Black Templar army revival/creations. Grimaldus

Well, I got stuck in and finished some bikes (only 4 ) but its better than my first attempt at the start of this revival. I'm glad I finished them as it tells me I should get them all done, as I'm rather happy with the finished result.

I plan on making 3 full bike units one of them being a command squad.

Squad: Arguliss

Crusade badge on right knee pad, squad marking on banners and left knee pad.

Nice visual concept to do the squad markings and crusade badge on the knees; it doesn't take away from the black.  Very well executed; I'd love to see what a biker command squad looks like in your army.

Oh, another BT army gets a knight, awesome.  What house are you going to do?

Thanks, well depending if I can find a cheap set of unmade bikes to cover a full 10 man squad with all the gubbins then hopefully you will not have to wait long. Had a look at the DA bikes from the last starter set as can find those cheap enough, but the chances of damage removing DA icons is high and a pain to restore.

Long answer... Will probably have it piloted by a member or child of the head of a house that lost everything and everyone, last known survivor of the family to an Ork invasion etc etc. Hooking up with a Black Templar crusade that came to the distress call that with combined forces destroyed the Orks and sent them running. Wanting to avenge her family being wiped out, found a new family amongst the Emperors finest and devoted herself to the Suoirebe Crusade and thus adorned her Knight in BT colours and icons.

Will have some kinda reference to her house as a reminder.

So,, the usual kinda thing to justify a lone Knight with no direct connection to any GW fluff, and fully painted/decorated as a BT unit.

short answer...full Templar jacket!

Thanks Dorns_fist,

I wanted to start on my Knight, but some how another 4 bikes and an attack bike have made its way onto my painting area. Although that may change, can't decide. :s

Honestly, the DV bikers are okay- the robed biker would be a perfect templar model with minor work; but if you want that aesthetic, the ravenwing command box is phenomenal.  The bits in that box alone make it worth purchasing- beakie helmets, fantastic shoulderpads, unique arms and bolt pistols etc (I purchased a box for a reclusiam command squad, and I've used parts on about 6 infantry models since then- with plenty left over).  The only thing is, you'd need to get replacement bike headlight farings and bolters because obviously you can't use plasma talons in a BT army.

Detail removal on both is a slow, delicate process- but if you slip up; fairly easily remedied with sand paper, greenstuff and other tools you're probably used to working with.

Yeah, been checking those kits out. The RW bikes certainly are tempting to get, would keep me busy anyways.

I also got another Knight for my b-day and some cash, so might get those bikers sooner rather than later...

just had a look through the entire thread, very very nice work brother!

I just love the way you are portraying the Templars knightly traits, loads of banners, purity seals, honour badges, whilst not loosing any of the gritty-ness.

Not an easy balance at all, but sympathetically done it looks amazing! not only on the infantry but the vehicles as well. The glowing braziers dotted around are a great little touch too!

And a knight, done this way?

Oh yes!

Progress has been slow since the weekend. Currently suffering from stinking head cold. Fun.

Anyways, when I heard that the knight had a stomp attack there was only one way to model this beast. In a stomp attack with its thunderous foot of DOOM!

Managed to get away with doing to much converting to the pistons and such. Which is good as couldn't find the right size of plastic rod to replace them.

One foot you don't want to be under!

Might have some more pics later tonight, but of the interior that I'm working on. Forgot to say there will be a ork boy under foot with a squashed ork noble towards the back of the base.

C&C welcome as always

Lil update, as there was space for it I wanted to do a cockpit and engine as mentioned above I've been working on the interior. Not as perfect or flashy as others I've seen floating around the internet. Here's mine, engine in the back and just enough room up front to get the job done.

The driver (yet to be named) looks a little messy but should become clear when painted. Used a mix of CW Eldar and DE bits, trimmed down the ears and reposed the hair. Made some control gloves/braces/whatever to use as controls for the arms(much like the things out of the matrix, or like the loader ripley used in aliens, to that affect anyways).

Magnets used to make the top hatch open and close, will also be a greenstuff mold of the window on the inside, cause why not.

That Chaplain on bike could possibly be the most impressive Chaplain on bike I have ever seen..... No, edit that, It is the best Chaplain on bike I have ever seen.

The rest of the bikes look superb too, I love the motion you have captured with all the banners and purity seals.

The Knight Pilot interior is a master stroke.

Your creativity does you credit Brother!

Thanks guys,

ok, so I was making a few adjustments to the weapons and adding non codex ones.

Magnetised assualt cannon in home games or where agreed, normal stubber else where. May make heavy flamer to swap in.

http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh627/EberiousTemplar1/DSC09615_zpsc3f86134.jpg

Inferno/flame storm cannon, or twin heavy flamer covering wider area.

http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh627/EberiousTemplar1/DSC09612_zps3bd0b939.jpg

Haven't completely finished it.

Here's
the reason for the update this evening. I was playing around with and
idea to swap  the current weapon loads. Then a quick mockup of this
combo just made my jaw hit the desk. What's better than a giant machine
of death, ..a giant machine of death with a sword and shield..yes?

What
I'll do is still carry on with the original idea but have it magnetised
so I can swap parts of the base in for large boulders or a dreadnought
of some kind, so the Knight takes a 'hero' pose while staring directly
at us. As we know the arms can come off and on anyways, so changing
between gun and chainsword to shield and sword are easy.

The shield will be way batter then a random bit of plasticard.

Anyways, yes?, no?

  • 2 weeks later...

Lil update time, was going to hold off posting the base till I was more ready but what the hell.

First up though is the inferno cannons, the direction of the last design I was doing was alright but I didn't really like it. Was a bit flat and the riveting would of looked off scale compared to the rest of the model. So. ...pics say more than words.

Base. As mentioned earlier when I found that this model had a stomp attack I had to model it in such an attack, I have lots of movment and poses in my army but nothing actually really stomping on something.

I raised the tiles up around 10-15mm using square plasticard rod to allow me to model the squished ork stomped into the ground, creating a impact crater. Don't know if that is clear in the pics.

First of all: awesome base, I can't wait to see it painted!

Secondly: I suppose you will do some more work on the soon-to-be-stomped Nob? Because now, he seems somewhat unbothered with the giant foot over him. If I were you, I would model something more panicking, like him looking up and screaming, or, in a more orky fashion, firing a shoota into the foot in (futile) resistance. Just food for thought, though. Looks awesome anyway!

Thanks both, and yup Ork pancake...more of a pizza really. lol.

@EPK, the engine block is from the Landraider kit. Cut and fitted into place.

@Brother-Librarian Haegl, the ork Nob was just there in its current state as to show why I have raised the leg. Funnily enough though, your idea is exactly what is going to be happening. Did have the idea of the ork running away or trying to dodge out of the way, might still do it. Will be fixing the knight legs and modeling the ork to the base tonight... probably.

Oh right! The inside part. You can pull that out and still have a fine LR as you can barely see it anyway (my LR doesn't even open as it is). I recognize some of the other control panels and such also from the LR interior. Good use.

Might redo to toe grips, used the craft knife grip to create the chris-cross diamond effect, then poked some damage on them. Not to fussed as they wont really be seen that well unless you are at this angle.

Ork is fixed in place now.
