First of all, brilliant models. I always liked pre-heresay marines and yours are surely one of the best I've seen  The painting is good and the conversion work, especially on the captain is very good.

Hmm... the old weapons just look so out of place - mediocre sculpts, and then the excellent Marine models. You might be better off converting current weapons to look like the Heresy ones.

I can't agree with this. The combination of the old weapons with the tall new marines is just perfect ;) In particular the last marine with the lasercanon looks great. I'm looking forward to the finished and complete devastor squad.

I think they are ok If you paint them nicely...

I really enjoy your work so far.. keep it up

Excellent work, i must say, one of my mates has started a "heresy" world eaters army (i.e. pre heresy colour scheme, khorne symbols) but i think these capture more of the pre heresy feel. I have been tempted to start a 1K Sons pre heresy army, which i have now found enough images etc. to start it. Only question is do any of you guys have any ideas on how to make pre heresy terminators? I mean the shoulder pads mainly, cause the rest can be made from customised plastics.

Also love the idea of true scale marines, look so much more imposing. i'm just wondering what the thigh guards are from?

Thanks

very very nice. i like the paint jobs and the conversions, i actully like the old school weapons, adds a nice touch

But im sorry...i just dont see how you can not clean the joins in the leg better....it takes the model down so much when they are so good.

have a look at the old school bolter made from a new version.

the old style bolters just bring down the excellence of the marines. They are sculpted poorly, too plain and don't match the intricacy of the armour you're using,.

lovely work just consider the bolters. they look like they're holding toys. perhaps embellish them a little.

Gah, why do I want to build a pre-heresy army every time I see your stuff...?

Great work, however, the white on the captain's leg looks abit think, it might just be the pic.

Also, were are those realy cool white (before painting) torso from and how do you paint that white?

cheers

Thanks guys! :D

Right first up another DA picture for TheDean...

captain fuzzball: Thanks mate. The more Heresy Era stuff the better in my book. The white is a fifty/fifty mix of watered down Space Wolves Grey and Skull white, then I go over it with a twenty five/seventy five mix of SWg and Skull White again then highlight with Skull White.

The Captain is a bit messy to be honest but the reason I went with the WE is because white can be difficult to master, I thought it'd be a challange to get a gaming standard army up and running.

Mind you the crumby camera I'm using doesn't help much...

Deacoknight: As much as I'd love to do a Librarian the Heresy Era Legions (with the exception of the Thousand Sons) weren't allowed to use them.

Quannum: Thanks for the link mate, I'll check that one out. The reason I've gone with the 2nd ed is because I have around thirty or forty of them lying around the place and as this is a gaming army it's just easier to use them. I'll have a bash at embellishing them a little if the conversion of the newer bolter is too time consuming.

BlindhamsterYep more updates to come shortly, just been too busy lately to get anything done...lousey real world getting in the way of me finishing my army...

Devestator, Command squad and a couple of dreads coming up asap.

gazgrub: The proper models are a lot cleaner in the leg area, honest... :)

Danius Smithe: The thin plates are from the Terminator Assault Sqaud sprue but could be easily made from bit of plasticard. I'm toying around with some Terminators right now actually, if I can get the look right I'll post a tutorial.

Rau le Creuset: Thanks mate, I personally love the old style Lascannons and have made a full four man team of them so far. I've also knocked together two heavy bolter marines using the old second ed plastics from the old plastic scouts. I'm basically using second stuff because firstly it's easier than converting thirty or forty weapons and secondly for nostalgic reasons. I'll have a crack at the conversion link above though.

magnum_opera: I'm going to try and add some detailing to the Lascannons in the form of power cables leadin to the backpack if I can. I think that I'm going to have add some sort of detail to the bolters though.

More to come asap... B)

first of all i must say im loving your work i really am, ive always wanted to do a preheresy/ heresy era world eaters army and now i think your stuff is the inspriartion i need to kick start the project (yet another one...)

i know this isnt the place to be getting into fluff but the legions did have librarians

Index Astartes 3, page 43

"a contingent of space marine librarians approached the dais. The Emperor Acknowleddged them with a nod and all fell silent, for visible amongst the librarians were the chiefs of some of the greatest legions in the imperium"

Am i right in thinking that it was you who was doing a tutorial for your 'bigger dark angels' before the crash?

Thanks guys!

Yeah that was me that posted the tutorial for the WFBCW/Marine hybrids, I'll repost the artical asap due to demand.

Ok quick updates...

Maybe new version of Captain or First Sergeant...not sure yet.

Heavy Bolter protoype (not sure about this one though...)

Second Lascannon Marine

Captain Varren progress (not happy with this one...)

http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b141/Doghouse12/World%20Eaters/Captain1.jpg

I think that I may have made a mistake with the white technique and may have to do Varren again from scratch, not very happy with the progress I'm making here. Just feels like sloppy work to me.

i love the new captain, hes simply amazing! really love the style these guys are getting.

one question, any ideas where i could get second ed weapons from?

also, i think the lower legs need a little bulking up... seem a little slender right now.

Very cool,

You couldn't show us the back of the new captain could you?

Also, I think the heavy bolter looks slighttly odd, I think you should use the standard GW one or the old metal one(now only availible with Lost and the Damned devistators  )

Keep up the great work

The look great, the only problem I have, is the fact that all the dev's have the same pose.

Perhaps have one of them holding the gun, kinda like the new missle launcher? right now, they're all looking to the left, with the gun down...

but, that aside, it all

might just make some pre-heresy myself now...

The new captain is smoking... he really looks how I imagine the pre-heresy worldeaters.

One suggestion I might make is to model little comabt enhancers/stimulants onto the heads of your marines without helmets, as the world eaters commonly used combat stim implants.

I just love those lasercanon devastors

I'm not sure about the heavy bolter guy, could you post a sideview from him ? From a different angle I could say more about him. The new sergeant looks brilliant, especially the pose and the head. Were's the head from ? I would use him as a veteran sergeant, he somehow doesn't look like a captain. Why do you complain about your captain ? The pose works very well, the paint job e.g. on the head is really nice  If you don't like him, give it to me ;)

Thanks guys!

Rau le Creuset: The head is from the catachan heavy wepons sprue. I cut off the bandanna and GSed the mohawk and forehead and added a neck. I'm thinking of using two officers in the game, one master and one captain. I may use the first model as Captain Varren using the Master stats and use the new one as either his first sergeant or Captain from another company with the Captain stats.

Everytime I look at the first captain though...I don't know...something's not right about him.

Blindhamster/kr00tman: I'll look into the dimensions for you when I get the chance mate. :)

Not sure where you could get second ed weapons from nowadays. I dug mine out of the attic for this project.

Captain Loken: Not a bad idea that, I may have to give that a go.

MIGHTYPanhead: There's only two of the Devs that are facing to the left. I'm working on creating a narrative for the unit, basically one of the devs is pointing out a potential target for the squad whilst the other is looking to see what he's pointing at. The other two I'm working on are aiming their lascannons in firing positions.

As for making your own Heresy stuff, go for it mate! It's really interesting stuff (just remember to post pictures...)

captain fuzzball: Here you go...
