Plaguelord Baldric
My local GW recently had a comp advertised called "Box of sprue, what can you do" that I had hoped to participate in, but due to circumstances, I could not attend. This inspired me to try and make something using the mountain of sprue I have lying around the house. Wanting a dreadnought for a small Khorne army I am planning on building and not having any money to spend, I decided this would be the perfect project to try and use the sprue for. I grabbed some of the sprue, my vehicle bits box, glue and tools and off I set. Here are a couple of photos so far. http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n117/Plaguelord_Baldric/Tutorials%20and%20WIPs/Front.jpg http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n117/Plaguelord_Baldric/Tutorials%20and%20WIPs/Side.jpg http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n117/Plaguelord_Baldric/Tutorials%20and%20WIPs/top.jpg http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n117/Plaguelord_Baldric/Tutorials%20and%20WIPs/Bottom.jpg So, what do you think of the idea? Plaguelord Baldric
Thanks for the encouragement. After doing a bit more work, I have decided that I am not happy with it. http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n117/Plaguelord_Baldric/Tutorials%20and%20WIPs/ScratchDread/UpdateRightSide.jpg http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n117/Plaguelord_Baldric/Tutorials%20and%20WIPs/ScratchDread/UpdateLeftSide.jpg http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n117/Plaguelord_Baldric/Tutorials%20and%20WIPs/ScratchDread/UpdateRear.jpg I think I need to extend the body back a bit. That means pulling the exhausts off, but that shouldn't be a problem. Terminator Tomatron
that is a seriously good effort!! i would be more than happy with that, plus it looks pretty big, how big is it in comparison to a GW dread? Here are a couple of pics to show just how big. http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n117/Plaguelord_Baldric/Tutorials%20and%20WIPs/Update25-05.jpg http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n117/Plaguelord_Baldric/Tutorials%20and%20WIPs/Update25-05one.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/110455-wip-scrapscratch-built-khorne-dreadnought/#findComment-1267074 Share on other sites

Plaguelord Baldric
Thanks. The legs are going to be scratch built out of my bits box as I am not going to buy anything extra to use on the dread. Besides, I don't have any spare cash. Especially now my wife and I are expecting our second child. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/110455-wip-scrapscratch-built-khorne-dreadnought/#findComment-1267268 Share on other sites

StratoKhan
Nice work. Personally I thought the exhausts looked better than the grill things... I also don't think that the random mix of rhino plates looks as good as it could, for example I would have swapped places, moving the spikes underneath the skull plate and perhaps using two spike plates instead of that twisted metal face, which isn't very Khorne in my opinion. It would make the model look more 'made' and less kitbashed. The front part is what makes it great, the sarcophagus is very well done. Take care that the end product doesn't end up looking too boxy, I think you know what I mean, just don't forget to angle the different parts properly. You've already done that with the plates to both sides of the sarcophagus, so I think it'll be fine. I think the limbs will be the hardest parts to pull off, I look forward to seeing what you come up with. Plaguelord Baldric
Thanks again for the feedback, it is really appreciated. @StratoKhan: Thanks very much for taking the time to post such an indepth response. The exhausts are not gone, they just need to be reworked. After I extended the body and did a test fit, they looked way to small. I will be looking at ways to bulk them out so that they don't look out of place on the dread. The top vents have been used only to add a little extra detail. With the armoured plates, I actually like the way they sit because they do appear wrongly placed and add to the chaotic feel, for me anyway. As to adding another spikey plate instead of the face, I do agree with you, but unfortunately, I have to work with what is available from my bits box and I want to keep it relatively simple. I agree that the limbs are going to be hard to do, especially the legs, and I really hope I can do a good job of them. Thanks again for all the feedback. Brother Nihm
Hey Baldric, The madness never leaves you does it? <_< Your latest piece is every bit as inspiring as your trike and defiler. I suggest adding hanging chains to the limbs. Chains might help cover up any potential errors in the joins (not joints). Plus, chains are fluffy. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/110455-wip-scrapscratch-built-khorne-dreadnought/#findComment-1267477 Share on other sites

Plaguelord Baldric
Thanks again. G'day Brother Nihm, always nice to get feedback from you. Bit of bad news on the defiler front, apparently it doesn't like falling off the table and being stepped on. :whoops: I have managed to repair it though, but it means I have not done anymore than the last time you saw it, sorry. I am taking another break from it, as the accident has me realy frustrated and I don't want to wreck the thing. I am sure I have a ton of old necklace chain lying around somewhere and will definately be using it. I should have some more photos soon. I have done the arm mounts and I'm workng on the new exhausts now.
