I find it just a baffling release. They aren't some cool new unit specifically for him. They aren't new models. There isn't an upgrade sprue. They aren't even Dark Angels themed specifically.  Just the same normal Bladeguard models without anything to differentiate them or make them exciting.

I expected something like the Ultramarines Victrix Guard. This just feels boring and lazy.

While I can sympathised with people who want more Dark Angel like models, I'm fine with this. I plan on getting the Lion at some point as a painting project, and I like the Blade guard so this works for me. I can either keep them in Deathwing colours or just shuffle them off to my Ultramarines.

Now, when do you think this should have been revealed?

Chances are if DA are supposed to receive the BT treatment it will be with the next installment of the DA supplement. So no chance they put one of the kits way ahead of schedule, even if their primarch is incoming.

That's what I'm thinking.  Robes are THE DA aesthetic.  Something tells me GW didn't have the actual models ready, so boxed BGV with the Lion until 10th

I Don't have Blade Guard & I Don't have the Lion (of course ) I can live with this,

Although GW does seem to do the Special Character + "Lets move some Back stock" models...

++EDIT++ I would be very tempted to do his Guard in his Colours though, they'd look good in Black/Green armour

M.

These aren’t backstock. They’re one of the more popular Primaris units. They’re actually out of stock right now. Presumably because they just ripped their entire stock off shelves to repackage in this box with the Lion.

Did you miss the Black Templars update?

One offs don’t make a pattern.

the pattern GW has created, hounds of morokai, standard phobos kit with SW upgrade sprue.

primaris DC, intercessors or assault intercessors with a BA upgrade sprue.

now this apparent lion’s guard, BGV, with a DA upgrade sprue.

Also the rest of the chapters are getting those same flamers the BT got, and supposedly we’re getting scouts, so the BT neophytes won’t be very unique and will fit the rest of the pattern.

Sword Bros are hardly a one off when GW legends'd Honor Guard and redesigned the entire unit for Ultramarines specifically.

hounds of morokai were the exception, not the rule.

Also, Sword Bros weren't the only Unit we got for Black Templars.  We also got a Castellan, a Marshall, Primaris Crusader Squads (who also were the first to get the Pyroblaster), an upgrade kit, and we're the only army that can put Multi-Meltas on Primaris tanks.  That's how you do a refresh..this is pure laziness

Hounds, death company, and as I said now there’s the lion’s guard.

At this point in wouldnt be surprised if sword brethren were a sneak peak at options available to assault intercessors or some new veteran assault intercessors that get revealed during 10th.

These are also not a 'new' unit with a different paintjob, this is the standard paintjob for Bladeguard Veterans for Dark Angels, so it likely doesn't have a separate datasheet.

Apparently I have a dozen Lion's Guard sitting on my shelf already. Thought I ordered Bladeguard Veterans. Must be one of those Primaris Dante situations!

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Valrak say the Lionsguard would be completely new models?

If not the above doesn't surprise me in the slightest that the "Lionsguard" got the Hounds of Morkai treatment, I strongly suspected that would be the case well before the box got shown today. That being said though, I see the box is listed as only having 4 miniatures.. so the Lion and 3 Bladeguard, with the Arks of Omen: The Lion book included?

On the other hand, I entertain the idea this might be an early boxset preview with the actual Lionsguard models not being released.  In either case I'm not opposed to having another 3m squad of Bladeguard in my collection. Thematically, canonically and practically I am satisfied with this outcome, but I do lament the missed opportunity for specialist "victrix guard" models.

These are different, in that they're not in a different paint scheme. So they're just Bladeguard Veterans, the Lion's Guard is almost certainly just the name of the box. They're just BGV painted in the Dark Angels paint scheme.

Death Company have always been a basic unit, I wouldn't count them in there unless GW keeps them for the BA refresh instead of moving them over to the new assault unit.  You also missed where I mentioned it wasn't 1 unit for BT, but at least 5.  I would imagine DA get as many since they have several special units

Oh man, that’s even worse!

Yeah all Bladeguard Veterans are Deathwing, so there's nothing of note. It'd be like if Dante came with red BGV with gold helms, they'd just be standard BA dudes.

That said, it's quite likely DA will be getting a large range refresh a few months down the line.

That's my thinking.  It's probably just a box for the Lion and Amy other units will release in 10th.  Like how Death Guard and TSons were

I'd expect there's a Dark Angels army set coming in 10E. They're ready to milk us like a cow on a dairy farm.

BT set a high expectation standard for all the future loyalist updates.

However, since DA had too many kits need to be upgraded, even they luckily received "BT level" updates, the updates may split into multiple batches, among many years.
