Emperors Immortals
Absolutly amazing work, i love your ability to convey such vibrancy from your flatter surfaces - and especially th eDC black i know how hard that can be!!! Some truly inspiring work, its taken me 3 nights to read after my baby falls asleep, i was afraid the gasping would wake her.She slept through the applause though :)
Koyote
Thanks EI. I appreciate the kind words. :P I know that this thread can take a while to slug through, but if one has the patience there are some nice rewards.
Slim Pickens
Great stuff Koyote. Nothing beats getting paid to peruse 5 years worth of posts on nice models. And you are right about the patience paying off :P Pg. 14 about 3/4 down I had to do a double take...

And you are right about the patience paying off :) Pg. 14 about 3/4 down I had to do a double take... I was playing in an Adepticon team tournament game against a great group of guys who happened to be Chicago firemen. While I was taking some photos of the game, the firemen pointed out what was going on behind me, so I ran around to their side of the table and snapped a photo... or two... of the game. :P

Master Zarachias
another day, another curse at my truly Useless painting... even with the single-hair brush, I can only just manage to write the character's name. my banner is just a collection of... by now, badly damaged transfers arranged into the original fluff history. even I don't remember what i was thinking of back then. Still, good to see 5 years of quality painting, building, and campaigning... maybe this time i can get my act together and win sometimes. One thing: Way back at post 333, with your words on sanguinary priests, scouts, and no libby jump-packs... Seems someone on the chapter council was taking notes. Koyote
I found the design on B&C (Thanks Forteller) and improved upon it with the extended hull. I like this design for both its appearance and the fact that you don't have to cut up multiple kits to make a single Stormraven. It is made primarily from a single Valkyrie kit . The Valkrie's hull was reversed and then extended with plasticard. The cockpit and nose section were not attached to the front of the hull, but instead cut down to fit on top. The clamps in the back are weapon mounts for the Valkyrie's door guns. The multi-meltas are from the SoB Immolator kit. The assault cannons are from the Ravenwing bike/speeder sprue. The vision slits back and the hatch on the bottom are taken from an old rhino kit. I still need to do a lot of filling cracks (e.g. under the nose of the cockpit) and adding detail, but this is basic design. I also need to add two more missiles. http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/stormraven2.jpg http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/stormraven3.jpg http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/stormraven6.jpg Since the dread is held at aft by clamps, I figured the best place for the 4th access point is underneath the extended compartment. I still have to add hinges to the hatch http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/stormraven5.jpg
ZiggyStardust
:P Good Looking! But how is it going to land? Not belly down cause then you're going to destroy the Assualt cannons... Or is it hovering?
Koyote
And purely as a matter of aesthetics, I think it looks silly for the embarked dreadnought to be attached to its base. To fix this I attached the dread to its base with magnets. http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/dreadmagnet.jpg
Morticon
Damn Koyote - nice. Can you make a tut? Or at least show us how you extended the hull ??
Koyote
Damn Koyote - nice. Can you make a tut? Or at least show us how you extended the hull ??The aft cap (the piece on which the clamps are attached) normally fits directly onto the hull. To extend the hull, I simply traced the dimensions and shapes I needed onto plasticard, cut them out, and then glued them into place. The pics show the size and shapes of the plasticard pieces I used to extend the hull. It's really very simple. Its best to fully assemble the hull and the extension before adding anything else to the hull, especially the tail sticks.
Koyote
But how is it going to land? Not belly down cause then you're going to destroy the Assualt cannons... Or is it hovering? Landing gear lowers from doors under the hull. Just like on a B-17. http://www.dotphoto.com/SAN1/13/EE/E2/i13EEE295-404B-4873-8D58-F1D1FDAD299A.jpg

Koyote
:jaw: havent you painted the damn thing yet Koyote? i demand pictures! Sorry, but I am still experimenting with units and lists. For example, Ive recently decided to give Mephiston a try. There's not a lot you can do to customize Meph that doesn't require extensive GS sculpting, so I settled with a weapon swap, a fancy BA backpack, and a skull servitor. http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/mephiston-1.jpg Removing the plasma pistol was more of a chore than I first imagined. The end of the pistol butts up against his skull shoulder pad so after cutting it away, I had to reshape the pointed teeth and add a new canine with GS. Also, because of my own clumsiness, I had to sculpt him a new thumb.
Demoulius
your not playing with unpainted minis are you? perish the thought! :o mephi looks neat. and better to clip his finger off then your own eh? why did you convert the model though? i dont really see the need... Koyote
why did you convert the model though? i dont really see the need... To make the model my own. To distinguish my Mephiston from almost every other Mephiston model. Part of the genius of Games Workshop is producing a model line that includes a vast number of bitz for conversion and customization. It's why I may dabble in other game systems from time to time, but why I always come back to Games Workshop. Overall, I have made some progress... - The 18 new helmeted heads for my Assault Marines have been cleaned and mounted for painting - 76 molded shoulder pads have been cleaned up and are ready to be mounted for painting (prepping the metal pads was a pain in the :) ) - Mephiston, Sgt w/ pw, 2 SPs, and new lascannon models have been assembled and are ready for paint - Stormraven is still getting some finishing touches (although I am thinking about selling it on eBay and building a second) - DC Dread is almost done http://i72.photobucket.com/albums/i200/10011970/progress-1.jpg

Koyote
Oh, and you NEED more terrain in your games! You're not playing Fantasy are you? Seems like it in some pics Sadly, I have no control over the amount of terrain on tournament tables. I play that hand I'm dealt and do the best with what I've got.
