Casual Heresy
Hi I’m Casual Heresy, and I’m a hobby butterfly. And that’s okay. Afternoon all. A combination of the forum upgrades and downtime from catching Nurgle’s blessing (covid) for the first time means I’m finally going to start the WiP log I’ve always meant to start. I love space marines of all types so always have multiple projects on the go. Currently, I’m focussing on Black Templar reinforcements for the August Throne of Skulls at Warhammer Workd with heresy era ultramarines in the background. But various other armies and one off projects will pop up over time. Currently I’m about to finish the first of two Redemptors for my Templars, and a Contemptor I finished yesterday is waiting on tufts. After that there is only Grimaldus and his boy band, a Primaris Techmarine and Castellan to go. Urauloth
That's a really nice Contemptor. Heresy-era Ultras, you say? Looking forward to seeing those. Casual Heresy
Thank you both! Progress has been slower due to the covid really hitting but felt better today so progress has been made. Brother Sidonis the Redemptor is done. Just need to glue his shoulder pads on and finish the base. I tried the plasma glow from citadel masterclass. I’m not entirely happy with my work but happy with the effect. Also managed the basecoat and shade the armour on my first wave of Heresy era Ultramarines. Twenty tactical marines a chaplain and converted champion (who will also serve as a chapter champion for 40K). The blue so far is just the new formula drakenhof nightshade over macragge blue spray. Next will be a dry brush of macragge blue to lighten the blue back up but keep all the lovely shading. Casual Heresy
The dust has settled after Throne of Skulls so I’m back to painting at a more leisurely pace. On the painting desk currently is my first heresy era tactical squad. As of this morning I’m finished the second highlight of fenerisian grey on half the squads armour. Hoping to completely finish the armour and move onto metallics tonight. calgar101 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/375267-the-great-perpetual-work/#findComment-5861837 Share on other sites
Casual Heresy
Real life got in the way of hobby as it tends to but I was able to sit down and kitbash my unit of Praetorian Breachers I’ve been planning for a while. Love it when a conversion idea comes out exactly as I imagined. I’ve signed up for a zone mortalis campaign at my local warhammer shop so Ultramarines will dominate my desk for a bit. After that I think it’s time for something a little heretical…. sockwithaticket
The Mk VI plastics lend more bulk to those breachers than others I've seen using other armour marks. Pearson73
Those breachers look brilliant, nice mix of poses and parts in there. I agree with @sockwithaticket re the size too. Casual Heresy
Thank you for the kind words @Pearson73. Yeah as @sockwithaticket points out they look nice and hefty. As much as I love other marine kits, the mkvi models are superior in my eyes. Not much to update today. Managed to build most of a tactical squad during my lunch break at work, but forgot my superglue so will have to wait until I’m home to glue their Praetorian helmets on. The squad is meant as a homage to this piece of art in Visions of Heresy. Sergeant still needs an appropriate topknot, as well as an empty holster, bolt pistol and power sword. Next up for building are 5 cataphractii terminators and 5 kitbashed Fulmentarus. Pearson73
That sergeant is going to look great. Always nice to see where folk get their inspiration and how well they match it. Casual Heresy
Well that didn’t go according to plan… 2022 devolved into not a great year Mental Health wise capped by a very bad end. I struggle to paint when I’m stressed so haven’t finished a model in months. But, I find it very relaxing to build models so the forge has been busy over the past few months. Ultramarines My Ultramarines have had reinforcements built for Heresy and the start of a refresh for 40k I was very excited to get the Kratos as I was given for less than half price from a friend who decided it was too filthy to field in his Dark Angels Legion. The all Volkite load out is very fun in both 30k and 40k. And I did finish that sergeant based on the artwork after I found a suitable topknot. Grey Knights I’ve wanted to do a new version of my old 5th Ed Grey Knights army (the first force I ever fully painted) for a while now so made a start. The Interceptor squads have been built with Vanguard Veteran and Deathwatch Veteran legs for a better sense of movement. I decided to use spare parts from my buy box to build a strike squad from the new MKVI kit so the are a bit better proportioned next to Terminators and modern marine kits. Also used a spare plastic Librarian from the pile of potential to make an apothecary Astra Militarum I caved and got Cadia Stands and will be painting them up as Ultramar Auxillia for a Crusade campaign and to use as militia if/when GW releases the list for Heresy. Wouldn’t be an army if mine without a kitbash so made a custom Castellan from Cursed City’s Imelda Braskov. Black Templars Finally my Templars are receiving reinforcements as I’m taking them to April’s Throne of Skulls Doubles at Warhammer World with my best friends Guard. Decided to add things I anted rather than necessarily competitive options so Gladiator Valiant with extra multi-melta, assault intercessors and another chainsword and power fist crusader squad (led by Klaust from Big Brothers) have joined the Crusade. For painting, Templars are a priority so I’m not rushing at the last minute, with Auxilia and Ultramarines as for variety. I haven’t settled on how I’m going to base the Grey Knights so will leave doing a test of the new scheme until I’ve settled on that. Firedrake Cordova
Sorry to hear of your travails, @Casual Heresy. Urauloth
Those Mk VI Grey Knights look nice, that's a good way to update a classic kit. Casual Heresy
Thank you both you both for the kind words. @Urauloth it was actually a surprise how easy it was to kitbash the the two kits together. Hardest part was shaving down the psychic hoods to fit on the MKVI collar. Fiddly but worth it in the end. Today I finished a 2nd Kratos for the 30k/40k Ultramarines. This is a purely anti-tank one with lascannons, melta-blast cannon and a top mounted multi-melta. Didn’t fancy having a the small melta with a gunner for some reason and couldn’t shake the image of another small turret on top. It was easy enough to shave down the trigger mount in the gun and glue it to the havoc launcher base with a targeter from the hellblaster kit to finish it off. calgar101, Grotsmasha, Firedrake Cordova and 2 others 4 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/375267-the-great-perpetual-work/#findComment-5906618 Share on other sites
Naryn
That Kratos is glorious! Love the multi-melta mini turret. Casual Heresy 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/375267-the-great-perpetual-work/#findComment-5906785 Share on other sites
Casual Heresy
Thank you @Naryn! Think the Kratos is swiftly becoming my favourite tank. Surprised myself by being in the mood to paint today so did the test model for my Ultramar Auxilia. My apologies for the bad pics. The idea is to strike a balance between speed with heavy use of contrast and a scheme I’m happy with that can be fancied up with highlights for the characters. Casual Heresy
The return of sunlight and “warmth” to Scotland means I’ve been able to actually basecoat things! So all the new recruits for the Templars and the first wave of Ultramar Auxilia are ready for paint. A new Munitorum Manual means a tweak of the existing army lists. They Grey Knightd list I’m working on dropped down considerably. I could have added another dreadknight easily, but I instead wanted to make use of Crowe as he’s my favourite character from my first version of the army back in 5th. With some points left I decided to add in a Paladin Ancient as well. But like the Apothecary, standard issue wasn’t an option so a quick dive into the pile of potential and we have a suitably cool looking flag waver. Casual Heresy
Last night I had my first game of the year, which was also my first game against Votaan and my first game with a non-power armoured army this edition. A loss but very fun and the guard performed admirably. Just before leaving for the game night I also finished kitbashung a regimental preacher for the guard from one of the Necromunda military attachés. Casual Heresy
It’s been another while since I updated. Haven’t had much chance to hobby lately apart from finishing off the Templars needed for the Throne of Skulls doubles at the start of this month. Technically they aren’t finished to my standards as I can out of time but all were painted to a mid level and basing so they were tournament legal and I can go back and finish them later. I’m heading into a period where I can do more hobby so I’ve joined a combat patrol challenge at my local Warhammer shop. With the Lion inbound he needed some pals to keep him company so I’m going with Dark Angels. Below is the kitbash for the Primaris Chaplain which I’m quite happy with. Just the base model with the pointy arm and a shoulder pad from the Primaris DA sprue, a studded shoulder pad from the Intercessors kit, a hooded head from the Deathwing Terminators and the new crozius top is from the Ravenwing sprue. Also got to try out my new flagstone rolling pin I picked up from element games. Plan is to paint the flagstones as pale stone, they build texture paint around and partially over them, then paint to look like an ancient church almost entirely buried under earth, moss and grass. Casual Heresy
Thank you ZeroWolf. It helps that the base model is actually pretty good apart from the head and pimp cane Crozius. ZeroWolf
Yeah, the Crozius was the main reason I avoided that version. I've got the Indomitus version for my main Chaplain. Casual Heresy
Like most people I was betrayed by the tech and didn’t get any of the preorders I wanted yesterday. I was really enthusiastic for the Lion’s release so to try and keep the enthusiasm alive until he’s released separately I decided to start the Lion Guard kitbash I had been planning. The pile of potential has donated the bladeguard previously earmarked for my Libators and all it has taken is a quick dive into the dark angels section of the bitzbox to bring out something I’m happy with. Firedrake Cordova
That's a very nice conversion. Casual Heresy
Behold the infrequent updating of my WiP thread! Its been a busy May and April but looking like a more peaceful July so I'll hopefully get a few more updates in. In September I'm going down to Warhammer World for the Throne of Skulls: Leviathan tournament. Having taken my Black Templars to three events down south in the past year and a half I decided to work on an Ultramarines list for this time. Below is the model I finished building today: a Land Raider to ferry around a big squad of Bladeguard, my captain and a Lieutenant. A Transport for Veterans and Command should have an appropriate amount of bling.
