New Hachette Magazine Combat Patrol

Recommended Posts

They did mix it up a bit, but in general in Imperium (initial 80 issues), the ad mech stuff was clustered together, then sisters while alternating with marines and necrons as the main two. This run will be a bit different regardless as there isn't two "main" factions, and the focus (presumably) is working towards collecting and playing with combat patrols.

They made a point of saying by Issue 20, you will have at least one full Combat Patrol.

They've stated there's 9 Combat Patrols and it's a 90 Issue run, from that you can infer that they will be running at least two at the same time, possibly more.

I would pretty much expect something like one complete combat patrol every 10 issues after 20.

Something like 20 issues per combat patrol with a new one starting every 10 overlapping with the previous one. And with two at the start.

So for example at 20 CP3 will start, at 30 CP4 will start, at 40 CP3 will be finished and CP5 will start.

Of course not exactly like that but some variation of that overlapping principle will likely be how they do it. This way you won't have to wait months to finish your CP while still being able to alternate between different ones. And the models that are coming in addition to the CP contents can be sprinkled in later so you don't cancel just because your CP is finished now.

If you look at the current Stormbringer partworks, you can clearly see that they group the factions in clumps (#1-18 already deleted from my list, sorry).

These partly tie in with the premium extras too. So, Sylvaneth between #35-#49, Kharadron Overlords between #52-#63, Orruk Warclans and Stormcast Eternals in first ~20 issues and then second phase in #67-#80. Gloomspite Gitz have the most kits so they are more spread out than the rest.

[Not all issues out yet, but the leaked content list has been completely accurate for over 50 issues already]

Like others have said, I'd expect the Combat Patrols will be released in batches (of 2,3,4) over the course of the #90 issues, so you most likely won't have one Combat Patrol split in ~ #1-10 and also still awaiting kits in the #80s. The only caveat is they tend to end with a bang, so they may keep (some of) the biggest kits for the finale.

How has the quality of the imperium magazines have been?

Conquest was pretty nice to use for people as an introduction to the lore & game.

I don’t really need the tools or paints, so the 21% is quite bad compared to direct access through 3rd party and not tied to a subscription.

21% cheaper than GW... so similar overall to buying from an 3rd party reseller.
Takes the shine of a bit from collecting as much from this. I expect the paints are the part that has got worse on the savings the most though.
Still good for gap filling possibly missing units or generally adding more squads but I'd be more tempted to just buy a given combat patrol than fiddle around trying to get each issue or actually subscribing.

If you can snipe the individual issues then I'm already thinking I can get 2 x 10 Boyz for £8.99 each but if not then I don't think it's worth the headache - I wrote a short blog post about how you don't actually save that much when you have the whole set unless you're planning to paint and play every single model

The main problem for new players I think is the release model - by the time the magazine run is complete, the edition is more than half over.

Doing some quick back of the envelope counting, I estimated that the GSC combat patrol would be about 10 issues worth, if they split double sprue kits into 2 issues as they do now. If they're all about the same, it leaves little room for paint etc, with 9 patrols, and 10 issues each.

I do appreciate that some patrols will have fewer models and thus be fewer issues, however they might also stick like a full neophyte squad into one issue to make plenty of room for filler paints.

I see 31 paints in the picture, and they're usually 2 per issue so that's ~15 issues with paint leaving 75 issues for models.

It's actually a little worse than that as it's following the same pattern as Imperium which means that by the end (May 2026) 11th edition will be dropping a month later.

Plus there's always a chance that the current combat patrol boxes on shelves may actually change with codex releases as is rumoured with the Dark Angels and Tau ones changing. Which makes me wonder if the ones in the magazine will or not...Guess we'll find out when Orks hit.

Started getting ads on Instagram for the subscription, and the official site is up now. If the first issue stays the same from the trial then £2.99 for the terminator captain, winged prime, a battle mat and 6 dice is nice start.

All this was in the original Fauxhammer article posted at the beginning of the year, not that I blame anybody for not seeing it because the site continues to be a mess of adverts that makes quickly finding the info you want extremely difficult.

For release date, it's August. This isn't stated anywhere but is a long-standing pattern from Hachette where collections that get trialled in January get their full release in August.

Additionally, AUS follows in Jan/Feb the next year

Can’t find the magazine in the shops but the first few issues are already up on eBay for £22.50 plus shipping :furious:

People are chancers aren't they. There will be thousands of these things in every newsagent, supermarket, Forbidden Planet and WHSmith in the land come August but some scrote hoping somebody with more money than sense will stump up over £20 for a copy to have it early. Absolute madness.

Anyway, the fact that you can't find them in the shops is probably just as much to do with it being a localised trial and the chance of any one of us living in the selected area being quite slim. I've still yet to see any indication of where the trial is taking place.

Thanks for pointing out the questionnaire, bit weird having to answer the first few questions as "haven't bought it yet"

Doubt I'll win though.

As a bonus (though I've only just realised) this will give people who've somehow not picked up the Primaris Champion (like me, because I'm an idiot) another opportunity. It'll mean scalper prices, but still cheaper than a sub!

They didn’t even have it in Warhammer World yesterday so goodness knows.

They never put test runs in warhammer shops, plus I assumed the test runs were over since they started back in Feb and normally do 5-6 weeks. Unless they had to do another test run like Stormbringer

Test run is apparently in the wild now. No idea where though just saw a post on one of the subreddits I was browsing and the poster never said where.

Tried the usual websites and no sign of it so I assume it must be fairly localised.

The test run has been and gone, hasn’t it? I’m sure people who subbed to the 4 magazines for the test have had them all and subsequent emails thanking them and asking for feedback.

We’re now in waiting on the full release.
