Valkyrion
30k and 40k differs because 30k could realistically have 100 marines in your army and still only be half the points cost of your force. There might very well be financial and logistical reasons for it, but uniformity will also be part of the design philosophy as HH is supposed to have tens of thousands of functionally identical marines wearing different marks of armour all trained to move and aim in the same way. The old style way was no more modular than these in terms of posing anyway, After all, there's only so many degrees of rotation you can shift the waist without it looking wrong. It was easier to mix different legs and torsos, I grant you. No excuses for not having single turbine jump packs though. That's poor. Similar poses in different armour marks really does make the difference. A Mk IV, say, pointing with a sword is a whole different vibe from a Mk V even if the poses are very similar, especially if like people on here you're big into your lore, so the limits are actually less of an issue, especially with the sheer number of intercompatible parts, and that's without all the optional accessories. Galron
I have more than enough power armor marines to build a legion. I wonder however how these would compare to Intercessors in size? Sorry if this was already asked. A sicarian is the last vehicle I need but maybe I will print up a new turret for it. Hopefully GW wizens up and does a Legends of the Heresy PDF for 11th. Really tempted to do a Howling Griffons army again and having the new 40k marine models, these guys with the assault marines dialed up as vanguard jump marines would be cool. I could save the Sicarion and contemptor for my actual HH armies. Odd choice for them to market them with Sons of Horus paint schemes and not this edition's two poster boy legions. soviet1337
I don't mind the five leg/torso poses too much. When you look at the 40k kits made up of 10 different bodies (e.g. Imperial Guard) you tend to see more dynamic poses like one guy running, one guy crouching, one guy jumping. This is OK if you're building one squad but it looks terrible if you have multiple squads. So I appreciate the fact that the different poses we get are within a fairly narrow range because it makes your second, third, and fourth squads all sit well together. Where I think they could have helped us out more is by making the different armour marks have slightly different stock poses, so they don't just look like the same dolly with different trousers, and/or by giving us an extra upgrade type sprue that gives you a guy reloading, a guy holding his bolter in one hand, maybe even (heresy!) a sergeant holding a bolt pistol, maybe also tabards or boot knives or the like. An Intercessor is slighlty more massive than a Legionnaire, but both are noticably mor massive than an average human mini. The in-hand feel and on the tabletop won't be too different though. I personally wouldn't mind if someone used 30k marine for 40k. On another note, I'm super pleased that we have MK4, however there's something off about them, I think the weirdly low brow, like SS3. The helms look really different to the current range. How would you feel if the Grey Hunters and Intercessors had identical poses? Would that be good too? There are duplicate bodies with the Greyhunters though lol. It is not materially different from the MKII sprues I'm looking at. Valkyrion said it best IMO. Yes, but those are different than intercessor bodies, which are different than hellblaster bodies which are different than infernus bodies etc etc. So in the army there will actually not be that many duplicate poses and if the sameyness within one squad bothers you, you can just swap some bodies with another kit. Blissful Brushes
You can get a level of customisation with mixing armour marks, in the same way you do with something like primaris - mixing Intercessor bodies with Wolves, assault etc. - I think the real tragedy of 30k is that you have to work really hard to mix a mkIII with a MkIV or MkVI or whatever (whether it’s a good look or not is a different matter) but that’s the same deal with primaris, I just think they have a great variance in the poses they provide. If I was king for a day I’d probably split the kits more like Saturnine and have a front/left/right facing torso and groin and hinge joint ankles and knees with a ball joint on the hips. Everyone would probably hate me making Tactical marines that modular, but the key here I’m king and I’d be happy The Lost Son 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388047-new-mkiv-tactical-squad-assault-squad-maximus-battle-group/page/7/#findComment-6175311 Share on other sites

There are plastic kits for 4 different power armour marks to give you that variety, tho. I promise you the difference in appearance from MKII and MKIII is vastly distinct compared to the differences between Hellblasters and Intercessors. Doghouse
Personally speaking, if I had made the new marks I would have made the legs and torso separate and had a small nub that aligns them, much like on the arms, that you can clip off. I think the main issue is sprue space and allowing them to make the kits simpler to produce. You also have kits like the Mk III where the front armour is a bit more integrated unlike previous editions. The arms from special weapon upgrades matching up does make some sense but I rarely follow the instructions on those and most match up anyway regardless of the torso. The rule of five complete models on one sprue also works well for them as they can just chuck sprues in combat patrol style boxes. You can cut the torso off the legs to mix and match marks but it is a larger extra step and not sure it will work as easy with the likes of modern Mk IV and Mk III. It is subtle but at least one of the Mk IV is a new pose. sarabando and Antarius 1 1 Back to top Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/388047-new-mkiv-tactical-squad-assault-squad-maximus-battle-group/page/7/#findComment-6175370 Share on other sites
Antarius
I don't think it's a huge problem, as I think armies still look quite good and varied with just a little bit of work. But at the same time, I won't pretend that I wouldn't prefer the torsos and legs to be separate and that my mind isn't a little boggled that they're not. sarabando
the real crime here is that we havent had any legion specific upgrades for other armour marks after mk6.
