Let me be frank - I really don't like your messy painting(style) - but I really and I mean really do enjoy your modelling and posing of your marines. I find your models very inspiring. So, thanx for the inspiration.

Cheers

Shame on you plastichead! at first glans i thought the same about the painting(style), but i have come to love the "dirty" look of these battered yellow marines... =)

Nice man .. I've been busy and haven't been on the board in a bit. I come back and there are some nice new additions. Really liking the Apoth though I hope your boys have had their tetnis shots haha .. "Um, hey ah... you're going to jab he with that? Nah,. I'm good, see feeling much better now!" :P

Loving the Pred, the complete mixture of bits really fits in with your army and makes it look like they really do get whatever they can whenever they can. I'm also really digging the Thuderfire Cannon.. In my opinion looks better then the actual model. And so much so I might steal the idea for a new project I've been thinking about and because I have 3 of them still in blisters in a box :)

keep it up man ..

Wow! that Techmarine is magnificent :P

I've got to say this thread just gets better and better (if thats even possible). Your 'gritty-well-worn' painting style is fantastic. I really must try it it out for my self some time. Its just so different to the way i usually paint my minis... very inspiring.

Well, not much of an update; sorry. I'm off to Alaska, so I'll be out of contact for at least three to four weeks until I get my new house set up. I'll try to knock out some more stuff when I can, but I'm gonna be awfully busy, lol. Well, take care ladies and gents, see you in a month (or so!)

My humble honest opinion, I think you have a lot of skill but when it comes to weathering and battle damage, less can be more. I feel like your marines are drowning in weathering/battle damage. And it feels like even though you have painted them very skillfully, looking at them from 2-3 feet, they would just look messy.

But over-weathering is the whole idea with the Marines Malevolent. They are a "lost" loyalist chapter. They scavenge, they steal and generally avoid contact with the Imperium. I think that 1000heathens has captured this perfectly.

I and my family have survived the move, as has the majority of my army. Thank you for all your well-wishes, guys! Anyhow, back to the show...

I'm BAAAAAaaaaaack!!! Muhahahahaha!!! Starting the next Tactical squad...

Comments and critisisms welcome, as always! Good to be back, lol.

@SickSix:The severe weathering is very, very intentional, I assure you, good sir. I've explained the reasons many times in this thread, but I am happy to recap:

*Sinp*

As for the paintjob itself, the OTT damage and rust was intentionally unsubtle, as fluff wise, the Marines Malevolent are extremley unsubtle themselves. Quoting from Salamander by Nick Kyme:

'Every suit amongst them, bar none, was patched and chipped...it was armour made to last, not in the sense of its superior forging or exceptionally durable craftmanship; rather, it was battle-plate that had seen hundreds, perhaps thousands, of victories and been strung back together and hammered into shape by any means neccessary in order that it saw another.

'But these warriors were hard-bitten veterans, every single one. They didn't have the forges or the technological mastery of the Salamanders. They were seldom re-supplied or their materiel restocked or replenished. They knew only war, and fought it so relentlessly and without cessation that their equipment was battered almost to destruction.'

I know I may have over done it sometimes, but I really wanted these guys to look like they've been through hell for 2,000 years straight, not just a long campain. It's less that they don't care to clean and repaint their armour, and more that they don't have the time and resources to do anything more than beat the warplate back into place and get back into the fight.

*Snip*

And funny enough, my army actually looks better from 2-3 feet away, lol.

Wasn't that same suggestion made for the Treacheries of the Space Marines artwork by you, lol? I was trying for a cocky, arrogant look for that fella, but I'll try out a few other poses and see what works. Thanks!

And it works, lol. If all your dudes need to be lowered you'll be stuck with one pose across the army. Oh, make sure he doesn't hold his knife down like that, knives are only held down like that when they're being drip-cleaned.

Anyway onto C&C, they're looking good dude. Keep it up. Was looking at your scouts yesterday for a bit of inspiration, do they use Land Speeder Storm scout bits? I was struggling to shamelessly copy some of your guys poses. -_-

Maybe :P

Fair enough, he does pull that off rather well :D

Ok, another dumb DAT nitpick, but that bolter on the first guy should really be lowered, ranged weapons are typically only held like that for the purpose of reloading :(

that pose could also be portraying the after position of non aimed single round snap shot.
