New FAQ!on gw website!

I am stunned. STUNNED that GW has had a lucid moment of clarity and reversed themselves on the Dark Angels codex and have attempted to bring it more in line with the current Space Marine Codex.

I'll have to reach up on the top shelf, blow the dust off, and actually field a proper Dark Angels army! All those extra bits I ordered to flesh it out to a fully converted force... I can now start work on it again!

Dare I hope, that at some point in the future, my DA Land Raider Redeemer will be legal?!?!

Do I look even further and see my Mortus Pattern Dreadnought placed on the table again? Or even, <voice drops to a whisper> a Librarian Dreadnought?

Surely I step too far beyond the bounds of possibility. GW would never go that far. But then again, GW has surprised all the old Dark Angels players with this update out of the blue. Maybe I won't pine so much for my Redeemer if we get the rumored Storm Raven...

STUNNED!!!

So, what are going to be the new lists? Can someone post some examples of what they think the new deathwing, ravenwing, and doublewing lists will look?

Basically your going to see much of what the problem was before. Only 90% of the entire chapter is going to be left in the box, and just DW will be used. Or if RW and/or GW are used it will simply to aid DW in getting there quicker or safer

Probably the same list, but different tactics. Before yesterday, I would avoid getting my RAS in CC, and would only spend the points on either Standard Bearer or Apothecary, never both of them. Now, taking both Standard Bearer and Apothecary is a viable option.

Same goes to Deathwing Terminators. I never took the TH/SS route because I know they'll just get shot to pieces, but now foot-slogging TH/SS Deathwing Terminators (with Apothecary) as shooting magnet seems like a good idea.

Venerable Dreadnought will get less attention now because of the new Smoke Launcher rule. They are now suckier than other 5E Venerable Dreadnoughts.

Hah! I now have an excuse to start an actual first company army. I've been so lost after completing a Battle Company... :D

But now I can collect a moderately competitive first company army not composed of howling savages. Congrats ye unfforgiven greenies(or should that be bleached boneys). :D

^^^ thats why you save the points and just take a normal dread :D

I had quite a success with my Drop Pod-ing venerable dreadnought. With extra armour, heavy flamer and assault cannon, it was too menacing to be ignored, and the old smoke launcher rule made sure that it'll get into CC in it's next turn. It died to a lascannon once, but survived half-range meltas countless of times. It was nigh indestructible.

Now, if GW were to update their stats...

You know... this practically does mean us and Black Templars probably won't get a codex for a while too.

1500:

Belial - 130

Interrogator-Chaplain in Terminator Armor

Deathwing Squad - 4x TH&SS, 1x CF/Cyclone, Apothecary - 275

Deathwing Squad - 4x TH&SS, 1x CF/Cyclone - 240

Deathwing Squad - 4x TH&SS, 1x CF/Cyclone - 240

Deathwing Squad - 4x TH&SS, 1x CF/Cyclone - 240

Deathwing Squad - 4x TH&SS, 1x CF/Cyclone - 240

27 Terminators!

Maximises TH&SS AND Cyclone, what do you guys think? I think this would capitalize best on changes.

Is that many TH+SS really necessary? Most armies aren't packing so much low AP weaponry to need more than a 2-3 a squad. Wouldn't we still want some lightning claws for more attacks and higher initiative? Remember, only the apoth's squad is better at surviving torrents of fire. Plenty of armies don't even use low AP as their anti terminator. Lots just overwhelm with small arms fire. 5 terminators is the same to small arms as 10 power armored marines, remember.
FINALLY. Someone got some sense at GW. I've had Dark Angels since 1990 when I had the old beakie marines painted white as Deathwing. I wonder what they did with jervis while they brought this out. Did they lock him in a cell so he couldn't hit the Dark Angels with the nerf bat? I hope this is a sign of things to come in the future codex: that he has NOTHING to do with it. For the Lion! For the First Legion!

I think you will see this list come up quite often after this FAQ, i plan to build up more th/ss terminators to run something similar myself. I would use an librarian instead of chaplain but that is not so important would also get the banner in there instead of the chain fists.

Just played 1850 Raven Death vs Alpha Legion,

Belial/4xTHSS/1xTLC in Crusader made my day, killed Lordw/-MoS Daemon-weapon on bike, 5xMoN Bikers, 2x Obliterators, Tac Sqd, took 4 plasma cannon hits and a bunch of other stuff, lost ONE dude the TLC fella(probably wouldn't have lost him if I had another THSS model to swap him out. MVP sqd by far.

BTW got a draw because he contested with an empty Rhino that moved 12" at the end.

Awesome game so much fun to be using my own codex again, feel honest and clean

I like GW again, first time in a while.

What about this for spam,

31 Termies Vindies more shooty than cyclones, IMHO.

DW assault, not die, wait one turn, kill everything, repeat

probably get a 0 for Comp scores but meh

I think the issue that will run into is that if you deepstike all your termies, you may never catch your opponent, which is why the cyclone helps quite a bit as it makes you a threat at range. Also, if you are close you your opponent I am not a big fav of vindies, sure you ave a 3++ save, but that does not mean you want to have to take them during your shooting phase. Also that list will make you want to DS close to the opponent meaning mishaps are more likely.

Not adding a 20 point cyclone to a th/ss squad is just stupid, it add up to quite allot of firepower with no drawback, since you don't have to sacrifice weapons to include one.

12 mobile missile shots fireing on 6 different targets is way better then one vindicator that cost the same

I don't think TH&SS spam is all that great. I find the storm bolters very useful. A mech/fast opponent can outrun footslogging terminators and still do some damage back... terminators may get the 3++, but massed firepower will still take them down.

IMHO with this FAQ we should look into sinergy instead of spamming whatever had a FAQ boost.

I agree with you Lucifer though I'm more encline to mix LC's with TH/SS.

Strike strong but last is not always a good deal and with the LC's you gain +1A and a re-rollable S4 is enough to kill most opposition.

I see TH/SS more as a protection for the rest of the squad and a CC tank killing option but no need to have every member with such wargear.

I don't think TH&SS spam is all that great.

Signed. I think alos that is the big solution of all of our problems.

In my meta the most marine players walk from hammernator to the normal ones because the "Tacticals" are more flexible. But to have one TH/SS heavy squad (DW command sqaud?) I think will be sufficient.

Yeah but vanilla can't have heavy weapons in their TH squads...
