1 Rhino in 1 day. From re-primed to finished, not bad for me.

The Stormtalon is still being worked on, painted most of it with the first layer of grey highlights(used left over mix from rhinos).

Btw, how did you get those crack lines on the white panels (like on your rhino door just above)??

Just class, sheer class! I like this a lot.

Love this army, you have really captured the feel of a knightly order. Congratulations on winning the ETL challenge too.

Marshal no name has to be my favourite.

So with the ETL done and dusted I can get some building work done. So in the true meaning of the word the 'revival', this LR will be revived as a Spartan LandRaider.

From this..

http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh627/EberiousTemplar1/614cc8fc.jpg

to so far..

Using cardboard cut out templates I made so far for this project(measured with my 4 years olds hello kitty ruler, how awesomely spacemarine is that, :) ). I wanted the heavy bolters to be able to point up as on a normal LR, cause I'm fussy like that. Now I have the tricky bits around the HB mount to cut out.

http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh627/EberiousTemplar1/cb09fd48.jpg

I wanted to have the tracks extended to look similar to the FW spartan. So "carefully" removed the tracks with a screwdriver. SOme of the track section were a bit broken but upon a look in my bits area I came across two sprues that had full LR trcks, lucky huh. So this is what I did with them. There will be armoured housing/frag launchers down the front tracks, there will reinforced armour along the sides as well.

http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh627/EberiousTemplar1/e50f47c8.jpg

Needed to build track housing due to extending the tracks.

http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh627/EberiousTemplar1/332967a1.jpg

Not sure if the assualt ramp should just be modeled shut, would be a bit of work to get it to open and close. I have the parts but I think its more of an, can I be bothered.

http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh627/EberiousTemplar1/cce1222a.jpg

C&C welcome

Thanks very much The Yak, I honestly didnt know what to call him. So the "no'name" for having no name for him kinda stuck. And thanks for the congrats regarding the ETL.

Thanks vfery much both,

@DarkAngelDelight: The black is done over a few different layers. I started off with choas black primer, then a kinda dry/wet brush a darkish grey enough to tell the difference between the black and grey, I mainly focus on the edges. Then the same dry/wet brush technique with a lighter grey, closer again to the edges. After that I used a very dark grey wash(almost black, but enough grey to take the jet black edge off). Started off with a some what watery wash, thickening it up with each layer as it got closer to the areas I wanted darker. Once all the detail work was done I then dry brushed bleached bone to pick up the edges

@Honda. Thanks, its progressed well. Basically I've got the front to the back all done with a few details inbetween to fill in build up. I'm going to chest on the side armour and bought myself the FW reinforced armour today. So will be midweek before I get those, as bank holiday weekend here in UK. Got the pintle mounted weapons(heavy bolter and multi-melta) made and magnisted tonight.

Working on the gaps in the back & top section and a HK missile then will probably post some progress pics. Most likley tomorrow.

Need some help here form anyone, can anyone confirm exactly what the laser destroyers look like. As I do a google search and the only things the search comes back with are those quad cannons on tracks from FW. They look like lass-cannons to me??? As I would of thought they looked more like the ThunderHawks/titan turbo lasers?

Thanks for any help anyone can give on that.

Thanks vrey much Mr.Malevolent.

Well, a few rivets and filling to do while I wait for the FW armour kit to arrive. So heres some pics for the time being.

Back:

http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh627/...r1/ca56815b.jpg

I extended the back end about 4cm, so where you see the HK missile, its sitting on top of where the vents are on the original model. So with the extension I had to build up the back end and box the engine in.

http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh627/EberiousTemplar1/01b4dcba.jpg

Top hatch/weapon options.

And you will notice it now has a HK missile where the little burner I made was.

No one like my tank :( lol.

till waiting on the FW kit to come which is fine, as it'll give me a chance to start on the next part of the army. I havent run a shooty crusader squad since the C:BT came out, mixed yes but never a full unit of guns.

So I thought I'd dedicate 3 squads to shootyness with all the options I'm likley to use. So thats 17 men per squad, thats 51 model initiates to strip down, remove from bases, replace badly painted parts and a general upgrade to new BT bling and new scenic bases rather than the plain plastic or badly covered flock ones.

Here is a group shot and a ;) tonne of bits to get them all fancy looking.

And for the hell f it, this is what my fisrt painted marine for my Black Templar army looked like. Many, many years ago,

It hurts no one has commented, :nuke: I shall Crusade you all into oblivion. lol. Seriously though, it hurts.

So like the update says, with the shooty units restorement on hold I've almost finished this project. Building wise anyways. Work left to be done is as follows, a banner at the back. Currently trying my hand at a large-ish scale(for me) greenstuff banner. As I normally do filling gaps/small greestuff things. Then topping off the Promethus pattern heavy bolter sposons with the all important targeters and some BT bling. I know, cant legally use em, not in GW/LGS/ and other official game play anyways. But thats why game rooms were invented in ones house.

Anyways, piccy time. So from this in the other post(just added it here for quick refference.

Been play testing it a little with the HB's sposons, the standard one and the pintle mounted one, and found its good..very good at dealing with ork foot squads, and glancing the holy Emperor outta stuff. As you would expect with that much dakka.

And a size comparison to a standard LR:

I've said it before in your BT forum thread a few times probably (but hey, you said no one comments - and I know the feeling!), but looking at your models still makes me depressed B) The dark gray is so different to the usual black basecoat + gray highlights method, and looks very nice and in your case weathered. Now, while as a rule I generally prefer to have only mild weathering or so, the same dark gray method would still work even with a less weathered look. Just not with my skills.

I suppose that it would be possible to "upgrade" my models later, keeping the details like metallic parts etc as is, just working on the black base to make it more like yours... but I can't even venture a guess how many million years it'd get for me to get to that level, if ever. It's also probably trickier for vehicles, since it'd probably be better to do it with an airbrush, making it harder to protect areas I don't want to paint over. I have a Razorback waiting for paint and I've been considering a grayer look... but probably can't pull it off, not to mention it would look "off" compared to the rest of my crusade so far!

But what are your thoughts on this, that is, "upgrading" black + highlights to your method, reasonably doable later on without any stripping?

That aside, about your Land Raider... well, it's an interesting Spartan conversion, and indeed well done. But purely from a form factor point of view, I must say I prefer the original. Obviously not your fault given the Spartan is an existing design, though :cuss

Thanks very much all

@keith, do it, give in the Crusader in you. A new Crusader is always welcome.

@tvih, Thanks very much for that reply. the way I paint the black is easier on tanks, but it does make painting the marines easier than the way I used to. You shouldnt need to strip anything unless the paint is waaay to think as it is. Many of my models had thier base coat plus the old way I sued to paint, I primed them again and painted on top.

I like the FW one as well and understand your comment, but I couldnt justify £90-95 plus shipping for it. I also wanted to revive one of my LR as well rather than leave it to ruin, so this was a good oppertuinity to do just what this project is about. Think it has to be my most plasticard work(to completion) I've done..ever.

@Razblood, I wouldnt have it any other way.

Well I was actually referring more to Spartan vs standard LR rather than your Spartan LR vs FW Spartan LR... I'm not sure if I actually have a definite preference in the latter case given how nicely your conversion turned out!

And I know what you mean with the price. I wouldn't want a Spartan personally, but an Achilles would be kinda cool (and being an IF+successors thing, reasonably fluffy for Templars)... however, even though it's "only" £65 (80€), that's quite a bit indeed compared to the 43€ with which I could get a normal LR or Crusader/Redeemer but even still can't afford one right now!

I see, I now re-understand lol.

I know right!, why is this plastic crack so damn expensive!. Luckly I got a higher paid job within the company I work, so free funds are coming back slowly.

Achilles would be cool to have, I like pretty much everything on it. But again something I'm likley to convert. As thats what i do, all fingers and thumbs, or master of the forge as some would say. With this recent job turing out so well(mainly due to being measured with a ruler then cut out, I might just attempt a Acilles LR in a little while. Got some long over due promises to make good on over on the BT section first.

Thanks very much Glaeken Templaris, might be a little while before it sees paint. Hopefully not to long.

Building finished, can't think of anything else to go it so not to make it to over crowed with stuff. The banner comes off, sits nice and tight(so no magnets, yay!) inside another plastic tube thats fixed to the top. So no transprot issues with the banner breaking off.. etc.

Just updateing my project threads,

MOS, painted for the Choas challange.

Some remodeling and a pint job, a right arm change of position, and a head swap. Made this guy, some years ago now and used a chaos zerker head with the "rabbit ears"(thats what they are called right, or at least folks refer to them as that??) cut off. Never thought it looked quite right so popped it off and stuck in a bare head, that didnt quite fit the MOS feel, more of a marshal, so popped that off and stuck this one in. I'm happy with the final result.

http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh627/...r1/DSC08780.jpg

Oh, also tried my hand at some detail greenstuffing, and stuck with it till I had something looking like a skull.

http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/hh627/...r1/DSC08764.jpg

The arm change demanded blood and a slight manly tear. Its not red paint. Damn knife went right in, pic was few moments after cleaning it for the 3rd time. Totally worth it, the model looks much better than the way it did.
