I've found myself thinking this in the last 2-3 games I've played. There's maybe 1-2 useful ones, however the rest seem to be tied to specific units, or just not worth it. I've been starting games with a full 12CP as WLT's and Relics aren't that great to me, beyond the free ones I give to my Farseer, and usually finishing games with 3-5 CP depending on how my rolls have gone. The only strats I seem to use are: Lightning fast reactions - generally every opponent shooting phase Bladestorm (when I remember on my guided Avengers) Feigned Retreat (if I get caught, maybe 1-2 times per game max) Optional: Grenade pack (I always forget about this, so never actually used it, but would be amazing with a full unit) Linked Fire - if I have 2 prisms, however the prism then needs guiding, and it's useless against it's main target, Custodes, who can transhuman and turn off rerolls. Are you making use of any other strats? Am I missing a trick here?

An interesting discussion... How do we get the best out of Stratagems when using the Ultramarines? Mentioned in another thread, should we burn through our Stratagems quickly whilst we have the units still alive or save them for later on to for something decisive when both sides have lost a lot of models? I'm thinking it's a matter of using the Stratagems as soon as possible, providing the benefit of doing so is measurably worthwhile. What does this mean? Well, be bold. If you want your Tactical squad jumping out of a Rhino with plasma and Grav Cannon to attack a powerful target then do it while you can soon as you can! Wait too long and the opponent might stop you or blunt the attack. Conversely, save the Command Point if your Sternguard are shooting at stragglers of a unit instead of using Masterful Marksmanship. That's an obvious waste but there will be times when you have similar options. Ask yourself "would I benefit from this Stratagem above and beyond the alternative of not using it?" I want a minimum of 7 Command Points in a 2000pts game, 6 in a 1500pts game. With 7 Command Points, I'll spend them a couple a turn until I have only a couple left then evaluate what I absolutely need to keep the CPs for. I'm not big on the 3 CP Stratagems personally. They are mostly over costed but one exception could be a counter charge with a Terminator squad against something beastly and using Honour the Chapter. Imagine charging into Mortarion with a Terminator squad and Dreadnought. He is unlikely to kill both and if he goes for the Dreadnought then you could hit him with Honour the Chapter. Potentially game winning. Death to the Traitors! looks interesting in a similar manner. I build my list now to use the Stratagems as best I can. It's our strength thanks to Scions of Guilliman, our Warlord Trait and every unit being able to hurt every unit. I make sure I have at least 1 Heavy Bolter so I can use Hellfire Shells. I try to use Sternguard so I can use Masterful Marksmanship. I have strong Tactical squads so I can benefit from Scions of Guilliman. I have Terminators for assault so I can use Death to the Traitors! and Honour the Chapter. Lastly, we have the best Warlord Trait for an army built for Stratagems. Refunds are amazing and will frustrate your opponent. Take Adept of the Codex EVERY TIME people! I'm interested in hearing other peoples musings on the subject. :)

Can an Ultramarines Warlord with Adept of the Codex (the UM-specific Warlord Trait) use it to gain the refund on Command Points spent on Stratagems used 'before the battle', such as Relics of the Chapter or Chapter Master? As near as I can tell, the Warlord Trait is selected during army selection, before the Stratagems; however, it also states that the Warlord must be alive to use it, and I don't think anything is 'alive' before the battle. Thoughts?

Gang, The Cheat Sheets that I shared earlier for Space Wolves here, and for the Grey Knights over on the subforum for Titan had too much information on them. So, instead of providing the actual rules, here is a link to a mostly blank Example Cheat Sheet Format that you can fill in on your own to use. All you need to do is go through your Codex and Saga of the Beast (as well as the Rulebook and Vigilus Defiant, if you wish to get all of the them) and add in the relevant information from any Stratagems that you want to have at your fingertips during a game. You'll see in the Example Cheat Sheet how I have the rows sorted by Timing, so you can quickly access the information about the Stratagems as you flow through the game; I found this to be the most useful technique. So, this will take just a few minutes of work on your part to make a copy of the format and fill in with whatever information you wish. For my purposes, I printed off the Cheat Sheet (once filled in) and slipped into the back laminate area on the outside cover of a 3-ring binder. Inside the binder is my army list, special rules, psychic powers, and all of my unit data sheets, inside document protectors. I don't have to carry the actual codex, but have all of the rules that I need readily at hand. Enjoy, Val
