t's always a bit difficult to say for certain, but I'm pretty sure it's not just force of habit that makes me go very firmly "no" to the turret look for the LR. I mean taste is obviously very subjective, but part of the appeal of the LR is that it doesn't look exactly like all the other tanks, while sharing the same design language.

Out of curiosity would that still be "no" if it was Razorback or Tarantula style turret rather then tank turret?

And the sponsons need to be at the back.

The really dangerous stuff is inside, delivery is key. The guns can still reach out and touch things once the heavy infantry are a  smashing.

I actually prefer sponsons on the front on Land Raiders. I always found the doors opening directly in front of the sponson guns seemed a bit...risky. Plus the frontal assault ramp seems like the preferred exit point for assault troops, the side doors being more like secondary/emergency options.

Re: the turret, I kinda like it, but I do agree it is a little strange having a conventional MBT style turret. My current ADHD-driven project, the Land Raider Consecrator (a rare variant pattern that eschews any transport capacity to shift the vehicle into a full-on heavy tank) has a battle cannon turret, albeit mounted on a limited-traverse casemate housing rather than a full turret. The actual part in question being leftover Malcador superstructure.

(I still need to print the other tracks and do some major gap filling and tidy-up work, as well as adding stowage and other details. Also the top plate isn't actually glued on in this photo, hence the track guards at the front not sitting flush.)

The parallelogram look is iconic for the Land Raider. Start adding things on top and it no longer has that look.

I mean that reminds me a hell of a lot of the repulsor executioner, but with tracks.

Now I can't unsee it. Bother.

(Though with the exception of a pintle-mounted storm bolter there will be no more guns on this.)

Hard to say, but yeah, I think so. It depends on what it would do to the overall profile, I guess.

I think this looks pretty cool:

Personally I like the idea of a small turret. It’s a massive vehicle and quite underpowered in terms of offensive capabilities- I know it’s a transport - but a predator has the same output. A turret out of the way of the troop bay makes sense to me, visual profile aside, it would be a lot more practical to have the Lascannons on a turret than sponsons so you’re probably never going to cross your cargo with a power armour splitting weapon

Fair enough comment, but obviously your opinion is wrong :wink:

I like your project, looks cool  especially with the sponsons at the rear.

Here are my transport options

Here is one of my non-transport options

I regret building it like that, but went with the GeeDub standard.

Certainly wouldn't be the first time! I am curious though, and this is genuinely me asking- what (in-universe) advantage would the sponsons at the rear confer?

Thanks! I was going to put them up front but it unbalanced the silhouette, and as it's no longer a transport (the hatches being used solely for the crew and maintaining/reloading the vehicle) the "walking in front of a gun" risk is nullified.

I think the turret-less Land Raider is iconic to the setting, and should be preserved.

Having turrets on the Repulsor helps set it apart. I like having the different silhouette, readily discernable from a distance and by newer folks.

See I like the repulsor, I’ve not owned a land raider since selling my heresy and firstborn stuff 6 years ago…

id buy a new land raider that was crisper immediately

A turret on the Land Raider is just too high profile for a main battle tank, even by 40k standards.

I agree. A remote weapon station is a perfect fit for the Land Raider if you really want something on the roof. The Sicaran Venator has a nice RWS that fits any Space Marine tank.

Great question, although it still sits way behind the rules of cool it does need consideration. What was going through Land's mind when he designed it?

To me (at least) the LR was always a 5 man TDA delivery system that also has Godhammers. It's never been an MBT, it's a transport vehicle for TDA.

The Fellblade, Falchion and others do that role. Turrets are an MBT thing while I'm off topic.

They also keep their sponsons to the rear, rule of cool prevails.

Having the two side doors Forward allows quicker egress with 3 CC TDA out the assault ramp, the heavy weapon and the Sgt out the sides providing direct fires and guidance. That leaves them unimpeded by the sponsons and in cohesion with the front three.

The sponsons switch to flank cover while the Lads are working at the front. They are better placed out of the way at that critical time.

The Achilles variant is different and is the breaching weapon, hence tye MM in the forward position (Land, the genius that he is made it an adaptive chassis) but the normal LR is a delivery system.

I still support the rule of cool beats all, so definitely don't (seriously) knock others opinions, even though they're obviously wrong.

To get back to rumors, since we are apperantly getting Rhino refresh, will we Also get Razorback ”refresh”?

One would certainly hope so! It's one of my favorite Rhino variants and I'd hate to see it removed.

Actually, come to think of it, Metallica has perfectly expressed my sentiments on this matter in "Damage Inc."

I don't think the Razorback will survive. I think the Impulsor does the same job, but does it better.

Edit: I realise this might annoy some people. I'm merely talking about the way the unit functions within the rules - it's faster, open topped, more durable and has comparable firepower.

Rules can be changed though.

It would be nice, but at this point, all of my Razorbacks have interchangeable turrets and can be Whirlwinds if needed. if neither Razorbacks or Whirlwinds exist in some form in the future, well, then I have some neat looking tanks.
