WIP scrap/scratch built Khorne Dreadnought

Recommended Posts

Okay, I have done the arm mounts and exhausts. I will be leaving the main body alone for now and move on to the arms. The dread will have 2 Dreadnought CCW's and my aim will be to get the shoulder sections underway first.

Here are some more pics. Do the exhausts look okay?

Damn fine job there friend!

I am inspired now to create... I dunno, something. However, trouble is I play SW, IF & IG so I don't get allotta room to do kick @$$ chaotic conversions like that so much as everyone I command is loyal. Definitely drill out ports on the exhausts though. Depending on what you have in your bits box, I would suggest looking at using maybe some tank wheels for the CCW arm to try & give you the "articulation" points. I made a techmarine's servo-harness outta sprue & spare odd little gear/wheel looking bits. Also, SM bike/Ork hubcaps would help you out on the joints as well.

Possibly for the CCW hand itself you could do like "fingers" w/ two pieces of sprue w/ a cog/gear at the main attachment point to the arm & one in between each length of sprue *shrugs* just a thought, kinda similar to an Ork power claw.

Definitely keep us posted friend. Keep up the good work!

Okay, a small update. The arms have been started. I have done a bit more work than what is pictured, but need to wait for the camera batteries to charge.

Will try and get more of an update soon.

@red_starrise: Just thought I should let you know that I have been requested to build an imperial version of this dread, so I will post pics of that one too. Thanks for listing all those ideas. I have had some of the same sort of ideas, but like the extra input, as there is always some sort of idea I miss.

@dark stalker: I will probably be making chainfist type weapons.

Well, I went down the shops before so I grabbed a couple of batteries for the camera. Here are some pics of where the shoulder/arm is up to. As you can see, the arm is moveable.

So, what do you think so far?

Thanks stimutax67. I am not 100% sure which way I will go with it yet.

Okay, time for some more pics.

A look at the inside of one of the shoulders.

And now for to show the size difference. In the front view, the front of each dread is sitting flush.

Lol, someone here knows what to do with his left over bases and sprues... :P

Some few cuts here and there, and this huge baby slowly takes shape...

Great job, Baldric, it's really impressive !

The only thing that bothers me is the use of lascannons as exhausts... First, I don't find they're bulky enough... And the top part means only one thing: "I'm a lascannon pointing upward.. shooting flying stuff is my goal !".... Maybe you should get rid of these parts and replace them with whatever you want.. melta's cannons may be too small, but some drilled tubing could do the trick I think... (use an old pen, or whatever you can find..)

Anyway, keep it up, I' m really looking forward to see it finished !!

Thanks for all the replies and encouragement, I really appreciate it. This has become my favourite project to work on and all the support just makes it all the more worthwhile.

@Maratheus: You are right, the joints are for Close Combat Weapons, although, I will also be making a Twin-linked Lascannon arm for it.

@The Defiler: Thanks for the indepth reply mate. I agree with you that the Lascannons don't look right, but they are gonna be getting some green stuff work done to them, including bulking out the barrels. The barrels will eventually be one thickness all the way down, with vent holes along the lengths to look more like standard exhausts.

I think I will be concentrating on the legs next to get them in proportion to the dread body and then I should have a better idea how large the CCW's should be.

Thanks again for all the comments, ideas and support. I really appreciate it and hope to keep impressing you with this project.

It's too bad that you didn't have a landraider engine sitting around for the back. That would have looked quite good IMO. How about another update?!

:)

I'm a pirate, are you?

As much as I would like to be working on this at the moment Ganuus, I have a couple of commission jobs I have been asked to finish by the end of the week, so I might not get much of a chance to do any work on the dread for a little while. But rest assured, I will post another update as soon as I can get some more work done on it. :)

Thanks for your intrest. I would have liked to use parts from the LR engine.

Thanks tortoise, I appreciate it. I just hope this dread looks good when it is finished. :(

Anyhow, time for another small update. I have started on the leg section now. Not 100% sure I like it so far, but I think I should proceed a little further before trying something else.

I know it isn't much, but please let me know what you think so far. :nuke:

The leg joints you have added are the standard dreadnaught's "hip-base" aren't they.

My question is if you do it that way (splendid by the way) wouldn't one need to buy two dreadnaught kits to do it.

The usage of sprue parts that you applied is in one word pure perfection,I've never seen something like that, the word recycling doesn't do it justice, this dread looks better than GW's.

Cheers

The leg joints are actually from the defiler kit, and yes, it requires having 2 defiler kits to make it. :tu: I have them left from my spider defiler conversions.

Thanks, I like to impress. The dread is actually looking a lot better than I thought it would.
