my white white ink application just looks messy so I've gone over it with contrast.

I've started the green basecoat on one of the Inceptors. I'll keep chipping away at this combat patrol!

A bit more work to do, I think, but they have been a bit of fun!

The duplication in some of the newer kits (at least back in the day they had technical reasons) is maddening, good job spicing them up makes all the difference.

Step three of plasma repaint

I don't appear to have the Sotek Green I wanted for the bodies of the flies in my paint selection (I have way too many paints, how has that not happened?) so a trip to a local hobby store will be happening next Monday.

Moar words

Great progress! I like the plagued witch and seeing how the plasma coil evolved along the heretic was interesting. While definitely too late for the party, I must say I quite liked the initial plasma effect. I'd call it 'oldschool.' I'm curious where the new project will take you.

Thanks @Brother Christopher, I had a few days recently where I could dip in to hobby for short bursts before and after work (and a bit over lunch). Not enough time to sit and concentrate on the next set of edge highlights for the Dread so I thought I'd try and have as much fun as possible.

The Plaguecaster is a test model and will be part of a Kill Team as I have all the models from the blind boxes that are now in the KT starter box.  I'm going to have a play with them and try to get some ideas for how I'd like a larger 40k force to look.

I'm really happy with the yellow smoke, for example. The blue/grey GW uses makes for a more ethereal look whereas I wanted something bolder and more toxic.

The greens on the armour are perhaps more muted than they could have been.

I used ProAcryl Yellow Green as the main armour colour with a wash of Grimdark Shadow which did what it should.

I am going to try a model with the Bright Yellow Green to see if I can get closer to my old '90s aesthetic.

I wasn't too unhappy with the how the plasma came out the first time, just more frustrated that I couldn't get that modern 'glow' effect. It is fun trying these techniques, we'll see whether I can pull it off this time!

Not sure you can tell from the photos but it works in person for the plasma. Sotek Green applied.

Also added Vallejo FX Black Mud to the Nurgle base, just a little as these bases already have detail and texture. Hoping to really go to town when I turn filthy.
