How many lances can vet assault marines have? Iirc there's two lances per cc weapon set? Are they 1 per 5 on the vets?

Phraseology is quite misleading as it implies you can take them all with power lances.

Any member can take power weapons and other weapons from the Sergeant options

Veteran Assaults can take any number of Power Weapons, but the MkII Assault Marine kit comes with only four Heavy Chainaxes and since they showed only two poses I assume it'll be the same deal here.

It is a good time to be a fan of mixed armor marks! Once Mk 7 comes out in the same scale, that will be it. Buy a few boxes across the different armor ranges, and you've got the core of a whole army with a ton of variety.

Well, that’s it. We have no more old sized marines left. So GW/FW really need to start cranking out the new legion specific units again. We need new Grave Wardens, Justaerin, etc.

Well other than mk5, Recon squads, outriders, speeders and various upgrade kits to make seekers etc etc.

Still plenty of generic stuff before we move to the legion specifics

They look fantastic, best updated armour mark so far though I agree with the others about the jump packs. Rather disappointed they didn't update the old style Mk4 and just said that this is the new one that just happened to be used with the Mk6 which I feel is a bit of a cop out.

Assault marines have that funky shoulder strap thing going on that I didn't like with the Mk6, shaving them down is annoying, and it doesn't look like they are optional like with the Mk2 jump packs.

Agreed - and I already have - Mk II - VI. It looks like a few of the poses will swap at the hip/knee out as well, like they do on the others, which mixes it up even more. Discount retail makes the 20-man boxes a reasonable deal if you have a bits box of any size.

The Marines themselves look great, but reusing the MKVI jump pack on the Assault Squad instead of doing a new MKIV one is a real mark against them IMO given how iconic that Jump Pack design is.

Will still buy them

Another redesign that looks worse than what came before. I understand wanting to re-scale, but I don't understand a lot of the apparent desire to radically overhaul design choices. Why are the lower legs so weirdly chunky? The torsos so much less angular?

The torsos and jump packs of these mk. IV assault marines were so much better. Even the helmets, which are broadly the same on the new ones, just look so much sleeker and more menacing. The now old plastics retained that to a much greater degree.

At least the bolters are a lot less altered than the abominations on the newer mk. III.

I think they're fine. There does seem to be some sort of pressure for the new heresy designs to tweak *every* detail, usually (IMO) the ones that made the original design language work. Studs, jump packs, helmet profile, less ornamentation. People love the old sculpts, and it's not clear to me why they want to do MORE WORK beyond upscaling them for the most part. Single turbine packs are a huge missed opportunity—and for what? I just don't get it.

EDIT: Also I think these suffer from short lower legs like the new Cataphractii sculpts.. The kneepads are just too low relative to everything else. Not sure why no one has the gall to tell whoever designed this.

I don't like the reuse of the Mark VI jump pack and I dislike the bolter redesign. The grip, position of the magazine catch and scale on the bolter is inconsistent with the one featured on the Legion Rapier sprue. How come the era where the weapons were sculpted by hand had better consistency with weapon patterns than present day where they have all these designs stored on a computer?

I highlighted the parts of your text I agree with the most. Digital sculpting has sped up the production time, but some quality/personality in the miniatures has suffered. A lot of skulls in recent times just look derpy, and are inconsistent and all over the place. I worked in the Halloween Industry, and the skull telmets of the Reivers and the Night Lord praetor in power armor look so damn stupid. A company. Known for putting skulls on everything, some how forgot how to make good looking skulls?

Seriously, looks like the skull masks I'd put for a $3.49 for a dozen. Thin, flimsy plastic with chunky teeth!

Also missed opportunity to differentiate the helm sculpts on the mark 4 assault marines as that open mouth variant, center-back row. Like the breacher helmets we got on the breacher upgrade sprue.

Also mega-agree, at least this bolter redesign doesn't look as awful as the phobos pattern bolter redesign for the nu-markIIIb

I want this box. I don't have a need for another Sicaran and Contemptor, but I supposed I could toss them into another army.

Huh, the jump assaults seem to have both lefty and righty pistols, seems legion destroyers are a go off-rip

Good, cause that was a big annoyance for me during kit bashing that every model has their weapons in the same hand.

Very happy to see MkIV plastics, that's been one of the big things stalling my hobby!

I think I'm in agreement on the jump packs so may have to source third party packs. Will probably hold final judgement until I have them in hand though.

Also glad the box doesn't come with another Leviathan.

Guys they are coming with 10 Lance's. That takes the place of combat shields from other sets., they are not coming with an assault sprue. You can see that the lances shown are different.

Also I'm hoping the Jump Packs might be different, maybe they dont have the 3rd thruster of the mk6.
