A lot of people having the same thought, and I get it, you're not incorrect. However, as I noted, the previous solution was worse. All marine armies would take a hit if a unit was too strong in a detachment, now it's only a sub faction.

And the "too strong in a detachment" is fixed by, you guessed it, the DP system to keep it in check.

Support is a blanket term in that a support character must attach to a bodyguard unit, but can dual attach with any leader that can legally attach to that bodyguard unit.  So, they aren't limited to just the co-attachments listed on their datasheet.  Note, even if you don't have the app, you can see here which character units are now support - I haven't given it a good look, they seem to mostly just be characters that previously had dual attachment options.

 

Additional detachments given you more enhancement options but do not increase the maximum number of enhancements you can take - your total is not per detachment, but per army.  Note, the chart (reposted here) put on Warcom as part of their pre-11th promotions indicates that you can now have 4 enhancements for a 2000 point army, not the limit of 3 we have in 10th... that said, I haven't seen any rules that codify that yet, so it could turn out to be marketing nonsense.  Also, some enhancements (for now just in some of the new 1DP detachments) can now be attached to units (not just characters), and you can have up to 3 of those for one enhancement "slot" it sounds like.  Finally, you can only have 1 enhancement per unit - so, while conceivably you could have a unit with an enhancement + 2 characters, each with an enhancement, that is prohibited - you can only have 1.

The enhancement limits are specified in the Select Battle Size section in the app (25.03), 2 for 1000pt games, 4 for 2000pts as seen on warcom. Enhancement selection is clarified in 25.04.

Yeah the app is very good for rules referencing, even if you don't use the list builder.

 

List builder is pretty ok. I wish the attaching leaders stuff worked a little better.

Next you'll be telling me that GW aren't complete amateurs/messing things up on purpose or some similar madness.


Aaaanyway, having all the points on the website is nice. I know they were available before, but this firmat is going to make it much easier to follow updates and adjustments, even for someone like me, who doesn't use the app.

It gets harder the more layers there are.

 

Think of it like this - it is easy to balance two blocks hanging off of one pulley. It is a lot harder to balance twelve blocks hanging off an interconnected system of eleven pulleys in the back of a truck traveling over the speed limit on the highway at rush hour.

The Invader actually came out in 9th, but the preview was ahead of the release day and just a couple days after pre-orders for Indomitus went live.

 

EDIT: But as to 10th, I don't think there was a similar sneak peak for Marines/Tyranids until we actually got the reveal show for each faction later on, with Nids going first due to their win in the interactive event.

There were also a lot of either end of 10th or release weekend tournaments this past weekend. I've been too busy playing the past 3 days to post anything and I imagine that's the case with a lot of others too.

I have a hard time figuring out how big a deal the missing rules actually are. As it is, I am on the verge of writing a "sad complaint" to GW customer service, but I am not sure if this is overly dramatic? As it is, I am afraid that I am essentially locked out of 11th edition until a downloadable copy of the missing rules is available, or is this overstating the situation somewhat?

I know I can just "make up something" or buy a smartphone, so please refrain from replying that  I am not trying to be dramatic here, I'm just trying to ascertain how big an issue this is if I want to play with someone else who also does not have or want the app and who likes to play by the actual rules.

I think it is pretty valid complaint that the rules are not in the rulebook or even in an errata PDF.

I said what I had to say. The actual release didn’t add information I thought worth commenting on. Hobby wise, I’m in a holding pattern until I move. Also some of my plans depend on if there is new options for Outrider sergeants.

I'd absolutely complain. Starter boxes have always come with all the rules you need to start playing the game (hence the name) so for them to leave them out is pretty weak.

What rules are missing from the book? We played over the weekend using the box book and didnt really have any issues not finding rules. Biggest issue was turning off prior editions and not assuming something was the same. Pretty typical for me for a new edition. I did love how the game played differently for each of us.

To play devil's advocate, Armageddon wasn't a starter set (and it did come with the full rule book). We've yet to see the proper always in production starter sets to judge how GW will handle the rules for them.

That is true; I do think given the pricetag of the thing they could include a bit of extra material (remember Battle for Macragge's little pamphlet?) but point taken.

 

I will say, I do miss the days when the launch box was also the starter set and remained in production for the whole edition. I know we get the smaller starter sets now but it seems a little cheeky to have this enormous premium boxset and not have the stuff in it you need to actually play it. It's not a dealbreaker but it is worth being at least mildly annoyed about.

 

In better news my copy should be arriving tomorrow! Can't wait, honestly; I've been printing a bunch of heads and backpacks in preparation. Need to print some bolters next.

It's mostly detail stuff; things I think of as "may need to check occasionally" for an official ruling.

Haven't been keeping up, 62 pages us a bit steep to go through.

Armageddon sold out from my discount stores and I'm not paying full price at GW.

So, Is the separate, small Core Rule book a complete ruleset, or does it have the Armageddon issues?

I think the separate rule book is identical to the Armageddon rule book with an ultramarine on the cover, so it is missing the additional rules.

 

One thing that might never have happened, but isn't there, is like a brief walkthrough guide to playing the game with the models included in the box? You know, mission one is just intercessors vs boyz to move, shoot, charge, fight, battleshock, then mission 2 gives you a leader, and mission 3 gives you the vehicle thing.  I may very well be conflating this with other editions or boxed sets or something though.
