Casual Heresy
Hadn’t realised it had been so long since I updated this. I want to try and do so more regularly in the new year. Winter has been a wee bit of a write off for building and painting with only some small bits here and there. But now enjoying the post Christmas lull and some time to do what I want. I’m at my parents just now but brought some stuff with me. Today’s offering is an ‘Iron Captain’ for an Iron Hands project I’m starting. I need two Techmarines for the list and an easy way to tell them apart due to enhancements. So a dive into the bitzbox for the Primaris Captain body and a wee order from BitzBox and we’re good to go. Love it when a kitbash goes off without a hitch. Casual Heresy
New year, new reasons to forget to post! As well as building various units which I'll remember to photograph later, I actually got some paint on models. Below is the start of my first Covenant of Fire unit for @Brother Argent's March for March challenge. They is the start of my learning the secrets of slapchop. I detest the name but it's set to become a useful way to get models painted in quantity. Up next is getting the rest of these models done to nail down the rest of the scheme, then it's on to more infernus marines! Firedrake Cordova
Quite a striking scheme. What colour are the weapons going to be? Casual Heresy
Thank you! Weapon casings will be black to match the official artwork, but goinf metallic black to differentiate from the black armour. I think I'll be trying a heat bloom effect on the pyreblaster barrels as well. Firedrake Cordova
Ah, I didn't realise they were an official chapter! Having the bolters as a metallic black/gunmetal to contrast with the arms sounds like a good idea. Scorch marks on flame weapons is a classic for a reason Casual Heresy 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/375267-the-great-perpetual-work/page/2/#findComment-6026826 Share on other sites

Casual Heresy
Once more time slips away. I was away on holiday for a decent chunk of April and work has been busy since so hobby work has been slow. I did however find time to start a new army… So the new lore in the Custodes may have ruffled a few feather, but it also inspired me and I’ve actually done something with the models I already had in the pile of potential (with the addition of the new battle force). I wanted to theme a force around one of the named female Custodians so have settled on Shield Captain Bayezara and her host of jet bikers. Other units will be the classic red and gold but with a handful of other shield hosts thrown in for variety; Aquilan Shield for the Wardens and Shadow Keepers for the terminators. So far everything is built and getting on basecoats when the weather and work allow. The Wardens are currently the closest to done with just the leather, power blades, bases and a handful of wee details to go. calgar101, WAR and Firedrake Cordova 1 2 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/375267-the-great-perpetual-work/page/2/#findComment-6043225 Share on other sites
Firedrake Cordova
I like the gold tone on the Custodes Casual Heresy 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/375267-the-great-perpetual-work/page/2/#findComment-6043237 Share on other sites
Casual Heresy
Thanks @Firedrake Cordova. The gold is dead easy to do. 2 thin coats of retributor armour over grey seer basecoat. Wash all over with reikland fleshshade. Dry brush retributor armour, leaving plenty of the shade in recesses and lower surfaces. Drybrush canoptek alloy, focusing on the raised areas and upper surfaces. Light drybrush of stormhost silver, focussing on the edges and highest points. I've started using artify drybrushes and I swear by them, don't think I'll be going back to GW's flat drybrushes on anything except tanks and terrain. The Praetorian of Inwit
Some nice work on the Custodes. The gold is effective. Can I ask how you did the basing that looks like white sand? It's very eye catching. calgar101, Firedrake Cordova and Casual Heresy 2 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/375267-the-great-perpetual-work/page/2/#findComment-6043507 Share on other sites
Casual Heresy
Thank you @calgar101! The Ultras are due a bit of work soon so watch this space. Thanks @The Praetorian of Inwit. The bases aren’t actually finished yet, the final base plan is going to be grey wasteland with patches of snow. Currently their just grey seer of the base material. I use Vallejo diorama texture paint now for basing. This is the standard white version with grey seer spray over the top. But you’re right it does look like white sand so worth exploring further as basing scheme. Dr_Ruminahui
Your gold recipe is gorgeous. I was somewhat disappointed when I clicked on the thread though - given your user name, I was expecting rather more heresy (of the ruinous powers, rather than era, variety). Casual Heresy
Thank you @Dr_Ruminahui Like all good Heresy, mine is waiting in the shadows, manipulating events from afar until it is time to reveal itself and cause havoc!
