Orange Knight
@phandaal I don't appreciate your gaslighting. The conversation is being pulled in this direction by people incessently talking about old units in a topic which is supposed to discuss rumours about the future. In respect of the older units, Valrak did make a statement: "All remaining Firstborn units will be going to legends, with the exception of the Landraider and Rhino" Here's a summary for you: -I mentioned that I prefer the rules of the Impulsor over the Razorback because it was open topped. I say this very clearly. -People start trying to convince me that the Razorback is better at anti tank and thusly has value, and whilst I did agree the Las Cannon is reliable, it's not a very good anti-tank platform overall. -Somehow this moved on to reminiscing about Tactical Combat Squads with a missile launcher coming out of a Razordback (btw this never worked well in the past because you had to snap-fire heavy weapons) -Suddenly someone is waxing lyrical about Devastator squads. Old stuff is better than new stuff. Heard it all before, etc etc etc Let's not play the victim, eh? (It was funny to look at their giant stack of datasheet cards compared to Leagues of Votann.) Since Tau are getting a mini refresh or unit expansion or something along those lines, I expect they will get a little bit of "datasheet shock" too. It really doesn't help either that GW created so many more profiles with shift to Power Level in 10th Edition. Off topic: Reveal hidden contents @Evil Eye @Robbienw @Interrogator Stobz I know you guys know that your attempt to "win" in the argument is exactly what Orange Knight wants, so he can turn this into another Primaris vs Firstborn argument thread for his own reasons. You are never going to get him to acknowledge your points. By all means keep going, but it will for sure get the thread locked. Crimson Longinus
Regarding removed units, it is at least great that the Legends go to the app. Then it is easier to use them and hopefully people will be more accepting to them being played. The Praetorian of Inwit
So new Warbikers and consistent rumours of Outriders getting a proper kit. Evil Eye
New Chaos Bikers would be nice; I'd be interested to see what the new bikes would look like under the current Chaos aesthetic. Maybe a throwback to the HH bike designs? Could even throw some bones to the old RT bike with its skull gearstick! Might actually be my favourite bike design, honestly. Dr_Ruminahui
Time for the orange again. This thread has been largely off topic for the last couple of pages, at least. Please ensure that all future posts are about the actual topic - so, Valrak's rumours - and not some other divergence. Failure to do so may result in the thread being locked. Evil Eye
If the Whirlwind and Vindicator are going I do wonder how they intend to replace them. Both fulfil quite important roles (mobile artillery support and line breaker respectively) and neither vehicle would be suited to a grav-tank. The Vindicator especially, the recoil would send a grav-tank flying backwards! The Vindicator especially, the recoil would send a grav-tank flying backwards! how important are the roles in practice? Would be interested to know how popular the kits are and how commonly they're used? In the 30 years I've played 40k, I've used the whirlwind scorpius in HH a bit, and I think back in 7th ed I did use the vindicator a bit. Neither have ever been common for me so just interested if there's data on them? Orange Knight
I think the Vindicator has been a lot more popular in recent months because the rules are so good in 11th edition. Historically, when I look back over the years it has not been particularly popular. The Scorpius was always a fan favourite, but I think the rules also played a large part in that. irlLordy
Vindicator has been very popular in 10th edition tournament lists for SM and CSM, particularly in vehicle detachments. Whirlwind not so much after indirect fire got nerfed. Robbienw
Realistically you'll never know how popular a kit is in terms of sales unless you could get a hold of GW sales data. You get the odd outlier like the new Defiler selling out but on the whole you are correct. My Vindicator is a regular feature in my Space Wolves list but my Blood Angels manage quite happily without one. I haven't used a Whirlwind since the nerf to indirect fire and not very often before that. However Indirect fire looks to be stronger in 11th edition as it is one way around the new Hidden rule. Apparently indirect units can target enemy units that another friendly unit can see, even if they themselves cannot. This means we might get artillery and spotters which sounds cool, although it remains to be seen if this will be effective in use. Thats true, what about tournament data? People with interest and access to such things could probably get a general feel for how popular either unit has been over the last decade or so I imagine. Tbh i'm really just interested because I imagine either sales or usage data (basically some kind of popularity gauge) will feed into if GW does something with them. I think vindicators are pretty cool, I just never found much use for them personally (probably due to my preference for hitting things in melee as a blood angel lol) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/387821-valrak-2026-release-rumours-video/page/28/#findComment-6172921 Share on other sites
Crimson Longinus
I basically always use my Vindicator with my marines. It is very good, has been MVP in many games. Also, I just love how it looks. The big cannon with the huge gunshield just looks rad. I'll be very sad if the rules go. It is actually one of the two pre-primaris units I have painted for my current chapter, the other being the Stormtalon, which I don't use that often as flyers have been pretty meh for a while. Vindicators are super over tuned at the moment. They really are too good. That's not justification for legends treatment but they could do with a points hike and/ or their dakka toning down. Their over-tuned nature is the main reason I think they really ARE going to Legends. GW would want to clear their stocks. Similar things have happened in the past. Remember the Space Marine Demi Company in 7th edition? They must have sold so many Razorbacks and Tactical Squads before releasing Primaris in the following edition... It's why I always suggest to people to buy the models they like as opposed to the ones that have great rules at any given time...
