Fairly certain he's Benjamin Button As he's gone from dodgy Colonel Sanders to strapping young chap. It's the only explanation. As an aside, artwork aside. The mk IV is really nice. With orks coming though and heresy being dead locally I won't be grabbing the box sadly. Evil Eye
AI or not the fingers definitely look a bit...off. Not a big deal as the box will be going in the recycling anyway, but worth noting. Armchair Warlord
On a scale of one to ten - YES ! Love everything I'm seeing here. Although I do heartily agree with someone's previous comment about them having MK VI style jump packs instead of the Forgeworld design MKIV packs. Matcap86
Isn't this just something along the lines of leaving tourists in Black Book 7? An artist derped or missed something, no need to immediately point a finger and yell AI because that's the hot topic of the day. Edit: I saw some people saying they don't like the Tigrus Bolters on these, but what is the main difference? I'm usually pretty keen eyed on these things, but I'm barely seeing a difference with the rapier ones or the ones in the older mkIV kit. Edit 2: Man, they really made this box for me, favorite HH tank, favorite HH Dread, favorite HH armour mark. If this set had been the launch box for HH2.0 I'd have bought 3. Lord Marshal
9 hours ago, ThaneOfTas said: So are we expecting this to be roughly the same price as the Custodes box? I reckon it'll be in the same range as the Siege Battle Group before it (£129 RRP); maybe a little higher (135-140ish?) if they're feeling cheeky. Sicaran is very nearly the same RRP as a Leviathan, so that lines up. Breacher Squad is the same RRP as Assault Marines, so that's another. A box of 5x Termies is only £8 less than a box of 20x Tacticals, and you got 10x of the former in the Siege Battle Group - but that's probably where the Contemptor comes in to make up the difference. If it's just the AoD Contemptor without all the options I could see it being the same price at £129, but if it has all of them like the standard box it could move a bit upwards. ArcusArmis
I'm just beginning to dip my toes into Heresy so while I don't get a lot of the feelings around the refreshes of the old armour Mks, I think these MKIVs looks pretty nice, even if i can't really thematically take them. Though if any Aussie Fraters are gonna get that Box, ill happily take the Sicaran and Contempor of your hands lol Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388047-new-mkiv-tactical-squad-assault-squad-maximus-battle-group/page/5/#findComment-6174626 Share on other sites
MoriyaSchism
20 hours ago, Wispy said: Heresy has been overpainting miniatures literally from the beginning. I don't think Book 7 from 2017 with that embarrassing error (that was produced during a period of transition from 7th to 8th edition) can be described as "the beginning". Yeah, they made mistakes before but this doesn't really excuse ones made in the present. It's a product, not charity. The Maximus Battle Group box art is supposed to be the first thing you see and probably is going to be reused as a cover for one of the upcoming campaign books just like the Mark III Battle Group cover got reused for a book. If they didn't care enough to quality check the something you see first when picking up a product like the cover art that means they are phoning it in. I wasn't complaining about composite shots using real miniatures, FW's team doing that predates Horus Heresy as a game. I enjoy that aspect of all those books. 20 hours ago, SvenIronhand said: Just because you disagree with their aesthetic choices, that doesn’t mean they’re not putting in the hours. I didn't say anything about hours either. Phoning it in doesn't mean they didn't work. Complaining about the same 5 poses being reused for the 4th time isn't disagreeing with aesthetic choices either. The fact they didn't plan ahead for the book release of Exemplary Battles, the lackluster initial release of 3.0 with the delayed Legacies PDF, the reuse of stock colour palette images as the cover art for the 3.0 Libers, the horribly compressed random excerpts from the Black Books released every week, the fact it took this long for them to release breachers and dedicated assault marines in plastic are all signs of Horus Heresy being a phoned in product. All signs that less care is devoted to it, how many hours they clocked in at the office is not my concern. I get people really want to reflexively defend companies that produce the products they like, but give me a break. We aren't talking about small indie developers or independent craftsmen here. 6 hours ago, Matcap86 said: Edit: I saw some people saying they don't like the Tigrus Bolters on these, but what is the main difference? I'm usually pretty keen eyed on these things, but I'm barely seeing a difference with the rapier ones or the ones in the older mkIV kit. The magazine catch was moved to a harder to reach place, possibly to accommodate hand pose from the Mk VI kit with the finger sticking out. Not sure why the grip was changed, but that's an entirely new grip assembly. The barrel and muzzle break also look smaller. They bayonet lug also got changed. In general it looks like the Tigrus bolter is progressively shrinking. I think the Rapier version was perfect, it looked like a refinement of the original sculpt. I really wanted to like the release of the new Mark IV kit, I was excited when I saw the colour palette image of the re-done Mark IV in one of the 3.0 books and the Tigrus pattern weapons featured in the Rapier and assault weapon upgrade sets. It seemed like things were on track to be good, but instead we got re-used Mk VI parts like the jump pack and things that were re-designed for no reason at all. The Thallax Cohort remains undefeated as the best Horus Heresy infantry kit. Maybe a part of a 3d print model got mirrored and they didnt notice? Or it's just like you said, because they have a bunch of pointy fingers on the tacticals and it wouldn't make visual sense. soviet1337
Re: the jump packs. There must be a destroyers sprue coming in the next few months. Marshal Mittens
I really like this battle force. I do wish they had chain axes so I could make reavers, but I had put my Sons of Horus on pause, waiting on MKIV (which I thought would be here like 18 months ago!), but I like all of these units. If the discount is decent I kinda want 3 of these for my son's of horus, a trio of sicarians would be great backing up a horde of MKIV. Wibbling
Being thoroughly unpleasant the hands are also very different sizes. I like the box, but I'll likely get them as individual boxes. What riles me most about the infantry is the guiding nubs for the torsos are on the sprue gates (if that's the right term). You clip them off and you're either miles out or snipping off a bit. It'd be nicer if the arm attachments were more obvious - ok, I am losing fine motor control but it feels a bit awkward still. I share other people's disappointment they're not the MK4 unique jump pack - it's a great design though. I imagine the MK5 jump pack will be borrowed from the MK2. That's no massive bother as it's a a massive bulky lumper. I'll also echo the wish for a 'chain axe' close combat sprue for non-assault folk. I may have an obsession with World Eaters though.... Jukkiz
Knowing GW we´re 100% losing the waist posing options like all modern updates to heresy armor marks. Examples of current mk. 2,3.6 It´s kinda... soso overall, but when you have army of 40 or more marines, samey poses are quite repeated. While true that losing waist posing doesn´t mean much to some, but to me it atleast allowed that little more of variety amongst marines of many sorts. That combined with different arms and so meant it was joy putting together different marines, not just another 20man bolter/special/melee squads. I just bought an old MkIV squad and I still have a lot of old MkIIIs for kitbashing purposes. Moving away from the modularity we had with the old kits is a huge mistake in my opinion not only in heresy also with the 'firstborn' kits. sockwithaticket, Evil Eye and roryokane 3 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388047-new-mkiv-tactical-squad-assault-squad-maximus-battle-group/page/5/#findComment-6174931 Share on other sites

Moving away from the modularity we had with the old kits is a huge mistake in my opinion not only in heresy also with the 'firstborn' kits. It particularly bothers me because they could absolutely have kept some kind of balljoint at the waist whilst upscaling the models. Having built a fair few classic-scale modular Marines with longer 3D printed legs, they look right at home next to the new-scale stuff, and there's nothing that would have stopped them subtly improving the proportions in general whilst maintaining that waist joint. Especially for Heresy era Marines which are fairly stripped down and uniform. phandaal, roryokane, sockwithaticket and 1 other 3 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388047-new-mkiv-tactical-squad-assault-squad-maximus-battle-group/page/5/#findComment-6174947 Share on other sites
