Tacs get the opportunity to take Scout armour, Assaulters don't as a rule but I'd be ok with it? Would have to figure out the swap of JP (+ Assault Marine rules) into something more appropriate, but we can sort something! Alright. My original idea was to have armor based on Deathwatch Scout armor (AP7 torso/arms, with a bodyglove (legs AP5) and a carapace helmet for the head (AP6). All covered with a camo cloak. This armor would have a vox integrated into the helmet, but not the anointment of obfusaction, auto-injector cuff, or interlocutor beacon, representing the Iron Gods attempt to make a good Scout armor but not having the tech to get all the bells and whistles. Whether that is a fair trade for power armor/jump pack is up to you as GM. As for the Assault Marine rules, gaining Stealth as trained instead of Pilot (Personal) seems easy and a simple change to Wings of Angels could work for special ability- Darkened Fury The Assault Marine must make a Challenging (+0) Stealth Test. If passed, if the Assault Marine makes a Charge action whilst using this ability, he adds 1d5 damage to melee attacks. This ability may only be used in Solo Mode. For wargear, the only thing I'm really thinking about is a paired set of combat blades as a must for my sneaky assault assassin. I wish the power blades from Black Crusade were a thing, as those are perfect, but I guess if I get two-weapon wielder I can still do some damage. Chapter trapping - Ossific Relic. +3 WS vs Imperial Guard. He has the finger bones of his first Imperial kill bronzed in a necklace. Geneseed roll - 5 Feedback always appreciated. Lysimachus
Good suggestion. The other thing I was thinking was that, if you wanted, I'd allow you to take Acrobatics and Assassin Strike from the Raptors Chapter table? This is an example where it would be a fitting Talent for the Character, without actually linking them to that Chapter? Oh, I like that- especially since both Concealment and Silent Move are on the General Marine Advances. If I were to take Acrobatics to replace Pilot, then I could purchase both Assassin Strike and Silent Move for 700 of my 1k starting XP. Then probably a Ws/Per/Ag advance for 200, leaving me sitting at 100 and waiting to buy the Concealment skill/Twin-Weapon Wielder (Melee) talent. Trokair
Settled on Agri, and in particular a extensive managed woodland preserve, kept in part so that the Planetory Govenor’s court and other landholders can enjoy some traditional hunting from time to time. Gerbrand Walthuz was one of several apprentice woodsmen to the Wardens of the Forest that manage the forest before being taken as an Astartes aspirant. Since we were Blood Claw styling our neophytes I left the default mkVI armour in place and took the option of a Power Axe instead as I figured Gerbrand would be familiar with axes as tools so would take to it better in weapon training then say a sword. Chapter Trapping as previously mentioned is the Marksman Sight, with Focal Targeter and Shadow Light, though I was thinking that part of the effects would be down to Gerbrand hunter background and the sight was more standard (as I doubt Gerbrand would have the tech knoladge to do more than some basic modification). XP spent was a Perception and a Ballistic Skill Advance. Rolled 7 for Demeanour, so Stoic. Sheet is ready I think. 16 hours ago, Lysimachus said: Side point, you might have noticed I removed Literacy from the starting abilities (as I figured children from many of these backgrounds might not really have had much opportunity to learn) so someone might want to go with Civilised World which gets it back. It might not come up, but if it does, you might be glad of having someone who can actually read? We can still attempt to read at half stat right? In that case I may need to rejig things a little as I imagine that while Gerbrand is not a great reader he would have learned the fundamentals. Necronaut
@Mazer Rackham fret not: our techmarine, at a minimum, will be a man of letters. If I b0rk it by even one word, your colon will suddenly become authentic, splendid millinery - by accident, and you can tell it's by accident as it doesn't have a feather. EDIT: Playing a Librarian without being able to read is possible, but abstract - Psyniscience could do it, but that's on Per, which is a weaker stat than I'd like, but it's easily buffed and maximised by HS+Autosenses, so I've just bought Literacy in lieu of a WS bump. Necronaut
Here's my WIP look for Ormenos (placeholder name for now). A little backstory for your reading pleasure/horror/discomfort: A small, wiry boy was selected from among the youths huddled about in the Great Hall of sub-level fifteen of Hive Tartarus on Viorda Prime to join the work crews maintaining and stoking the flames of the mighty plasma furnace which provided heat, power and life to all who resided within the towering arcology. Within a year he had mastered his duties and been made apprentice to the Chief Mechanic. He had the knack. At night, he borrowed the tomes of lore secreted away by the Chief Mechanic, himself a minor lay-priest of the Cult, and taught himself to read by the dim and sputtering light of his bunk’s lumen. His mind’s hunger for knowledge was boundless and terrifying. In the following year he was cornered and overpowered by the Overseer, a huge, imposing and disgusting hulk of a man and he knew terror and shame. He, along with many other children were similarly abused, as his proximity to the Chief Mechanic seemingly offered him no protection. He soon learned that he had been sold, accordingly, by his would-be protector. Later in that year, what could only be described as a freak accident saw the Overseer killed when a steam conduit unexpectedly vented, bathing the wretch in super-heated water vapour. The boy watched as his tormentor died slowly and horribly, his skin boiling and sloughing off while he howled for deliverance. None came. He fidgeted with the retaining pin which had been holding the offending safety release valve shut along with a coil of filament wire where they now resided in his pocket while he watched the man die. He eventually turned away and disappeared into the crowd. Both items ended up in a waste chute and were lost to time. A week passed and the Chief Mechanic died under similarly mysterious circumstances when the electrical panel he was servicing unexpectedly arced and he became the grounding path of a circuit carrying over twenty-thousand milliamperes of current. His charred husk and melted workman's boots were all that remained. It was later determined that a faulty terminal coupled with the improper observance of the Rites of Isolation from the Motive Force, with an assumption of intoxication, had caused the massive electrical discharge. The metal filings which had been painstakingly embedded into fingertips of the Chief Mechanic’s heavy-duty insulative gloves were regarded as a contributing factor, but were judged to be the result of carelessness and an over-fondness of amasec. The investigation was concluded promptly, and the Conclave of Magi installed new, more competent management over the hive’s power plant after servitorizing the previous leadership following such an alarming up-tick in workplace fatalities and apparent complacency. Three days later, a towering, dark-eyed stranger swathed in gray approached the boy and he was never seen by the hive again.
