I'm not surprised the Firstborn are being dumped, if it wasn't for brand recognition I think the term space marine would have been dropped in favour of Primaris at launch and they would be reconned to always have been Primaris.

But this is the reason I think that veteran players should seriously look at playing other editions and not just going with the official current edition treadmill nonsense.

They are your miniatures and how you play with them is up to you otherwise you will be eternally caught in the cycle of get excited for new product, buy new product, put new product in the pile of shame and then get excited about the next new product which will get legended in favour of even newer new product.

No one should be shocked by this by now.

Gabriel Seth and Corbulo.

Aren't these guys in Legends now? They might be due for an update, or they might be retired from the range.

There are some old heroes that are gone from the range such as Cassius and Chronos as well.

Could have sworn I'd heard rumours of a new Gabriel Seth model but that may have been wishlisting vs actual rumours.

Ezekiel and Sammael have yet to cross over. Expecting Sammael once they figure out what they will do with Outriders.

They seem to be taking the opposite approach now and largely relegating the primaris appellation to the background, and moving branding back to just Space Marines.

Will anyone miss some of the silly units:ermm:

Centurions and atv were just really really out of place/badly designed etc etc

Its a shame they will exist some way in legends

Centurions just needed to be upright, not squatted like that Custodes shield captain fellow

If it weren’t for the legal issues, I’d love a community-driven site with core and unit rules for 2nd to 6th edition where people could add comments about their tweaks and home rules; and post retro-rules for new armies and units that came out later.

Never got the OK to post about it here, but this exists. People have been working on this for years, and it covers multiple different editions etc. If anyone wants the link, just message me.

The "community" is for the most part worse than the actual GW staff at writing. This says a lot because GW staff is absolutely bad at rules writing themselves.

Ok, but Legends do exist. And because they exist, I want them to be handled to the same standard as they are in AoS.

Why would they be handled to the same standard?

That's part of the problem. Instead of wanting the problem to go away, you want the problem to be adjusted outside what corp wants. AoS is on a whole different level of rules writing, but it's likely that it would be better off without Legends as well.

Interesting, could you provide examples? I’m quite curious about this. I think I may have over estimated house rule quality because my group’s house rules were made by professionals and playtesters.

So you think it's better if all the retired models are just removed from the game with no way to play them at all?

I think it's important to note that even if the Rhino is going to Legends for the core Marine codex the other factions will likely continue to use it. The current kit is the basis for all Chaos and Sisters Rhino chassis and can't be retired wholesale off the bat. Still a loss for Marines but the kit itself will endure for at least a while longer.

I understand the need GW likely has internally to cut down on data sheets and low-performing kits but it's always going to be sad losing full support for models you like. I'm a big fan of both Suppressors and Firestrike turrets (with conversions being worked on for both) and while I'm not likely to play any tournaments soon it may still influence the attitudes of people I may have games with. I'm still going to carry on because I love the concepts behind the units and will have fun converting them, but I do feel for the people in more competitive environments who are impacted by this.

Sisters have their own bespoke rhino chassis these days, it's only chaos and they could arguably do the smart thing and sell them 30k kits if they want to phase out the Rhino fully.

Doing so does upset agents, custodes and grey knights though as well bear in mind.

In a standard New Edition box like we're getting, you're traditionally getting the Big Rule Book (often shortened to BRB) of all the editions foundational rules, as well as a deck of cards for the missions available at the outset.  There's also another deck of cards we don't know anything about.

Going by the six new Intercessors along the top of the picture, it looks like there will actually be different poses rather than two iterations of a the same five-man squad as happened with both Indomitus and Leviathan.

That being the case, we can probably guess the contents of the single large frame that will replace the Honoured of the Chapter product:

  • Librarian
  • Ancient
  • Five-man Intercessor squad
  • (possibly) Bolt Eradicators

The Honoured of the Chapter frame built nine models (three characters and two three-man squads), but the Leviathan kit only built seven, comparable with what I can see here (assuming the Bolt guys are separate). Would totally be in keeping with GW's ongoing mission to give their customers less product for more money.

For the rest, the remaining five-man Intercessor frame will most likely be the one appearing in all of the various starter kits. The new Captain will be sprinkled in with those as well.

The ETB VanVets will probably be part of the 11th Edition Combat Patrol, along with the Bolt Eradicators (if not, then the Intercessor squad would show up here also and the Bolt guys may indeed be squeezed onto the large frame).

The Captain and Jump Chaplain will be part of that Combat Patrol as well.

In addition, the Jump Chaplain should see a solo release as with the ETB Terminator Librarian.

The Speeder will have its own kit similar to the ETB Ballistus Dread.

Unless I'm mistaken, we haven't seen a decent shot of the Ancient yet. I wonder if he'll be a Bladeguard Ancient to match the Captain and allow the BA datasheet to remain in the codex? That would only leave the Judiciar without a model (again assuming the Honoured of the Chapter product is replaced), though with so many of the standard character models being covered it would make sense to see a standalone replacement drop in the codex wave.

Leaving models in rules limbo is just as bad as removing them. At least removing the rules leaves no open interpretation to the master plan, whereas most of us understand the writing on the wall since Legends existed.

How soon after the drop of the box will the Ork codex be released do you think?

Feels like it's usually about two months? End of July to start of September kind of thing (which is either side of the UK school summer holidays).

But sounds like this might be releasing a little earlier, in June, so end of July might be possible.

It would give just about enough time between the pre-orders for Armageddon to then have the starter sets released and hyped online, them do a preview show for vets, then hype the new books online again before release ahead of kids breaking up for summer.

But two week preorder, lull/other systems, starter sets, other systems again, then Orks and Marines release wave 1. Summer hols, release wave 2.

Would be my guess.

Then Tau in October, Dark Eldar November.

No they don't. The Sisters Rhino is still the basic one, just with a really good upgrade sprue. Check the sprue pics on the GW site.
