Dan your stuff is amazing, Really awe inspiring.

So much so i got a competition coming up on throneofskulls.com and its for a squad. Codex legal and must have the mark of khorne so i decided im going to do a squad of night lords for it as dont reckon anyone would expect it as its normally world eaters that get painted. All i need to do is put some icons of khorne on them and im sorted. Plus the NightLords used to be dedicated to Khorne many moons ago :D

May have to name the champ in your honour

@ Terminatorinhell, Just keep at what you're doing. If the itch becomes overwhelming you can always make a 5 man squad. I've been straining at the leash to try out some different legions.

@ Cavpathfinder, I'm glad you like the result. I found it to be an easy add, the hardest part was taking a dremel to the termi legs that i worked so hard on. I'm glad you like the wraiths too, I'm surprised there isn't more fluff Nazis pounding on my door...

@ Typewriter, thanks for the comments. I've been watching your AL on the Serpents Lair for a while now. I've still got one or two AL units to model up and i'm pretty excited about them. I'll get a pic of the Power Weapon.

@ KhornateKiller, That is too much ;) I'm honored you would consider modeling some of the 8th Legion. I will send your warband some of my most bloodthirsty (and out of control) brothers. Then the fun can truly begin!

Here's a little more work on the Wraith.

Going to have to edit the power weapon in...

Im using your recipe for the colours hope you dont mind. I assume your doing "extreme highlighting"

Will post a pic up if you want show u how getting on :D

Pip of the Wraiths. They are at the same stage in painting even though they look somewhat different.

Thanks for the comments guys. KhornateKiller My best guess would be extreme highlighting. I start from necron abyss and work up to ice bllue. It is only on sharp corners near the top of the model and i don't know if i will continue doing it. Extreme highlighting suggests (as far as i know) that the light source is very near. I'm looking to make my guys a little bit darker but haven't figured that part out yet. I may just bump the colors down in the order of highlights and start darker then necron abyss. When i'm done with the wraiths I've got some marines to try it on.

LordSion The termi shoulder pads are from the Chaos Fantasy Knights. I relied heavily on their bits, using their weapons, shoulder pads, and helmets to give a very ancient/ornate look to the terminator armor. The rest of my marines are more tactically driven, needing extra gear and up to date technology (or in some cases the good old stuff). The terminators on the other hand don't need frag or crack grenades, they don't need extra magazines for ammunition(their bulk drum mags work just fine). Their lethality is tied completely into their suit of armor.

Thanks for looking!

Those two wraiths look really good. The details on the left fellow are great for filling the marine out and completing his appearance. The dryad head marine is my favorite though. Did you build a marine helmet around the dryad or put the dryad head on the marine helmet?

It involved hollowing out whatever I could cut out of the dryad helmet. Then I had to cut the marine helmet from grill to the top of the helmet, into a wedge in which the dryad helmet would mount onto.

So it is a marine helmet, with a dryad faceplate.

Originally when i made the marine on the left he had a different head. I changed it a couple of times since he was first made and I was never really happy with him until this stage. It's funny how your favorite models can change once they start getting some colors. I'm also discovering all sorts of little bits and surprises I don't remember modeling now that I'm painting.

Anyways, I'm excited. B)

Edit* @ Nephilim, i'm glad you like how the tabard wraith came out. The squad is a mix of two themes for the same idea. About half of the wraiths have dryad heads, and the other half are cloaked in some way. The one model higher up in the page Is about the only one between those two ideas. I had a hard time deciding which theme i wanted to express for the idea of the wraiths. I'm glad i ended up using two because each marine has a little more character and they don't look at repetitive.

The cloak from the Wraith on the left is from the Dark Elf corsairs. I made a tutorial a couple of months back that i was using on my Alpha legion. I used a couple of cloaks on the wraiths with the scales cut off. Some found their way into my zerk theme too. Here's the linky

Space Marine Scaled Cloaks

Alpha legion needed some love... I bring you, Hydra's Teeth.

This counts for 12 Alpha Legionnaires i've created so far. They are all of the same unit however they are tasked to different areas of conflict. Currently there are 4 members assigned to Special Recon (obliterators) and 6 to Hydra's Teeth. These last two represent the Alpha Legion leadership. They were modeled after a Long Range Patrol team who rid themselves of any affiliation to their parent legion in case of capture. You may notice the shooter has an inquisitorial shoulderpad... This could either represent inquisitorial approval in extreme circumstances, theft of the armor to fit in, or maybe he was once a member of another chapter? He doesn't talk about it...

And then there's this guy.

Now I heard a rumor that LotR models can't be photographed with conversions to fantasy, or 40k. It sounds about right, but what i'm worried about is disqualification in some events. Any thoughts?

Thanks for looking!

First off, great work so far on your army! Night Lords as they supposed to be. I'm following this thread for a while and your stuff doesn't cease to amaze me. Inspiring stuff for all out here to see.

Haven't heard the rumor about allowing to use LoR with WH or WH40K. But it would be about time for them to pass off that stupid rule. Yeah I know, regulation rights and stuff. Personally I couldn't be botherd with the whole LoR game, but I think they would sell a whole lot of more if "we" were "officially" allowed to use their stuff for conversions etc. C'mon! Balrog screams please convert me, 40K Deamon Princes ain't got nothing on me I'll show them!

Anyway, just keep working on your DP as planned. If you are going official bring a spare just in case. Any organiser from an (unofficial) tournement that wouldn't alow your army should get his/hers head examined.

Keep up the good work!

Cheers,

Vandael

Dan, My Brother

I don't know what to say.

I don't want to be redundant, and say: awesome work, or they kick ar$e, again for the umptenth time. but;

AWESOME WORK, THEY KICK AR$E, YOU RULE! ! ! !.

And, I absolutely love how your painting is coming along. Both the Tactical Squad and the Wraith Squad are looking great.

I feel lucky to have a friend like you, that continues to motivate me in this hobby.

wow it just keeps getting better, i judge anybody who deosnt let you use that!

i love the hydras teeth aswell, the auto cannon is a much better idea than what i had in mind with a heavy bolter and the auto cannon form a sentinal

Now I heard a rumor that LotR models can't be photographed with conversions to fantasy, or 40k. It sounds about right, but what i'm worried about is disqualification in some events. Any thoughts?

As far as I can remember its something to do with the fact that GW doesn't own the copyrights to the LotR stuff like they do WFB and W40K, hence your not sposed to convert LotR minis with W40k and WFB parts. But I'm not completely sure. So for now, I'd say go with it ;)

As one suggested, just bring a spare DP, I don't think many people will complain about it.

Love the models from Alpa Legion, especially the 'Loner'! Silencer.. dude that's awesome :) Don't know why nobody else have thought of that already!

The wraiths come along nicely, really ghostly feel.
