Maybe first though, you could each put a quick post here with your basic choices (Homeworld, History, Archetype) and an idea of who your character is? Doesn't have to be a full bio post (we'll sort a separate thread for that), just something to give everyone an idea of which options have been taken and which haven't?

Feudal or Agri Hunter – something like a Woodsman (or more accurately an apprentice to one before being chosen/abducted/whatever we are calling it for Astartefication). Someone proficient in the wilds/outdoors* and can handle themselves verses predators.

Geneseed d10 roll: 1

That's your lot.

Edit: tell a lie, there's one more - Howling Griffons, Night World Livery. If the mission is a stealthy one, you can paint your armour black, and gain +10 on concealment tests. Since you're at -40 to conceal anyway, and the mission must be a stealth mission, this is about as much use as hemlock toothpaste.

Thanks, that helps.

However I found a few more.

I like the look of Marksman Combat Sight from the Raptors Chapter Trappings (HTC page 88) for the utility. It is a Sight that picks two from a set of abilities. Focal Targeter looks great for making a bolter have a little more punch, and doesn’t seem to be restricted to single shots. While Shadow Light seems fitting for a hunter experience in stalking prey.

Wasn't going to bother with a chapter trapping, then decided on this:

Chapter Trapping: The Black Seal (Counts as the Blood Angel Golden Icons - Icon of Focus.

'Purity Focus: Whenever the Battle-Brother gains Corruption Points, reduce the total by 1.'

Reason: The Black Seal is a pendant taken from one of the Black Ship Warders who was escorting Thrace during trials to establish his potential or if he was going to be  Chargrilled Golden Throne Steak. Pirates, aliens, some Solios-dwelling murderers took him and a clutch of psykers on as slaves/cargo/prizes. They became a little too much to handle, so gave them to Talek Varn as tribute/levy/payment for safe passage.

Only Thrace survives from the clutch, implant processes not entirely being stable in the Crag. He doesn't remember much else from before, and is otherwise indifferent to it.

Fair enough!

Honestly, once I realised that the official version of RoS does nothing to change your odds of getting a Perils, I started to think that 400xp was slightly overpriced anyway...?

So what price would you put it at?

Posted (edited)

Lysi has priced RoS at 250xp, and it has a modification, which means you get a re-roll on the Phenomena table, as long as you don't hit Perils. You don't get to pick your result, and have it always at that result.

It's a couple of pages back.

@Trokair I would rate the Marksman Sight as easily the most powerful Chapter Trapping, but I agree it is fitting for the character you're building so I'm good with it.

@Mazer Rackham love it, great bit of backstory!

@Machine God Demeanour you can just choose, whatever you feel is appropriate for your character's personality.

Re changes to RoS, it's honestly not that big a change. Even on the official version, it doesn't alter a Perils result, it just changes any result between 01-74 to the Phenomena you've chosen.

That seemed very boring and not in keeping with the craziness of the Psychic Awakening, so I changed it to giving you a second roll on the table and a choice between the results... unless you get a Perils, in which case it works exactly the same as regular RoS (i.e. does nothing)

It just keeps things a little more random, but still offers some protection against rolling one of the higher results (but still under 75) on the Phenomena table, hence the lower cost of 250xp.

The first time I read I thought it was pick one of these abilities and that still seemed very good, the fact that it is pick two!

Also, while I still am working towards the Woodsman, I may be going via an Anglo-Saxon/Viking tangent.

Instead of Fire Selector and Special Issue Ammo Lys offered a few choices to Tacticals and the Combat Shield caught my eye if combined with Signature Wagear to get a Power Axe as well.

The only thing that is making me hesitate is that this might be a bit close to a Brynjarr light.

Remember the Talisman that Decimus had, and we thought that he had Dorn's geneseed?

I would personally say it is a bit...

For my money, the woodman/hunter role works, makes sense if you choose to take Scout armour, and having a decent gunsight is logical.

But all that doesn't quite fit with then lumping a shield and axe around too? (imho)

He did indeed. I think maybe it was the IF Ossific Relic rather than the Carcharodons Scrimshaw Talismans?

@Lysimachus I am a little torn as to whether I should take the IH chapter trapping (bionic hand) for extra cybernetic goodies plus that nice manual dexterity bonus, or instead the Salamander trapping Tools of the Forge (+3 tech-use), except re-fluff it as a stripped down/limited utility combi-tool of his own design and manufacture as opposed to a sigil on his armour. Think of it as one of the many models of multi-tools that handymen/electricians commonly carry around, but of a simplified design with a more limited number of attachments (e.g. only 1-2 screwdriver tips, integrated wire cutters + pliers, only one knife blade, one saw blade, etc.). Maybe even go do far as to argue that his combat blade is one of the attachments for the thing?

Ok, so I'm just keeping on top of things, we've currently got:

1 Mazer - Librarian, Feudal, Plotter, Geneseed: 7
2 Necro - Techmarine, Hive, Plotter, Geneseed: 8
3 Tro - Tactical, Feudal or Agri, Hunter, Geneseed: 1
4 MG* - Librarian, Feral, Brawler, Geneseed: 8
5 AT - Apothecary, ???, ???, Geneseed: ?
6 Ikka - Assault, Hive, Savage, Geneseed: ?
7 Xin* - Librarian, ???, ???, Geneseed: 3
8
9
10

* just a note for clarity… there are only 2 slots for a Librarian. Mazer has the 1st one. Xin asked next, so if he gets his sheet together ( :whistling:) in time for whenever we start, I will be giving it to him. But if he doesn't, MG gets it. I hope that is fair to all involved?

MG: As mentioned via PM,  either way you'll still get your place on the team. If you wanted to put together a second character sheet as well (would have to be Tac or maybe a Dev at this point, probably?)  just in case you don't get the Libby, please feel free?

And if any of our newer members want to join in on this one, please do? There are still 3 spots in the squad roster!

Sorry Tro, that's my error. Yep, no worries, plenty of time to decide between the two!

Edited the above summary.

I'm hoping for a decent mix of combos of Homeworlds and Personal Histories, hopefully there isn't any one that is stand out better (or worse) than the others?

Side point, you might have noticed I removed Literacy from the starting abilities (as I figured children from many of these backgrounds might not really have had much opportunity to learn) so someone might want to go with Civilised World which gets it back. It might not come up, but if it does, you might be glad of having someone who can actually read?

Didn't actually notice that.

'Yes, here.'

'What's this?'

'Aren't you supposed to be a Librarian?'

'I read minds, not books!'

'FFFFUUUUUUUUUUUU.....!'
