Then a dry brush of bleached bone to pick up extreme highlights.

Oh, was going to ask for feed back on the "crown" style things on theMarshals helmet. I thought it gacve it a very medieval/crusader king feel. Thoughts?

Bleached bone....hm. I'll have to make a note of that. I'm sure one of my boys wouldn't mind being a guinea pig. And if he does, he's plastic, what's he gonna do about it? Nothing! That's what!

Anyway, I rather like the crown, and was wondering what you used to make it, but figured it was something I'd have to go through hell to get my hands on like those kneepads for your Seth :P.

The crown is made from the old skull with crown for empire knights shelids.

http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/...dId=prod1290058

Was going to have the crown part down each side but settled for across the front, mainly because I could only find one of of the crowned skulls. However had to cut it into 3 parts file it into shape to it sat a little more flush with the flow of the helmet. The I greenstuffed a "band" to link them tgether.

The knee pads for seth do seem to be somewhat rare. All the bits sites I go to in the Uk are out and never seem top have them. ;)

As said, distraced by new project long wanted to do one and that I got the go ahead to play home games with this pattern dread I made it. Got a ven dread kit as a birthday present, so got to work almost straight away. I feel like a little story to welcome this addition to the collection. I'm not the best at story writing so here goes.

Story goes, last of the squad and BT detachment left after a Ork waaagh, Sword brethern Vorenthan in TDA dealt multiple wounds to the warboss with his lightning claws as the Ork crushed him with his power klaw. The warboss now dead the orks scampered. The sword bretheren was unable to move due to being pinned under the warboss and the crippling injuries made it impossible to move. The SB was forced to breath in the foul stench of the greenskin filth, its blood desercrated his sacred armour, parchments and crusader seals for many hours untill the rest of the crusade made it to the location to retrive any surviours and the imperial civilians they were protecting.

~ In the SB's actions he saved hundreds of imperial lives, killed the foul greenskins warboss plus countless lesser orks, for this he was highly honoured and was offered peace by the crusades apothecarys, but refused it and demanded to fight on. Giving the injuries sustained that was impossible the honour of being implanted in a dreadnought was granted. After he was placed in a statis feild he was moved to the strike crusier in orbit and they set route to one of the chapters main keeps.

~ Now, hundreds of years later he returns to duty. Giving the sword bretherns fighting style and close combat battle experience they adapted the only available dreadnought at the time to best accomadate this veterans experience. Thus the Durandal(furioso) pattern dreadnought was born.

Called it a Durandal pattern dreadnought as sounds cool enough and that pattern already exsists, and can't think of anything else right now.

Never really made sense to me on a furioso to have the guns on the underarm. He will be doing a lot of smashing and at some point the guns are going to get damaged enough to stop working and fall off. So I built them into the main body. Was going to give him a banner up top but it distracted to much away from the model and the lantern. Also gave him a grapple in the right fist.

Everything in this thread is looking VERY nice and I really like the flattened boy. I like the fact you put it at the back of the base,

It makes me think of how the dread would just keep moving on without thinking about it.

Hate...you...so...much! B)

The more you make stuff like this, the harder I'm gonna have to work when I finally get back home to my Templars in the summer. Your bitz bin alone would keep me busy for weeks.

Anyway, yeah, great job....jerk. :P

I'm gonna steal so many ideas of that dread (if it's okay with you of course ^^)

- Shoulder pads on the thighs - awesome and give a lot of bulk to the legs

- Terminator head - works surprisingly great inside the venerable dread sarcophagus

- Underslung weapons - seen before, but I'm finally convinced to try it out

*digs out old, unfinished dread*

*tears it apart and starts building again*

@Scathainn, thats excactly what I was going for, thanks.

@Firepower, :D . and thanks. However my bits bins would probably keep you busy for a month or two. Got 18 years worth of bits, not to mention the monlthy supply of gubbins I get online. Might start selling some, as just not going to use some bits..ever. But I'm a horder, so probably not.

@cathar the great, thanks, steal away. No need to ask, I'm glad you like it enough to take ideas.

I like to adorn my dreads with the heros past suit of armour. Most of the time the last suit of armour is usually beyond repair, giving the need to be inplanted in to a dread(if so honoured). So I tend to hang chest plates, shoulder pads..etc. I think it adds a little personality to the machine of DOOM! to represent the actualy SM he was and still is. Keeping in with the fact hes a Terminator hero, I wanted to use the head from one. Popped it in there and bang, instant awesomeness(IMO) and personality I wanted him to have. I did try an inclosed top with veiw slit but didnt flow with the rest of the model.

The underslung weapons on the arms are good but for a CC dread, I think they are just going to get in the damn way. You can't see it to well, but built a whole gun system along side of the torso, so you got all the workings you would see on the standard gun itself. Should be more present once painted.

Thanks again all, need to get some painting done.

Ok, so another legally unplayable project underway as far as GW and other official events would go. Always thought that a primaraly CC focused army would have ground assualt boats. A cheap tank, able to carry a 10 man squad into battle, right into the front lines. Yes we have the LRC, heavily armoured and armed, we have our 10 man transports in the form of rhinos with two side ramps and a BACK RAMP!.

So, came across a few rhinos still on the sprues. So decided to take one and make me a little assualt rhino. Able to carry the same amount of troops, increased armour (by adding vindicator armour), and a front assualt ramp. So in home game terms, a front AV 13, back AV12/11 rhino that has a assualt ramp so my BT's can disembark and charge.

There will be a main weapon, TL H-Bolter, or single A-cannon and frag launchers like the LRC, smokes and search light. Was going to use the huricane bolters off the stormraven. But didnt want to damage the raven getting them off, and want to keep to bits I already have(so no spending more cash) ;) .

Anyways, enough blab, here's the first few shots of anything worth while.

http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x370/EberiousTemplar/DSC07464.jpg

Had to remove part of the seats to get that control/door bulkhead far enough back. As it didnt look as if it could hold ten men being so far forward. 2 craft knife blades and my fav file died making this possible(I had stuck down the top part then realised I needed in abouts to cut the space out, and the top wasnt coming off without serious damage happening). May they rest in bits.

http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x370/EberiousTemplar/DSC07459.jpg

Now this part will be on the front, in line with the ramp. So when the ramp closes it should be flush and sit nicely in. So lets hope my plans for a working door suceeds.

Well here are my first lot of meat shields..oh wait I mean Neophytes to join my crusader squad. A few quick chops and converted to running Neophytes. Can't stand SM scout heads, as they all look like bone heads and clones. Faces are to alike so used other heads which I think worked out nicely.

This one here looks like hes standing on that ruined building section, he i in fact standing on somthing at the back of the base. Rhino hatch weapon platform I belive.

Watered down "mud" with tiny bit of GW choas black to get a darker shade of brown.

What? No mock up shots with the front closed? .... hint hint

I like this idea. You could always use it in apocalypse or in a normal game if the person you're playing is nice enough. It'd be cool if used in apocalypse. People seem to think more about biiiiiiig vehicles and datasheets for them in APOC but a little thing like this would prove useful.

I think it might be worth making the back of the assault rhino squared to balance it out a little. It would look a little more like there could be an engine in the back then.

you might also want to think about moving any hatches to the back of the rhino where the driver section now is. seeing as it was previously over the driver and not over the troop compartment.

Aye, the top section is far from started. I gots me a plan for that top area. I did remember to take pics of what you said about the front part, then totaly forgot. realised when I was posting. However I would have to hold it in place, my fingers will be blocking lOS so wont see much. Was thinking either the LR engine block or just general armor plates. Maybe with a back hatch/door for the driver. Edited by Eberious

Thanks very much blackbabyjesus. I think its one of the best dreads I've ever made, so will have to take my time painting it.

Small update. Got the assualt ramp on. Moved the fixings for the door axel around the front, with that and the width between the two points the ramp is stiff enough to stay in the upright position. That sounds SOooo wrong. So hopefully once the front of it is built up around it will stay closed without falling open all the time, or at all unless opened by myself.

http://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x370/EberiousTemplar/DSC07465.jpg

Did take some shots with the top bit balanced on top to give an idea of what the front part will look like, but it doesnt look right, just now. Need to shorten it down.

Ok, so not 100% completed on the modeling side but enough to post how it will look. Few things left to do is the heavybolter on the top hatch, the pintle will be more heavy duty, and need to join some armour section together, but thats pretty much it. Oh, and greenstuff up the side of the frag launchers.

Now, I can't really call it a Rhino anymore, so still thinking of a name for it. But an assualt tank of some kind. Anyways, small list of stuff its got. Would of used huricane bolters, but have none available. If I get my hands on some I might swap the Hb out for the HuricaneB.

3 heavy bolters
frag launchers
assualt ramp
And normal upgrades for tanks etc.

Oh, just had a chat to my mate and hes got the huricane boltyers spare, so the side weapons will probably change. Mostly for in game playing. As other wise this was for pure enjoyment.

I like Destrier as the name for the pattern type, I also like battletoad. Not sure if it will kick enough ass to be named after Chuck Norris. Cheers FP, always there with the names.

So yeah, God DAMN that Dreadnought is cool! :D And so is the Battletoad for that matter!
