Glory and Hate! A Marines Malevolent Project

A little late happy birthday to your thread. But you forgot another Army shot to show us how much the army had grown. Penance, brother, penance!

As for why Al-Rashid doesn't look like a Sergeant... it's not that he doesn't, in my eyes. He just looks a little silly with those skinny legs. And the way he looks like he's sort of 'strutting', instead of 'assaulting'. :)

Still, paint will help him on his way to glory!

It fits with your army, it's mostly just IMO. Sergeants I tend to view as leaders, not the guys who fight in CC for the squad - however, that's not how you made your army, and if that's the way you like it, then it's your army and your taste ^_^

Also, congrajulations, I've not seen many threads that were continually updated for a year, very impressive :tu:

@-Max-: Thanks! Hey, yours is just a few days older than mine, lol!

@Death given form: PM'ed ya, bro. And thanks for the comments!

@Zincite: If you were rocking a Machete-shaped Chainsword, you'd be strutting too, lol. Honestly, I think a coat of paint will change your opinion, my friend. Thank you for your honest critisism!

@DAT: My army and my taste, yes, but I do greatly value outside opinion. Helps keep things fresh, and keeps me on track, y'know? Also, being in a leadership position myself, normally I'd agree that a leader should stick with leading. Probably why I chose the MM in the first place, because they break almost every rule I've ever learned in the military, lol. Kinda like my 'Dark Side'. The MM NCO's I've always seen as gloryhounds, and there is no better source for glory for the MM than close combat.

I acually coughed up the cash for the BL Games Day Anthology 2011, just for the Marines Malevolent story in it by Nick Kyme. It further reinforced that the MM's like to get 'stuck in' for the sheer carnage and glory, even when they already hold a better position and have the upper hand. Unrestrained hatred, that's why I love these guys. BTW, the story was really, really good, and now I'm hopeful that Mr. Kyme actually makes a MM novel one day. I can hope, right? lol.

Ah man. I lost the link to this back when you were still trying to redecide on your Sternguards.. I had an idea for that and everything.

(the idea was that the squads had no paint left on their fronts at all, so damaged and generally worn down that most of the details were just gone, and that the only way you could tell they were MM's were to see the paint left on the back of them :tu: )

but as for the contest currently on; while the newcomer is clearly a scrapper, the older guy seems more like a duellist, so i think he'd have the skill of 'first blood' down to an art form. my vote is for the cowboy.

Glad it wasn't just me with the legs. I went to the forgeworld site and looked at them, the bodies look a little more tapers as well. I guess it's just suppose to be the differences between Marks ..

The first painted dude looks awesome, he was one of my fav's. The combat knife always makes a dude look hard, "I only need this to end you!" .. plus he's rocking some Sang Guard legs 8)

Looking forward to seeing some more man.

@Brother_Fatiswon: Meh, I honestly perfer the urban rubble look. Plus, it's a bit late in the game to be changing all my bases lol. Thanks anyway, and something I'll keep in mind for my Night Lords project.

might think about simply dry brushing some white-ish grey on your urban-rubble, maybe on a test mini see what kind of contrast/impact it could have...

and happy B-day trend!

Probably. Got any particular plans for these models paint-wise, or just the normal scratched an' scarred?

And as for the criticism, no problem. Always happy to pick on somebody else's models.

This is such an awesome model! Is the gun from an old rhino, with a clip added to it?

And was the knee stepping up hard to accomplish? Would love to try a similar thing.

I wrote a short tutorial for getting legs up like that: linky-dinky

And happy birthday to your thread, heathens!

Awesome, really great tutorial! Thanks cathar the great.

@NemFX: Argh, if only you had voted yesterday, lol. It was a tie until then, my wife had to make the final tiebreaking vote, lol. Al-Rashid is now Sergeant of Tris. Thanks anyway, bro!

@Brother Syth: Good eye, that was an old bolter from a Rhino, with a CSM bolt pistol magazine attached (I thought the straight magazine looked pretty sweet). And yeah, I followed Cathars' tutorial, just stepped it up a notch. If you run into any issues, drop me a PM, and I'd be happy to help. Thanks for the comments!

@SincaiN: Damn FW and their crappy molds, ah well. Thanks for the comments, bro!

@Fatiswon: Promise, I'll give it a shot, lol. Thanks!

@Zincite: Just the usual, trying to keep consistancy across the army. One extra he's getting though is some warhawk teeth, a la rogue trader style. Thus why I chose the beaky helm, lol. Thanks again, brother!

@Cathar: Thanks for the assist (and the awesome tutorial, lol)!

@Danek: I appreciate the kind words man! Love your avatar pic by the way (Brutal vampires and Alaska, what's not to love? lol).

Enter...The 'Thudd'-erfire Cannon! I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, but I got a lot to learn with matte green colors...ah well, it was a good lesson none the less. Next up is it's operator, the Engineer (aka Techmarine). Take care, y'all.

Hero-Captain Anicetius looked about the deck of his dying ship one last time, a sigh passing his lips. His breath coalesed as a freezing mist as it passed from his mouth, the temperature aboard the ship falling faster and faster every second. Soon, the oxygen would be gone too. Most of the Centuria were already within the Dormancy Chambers, their Sus-An Membrane active. Anicetius turned to the last surviving Servitor, it's flesh frost bitten and it's systems already shutting down. "How long again until this ship reaches human-occupied space, wretch?" Anicetius asked. The Servitor stuttered through a ice shrouded vox-caster, binary chittering at first, then actual words. "--Estimated...One Terran Solar year, potentially longer depending on fuel reserve consupmtion and speed of drift--" Anicetius sighed again, already aware of the answer, but not truly willing to accept what he was hearing. A whole Terran year, without campaining against the Emperor's foes...damn near to a death sentence to a Marine Malevolent. Anicetius vented this frustration by slamming his stolen Relic Axe into the servitor, ending it's pathetic existance. He turned towards the bridge door, and began the long trip to the dormancy chambers to join his brothers for the long sleep.

"When I get out of this damned ship, woe betide the filth that first crosses my path"

That's it, guys. I need a break for a while from the boys in yellow and black...my muse is dead as of right now. I'd rather take an extended break from these guys than begin to produce sub-standard minis, and I seriously can't come up with anything good anymore. I will return though, and with a bloody vengance, brothers. Thanks you all for your wonderful support and critiques, you have all helped make me a better painter and modeller, and for that you have my everlasting thanks. Remember, this isn't the end...

...Just Suspended Animation...

As a parting gift, here's the commission drawing I had Brother Melice do for me, now all framed and pretty.

Take care, my friends!

I found myself taking a few months out as well Brother. It would seem my creativity comes in sporadic bursts. Looking forward to your return........have you maybe thought about dabbling with the Dark Gods during your break from the MM? :)
