  2. This is the Imperial Knight Crusader Freeblade I began building before we found out about 9th. It took a while, But I'm finally finished. I scratch built his base and made some alterations to the kit removing all of the ornamental flourishes and filling armor seams. I wanted it to look different than most Imperial Knights, but not immediately obvious. I had planned to play him as an auxiliary to my Raptors Space Marines. So many CP now though.... Anyway, that's why the chapter symbol is on it's hatch with some honor badges. I painted him to look battered because in my mind this Freeblade doesn't have a vast amount of resources or a coterie of sacristans. He has to make do with what help he can scrounge from the Tech-marines of the Raptors V company he's been oath sworn to fight alongside. So repainting isn't a priority. He's called Solar Warden.
  3. Hello everyone! I posted in the Adeptus Mechanicus section, and the wise Magos there answered crucial questions and redirected me here for some further guidance. For the sake of brevity, I will try to get to the point as quick as possible. I recently acquired a Cerastus Knight-Atrapos for $65 on eBay a couple of months back. I assembled it, and then I left it in my drawer. I have an idea on what I would like it to look like, but I might need help conceptualizing/accomplishing it. I would love for the Atrapos to have a Greco-Roman theme to it, as I absolutely love the culture and artwork. My idea was to recreate the scenes of Trajan's Column on the armor panels of the Knight. Unfortunately for me, this requires a level of painting and greenstuff skill that I do not possess. I had an idea of buying a replica of Trajan's Column, massaging out a thin layer of green stuff, and then rolling the column over the surface of the greenstuff to capture the details of the Column and then tearing/fitting the green stuff to fit on the armor panels. I was wondering if anyone has done something similar to this, or even if you think that this project is feasible as well as providing any guidance/pointers for a novice. Thank you in advance!
  4. Ok guys, I desperately need help. About a couple of months ago, I was cruising through eBay and saw a Cerastus Knight Atrapos with a starting bid of $65. I figured, hey, I will give it a shot. I primarily play Dark Angels and Sons of Horus, but for $65 I couldn't pass it up. I ended up winning it for that amount. I promptly assembled it and since then it has sat in my drawer, languishing away. To make a long story short, I decided that my project for the next couple of months will be the completion of my Atrapos. Which brings me to some points that are kinda questions. 1) Are there any benefits to running an Imperial Knight House vs. a Mechanicus Knight? I know there is a difference, but I unfortunately have not had the opportunity to look at the new AdMech codex. I have the Imperial Armor Index with the Atrapos' stats, but seeing as how the new Codexes supersede the Indexes I figure there might be some new issues or themes to consider. 2) What kind of custom bits are available to spruce up a Knight, GW or otherwise? I had an idea about a custom Knight house that had a Greco-Roman theme to it. I thought that it would be cool to replicate the scenes of Trajan's column on the armor panels of the Knight describing its history. Unfortunately for me, that involves either 1) a level of painting skill I do not have or 2) a level of greenstuff skill that I do not have. 3) Lastly, I would like this Knight to be field-able in either my 30k Sons of Horus army or my 40k Dark Angels Army without having to stretch the fluff too much. Is this feasible? If so, what are some of ya'lls suggestions? Thank you in advance for answering!
  5. So, I think I should divide my AdMech WIP thread and the Knight House I'm working on. I should take some pics later of the first Knight, but I'm kind of stuck on a name for the house right now. The House was ancient, and headquartered somewhere in the Obsidious system, but died out during the Old Night and only remained as legends until several centuries ago. Through dubious means, a Forge Lord acquired a Knight chassis (maybe more than one, not sure yet) and spent decades repairing and rebuilding it. As he got it ready, he sought out active Freeblades and pilots who had survived losing their Knights, and bribed those he could to come to Obsidious and join him, and used them and the rebuilt Knight(s) to restart the House. He claimed he had discovered the deactivated Knights and so sought out distant descendants of the old house, and hoped for political advancement due to his find. However, it backfired, because the Knights were determined not to dishonor the name they had falsely taken as their own (being ashamed of their secret). So, for a name, I have a few ideas. First, I could twist the name of an actual extinct noble house into something that sounds 40k appropriate. For example, House Mannoth (taken from house Monmouth) or House Hexetus (house Exeter) or house Khandos (house Chandos). The other option is making one up, which I find harder. I thought up a few sort of generic names that sound like Knight Houses, but I am not that excited about them since they are generic (stuff like Coldshroud, Hawkwood, Winterveil from the canon Houses). I had a few name ideas I like more but they don't sound that much like noble houses. One I have lingered on is House Fulkanith (derived from 'volcanic,' with the idea being that in ancient texts the word is used to describe their corporate personality as well as their headquarters, and it is mistakenly attributed to be the name of the house). But I'm not entirely sold on that, and I think something like Mannoth might be better. I'm open to any thoughts, if anyone has them!
  6. ++ COMPLETED ++ Hello, hello! A while ago a friend of mine bought me Imperial Knights: Renegade on the premise I kept one (which I already did and painted) and then did him a Chaos Knight in return. Originally, it was just going to be a funky paint job, but the scope has now increased. He collects Iron Warriors, so with it mostly being a silver paint job with hazard stripes, I felt it needed something more to give it that chaos bang. Firstly, that pesky detail had to go. It was too clean and imperial. Now at the stage where some greenstuff is being blobbed on and shaped. When its dry, it will be sanded down so its thin and then a second layer applied so I can detail it and add things like the rings between the spikes.
  7. Okay, something weird happened this week. When the Renegade box was originally released I though that it wasn't a limited edition thing and that I would be able to get it in some years when I had the money. However it wasn't, so it was a big letdown when it stopped being sold, as buying a Knight in this box was so much more affordable than buying it independently. However this week two Renegade boxes arrived at my local store misteriously and without any logical explanation! The first one was sold almost instantly, but the manager started asking people if they wanted the remaining one. My original plan from when the box was released was to pick it up with a friend, have a Knight each and build the scenery for a "basement" in where we both play but, unfortunately, my friend was pretty broke and said that he won't be able to afford it for some time. I tried and tried to find someone who wanted a Knight from the box, but no one did so, at the end, this happened: So yeah, I bought the box alone... However it is something I couldn't afford and had to ask money for it, specially knowing that Mass Effect Andromeda is being released next week for those with early access (such as me, the 10% discount it offers makes it actually cheaper to buy in that way). This means that I'm, sadly, going to have to sell one of the Knights and possibly even the building. The thing is that, while I'm at it, I though that I could convert it and paint it and sell it for a larger amount of money on eBay or other interested people to make it more profitable and decided to start a comission painting service. I have made many commissions in the past, but it always was on a local scale to people that I more or less knew, so I decided to take this a step farther and sell overseas, as converting and painting others models is something that I actually enjoy, because it gives me the opportunity to execute ideas outside of what my army would usually be. So, if you are interested in a converted and painted Imperial Knight, or know someone that might be, do not doubt on sending me a PM. However these are not reasons to create a WIP thread, so this isn't here for the purpose of selling my product but rather for the purpose of sharing my progress on it to receive feedback and be able to improve. Right now I don't know what I should make from the following list: - Regular Imperial Knight: just changing the pose, making a fancy base and painting it well. It is simple but it doesn't offer as many possibilities as the other options. - Renegade Knight: same as above but with Chaos motifs and maybe some minor conversions. - Chaos Knight: this is where the fun starts. The idea would be to heavily convert the Knight to make it look daemonical and chaosy, with mutations and all of those things. - Cerastus Knight: this is possibly the most difficult option, as it means that I have to change the model proportions and make his weapons from scratch, and I don't know if people would want to buy it... I'm right now more inclined forward to the Chaos Knight option, as I believe that it is the one which offers more possibilities while not being as risky as the Cerastus, but I'm still pretty undecided, so I'm open to any suggestion, even other options that I haven't considered in here. If you want to see some of my most recent work for headlines of what I'm capable of follow the link of my signature to my WIP thread and, also, I'm making a web page that will be finished soon hopefully. Thanks a lot for your attention!
  8. So I got an Imperial Knight kit last month for my birthday. Unfortunately due to miscommunication with my family they had purchased the older Knight Paladin kit instead of the new Knight Warden kit. I did not feel like spending the extra money to purchase all those extra bits off Ebay so I just assembled it as a Paladin. This means it has two heavy stubbers instead of a stubber and a meltagun as I had originally planned. My question is if the meltagun is particularly worth it as an upgrade for the Knight? Or should I not worry about missing anything major in terms of game effectiveness. I have not yet actually used a Knight yet in my games and I was wondering if people found it particularly useful.
  9. So I played my Imperial Knight for the first time yesterday. It was an interesting experience. I was using a Knight Paladin allied with my Space Marines. I’m looking for tactics and advice on using a Knight as an ally. I’ve searched a lot for Imperial Knight tactics, but the majority of them seem to deal with all-Knight armies rather than just taking an ally. So I’m looking for advice on how to improve my rather lukewarm performance with my Knight. One of the things I noticed was how surprisingly fragile my Knight Paladin was, dying on Turn Two in both my games, both times due to multiple high-strength shots into the thinner side armor without the Ion Shield, which took off most of its hull points in a single shooting phase. (In the second game it was a Chaos Predator that took off 5 hull points with three penetrating hits, one of which was an Exploded! Result.) In my second game due to a failed charge, my Knight didn’t even have a chance to do any meaningful damage to my opponent’ army. Is there any particular advice to helping screen a Knight’s flanks or to help it survive longer? It certainly seems to be quite the fire magnet for me. I was wondering about the viability of using Rhinos to try and screen the Knight’s flanks, seeing as I usually go mechanized Marines. I used this 2000pts list essentially against Chaos Marine armies. 10. First off, apologies for the terrible pun (what this is in reference to will become clear). I'm in the process of assembling the first of 2 Imperial Knights I recently picked up and looking at the Thunderfist I couldn't help but think the fingers could be hinged (at the knuckles), and as it turns out they can. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxrYIak3fjY&feature=youtu.be Enjoy. Comments welcomed. Edit - To properly embed the video.
  11. WELCOME to my forge this is where i will compile whatever randomocity happens to be inhabiting my desk. Once upon a time many moons ago i finally decided to make that brave step from lurker to Frater, seems like it was only days ago but now i look back in the short time ive been on this site ive accomplished more in my hobby life than in the entire decade ive been working on these wonderful little pastic space men. And this is where i attempt to keep track of it all perhaps eventually i will learn how to do the fancy things some frater do where they put links in this cover page to all of there glorious projects but until then ill just have to try to remember to update this page on a semi regular basis ( note "try" and "remember") Anywho for the next seven months ill be working on my army for the Tale of Twenty Hobbiests. A project im extremely excited about as this will be my first fully painted army!!!! Now i just have to re-learn how to play once its all finished . But im also excited because im exploring a different side of my favorite legion The Salamanders without becoming just another Red Marked Im going to write, build, convert, and paint them to show the legions darker sons those who strayed from the promethean creed for one reason or another. WARNING i never got a grade above a C in English class i make no clames at being a profesional writer in fact i know it needs a lot of work and is now the soul reason i regret not paying more attention in those afformentioned English classes keep that in mind when reading my fluff that its written around a 3rd grade level But if you dont mind my inability to propperly punctuate and my struggles with spelling then carry on as usual or just skip to the pics whatever floats your boat. Hello my fellow plastic and resin crack addicts. I've been trolling the pages here for quite some time. In fact it's where I've gotten a lot of my best ideas, inspiration, and techniques. What with the ETL V going on I've decided it's high time I enter the fray and start contributing to the community that's already given me so much. So on to the good part. This Year for the ETL I'm hoping to bring glory to my beloved SALAMANDERS. For my first vow I wanted to stay on the small side and not bite off more than I can chew. Since having to be an adult five days a week really gets in the way of my modeling. I'm starting with my first veteran tactical squad the only one from my BAC box that will be modeled as such. They will be known as the Helkytes a squad consisting of Istvaan survivors. They're led by a young Veteran Seargeant by the name of Daario Naharis (yes I'm a game of thrones fan as well) who is equipped with a MC power axe and a combi flamer as well as artificer armor wrought by his own hands and a volkite serpenta. Since the squad has been able to re-equip and re-supply the squad is equipped with vexilla, nuncio-vox, and two meltas, and melta bombs and supposing my math is accurate that comes out to 365 pts. Once they are completed they will be joined by the rest of my Istvaan survivors some of whom will be from the iron tenth and some will be sons of deliverance. Anywho that's enough rambling for now it's time for pictures which I will try to post regularly as progress is made any C&C is always appreciated http://s33.postimg.org/ibzc1uzf3/20160605_150824.jpg how to take a screen shot http://s33.postimg.org/5ixpzvyof/20160605_160035.jpg imageupload

  17. I'm trying to work on the colour scheme for my Knightly house, but I'm having trouble envisioning it. I know that Space Marines and Battle Sisters have a painter, but is there one for an Imperial Knight anywhere? If there's more than one suitable option, which one would you recommend? Thanks in advance.
