Stobz'z Legends.... Hello Darkness, my old friend...

Whilst waiting for my base to dry I thought I'd add a coupla pics of Sammy with his sword redone.

I redid it in four different techniques before I was happy, I think this one is the keeper:

Next instalment will be the DW Ven-Dread from my PtR vow.

I'm not digging the lighting requirements for pics with this background, It's doing my head in how much little changes make to it. These pics look washed out compared to IRL, wonder what I'm doing wrong?

Ho Hum

Morning Guys,

Thanks for the props.

Shabbz, blame The Shadow Guard, he and all the other painting projects keep me from it ;) I do take a little responsibility as I'm really enjoying getting my other units done :P

Stobz, baby - this is the best black sword I've seen! Excellent energy effects while retaining the overall blackness! Congratulations are in order... Oh, and blaming SG is always good tactic - it's his fault! :D

Now about those capes.... :D

Thanks, guys, I can only lurk a bit today, work actually has me working :D

Final Recipe:

1- Black.

2- Black ink (or varnish to get gloss).

3- 1mm-ish Ice Blue edges and lightning.

4- White super edging lines within the blue edges and squigly lines within the bounds of the blue lightning (you want a bit of the blue to show).

5- White wash (80% water) around the lightning and end of sword to create 'glow' and space, wet blend a bit as you go.

6- Redo White lightening as fine as you can

7- 50/50 water/Black to fix errors with 'glow' and shape the forks by going up the outside of each edge of the forks (Ultrafine)

8- I forgot to re-gloss varnish it, I will do that tonight.

And one with Julius and a touched up Venerable Brother Jakob together:

Might need a couple of touch ups that can only be seen blown up on screen, but I am a happy camper to have him done.

Shooty arms are magnetised, option for an extra PC is there for Julius if I want.

Heh heh heh; camera angle is too low to show his eyes, too bad

Sorry to rain on your parade, but the lettereing should read " In Alae Mortis" . But even that doesn't detract from the awesomeness of the dread.

Amazing pair of dreads there.

Also loving Sammael. It staggers me that I have never gotten round to picking up either of these miniatures.

Keep it up Stobz, we want more!

Cheers,

WW

Damn your eyes, Sir! You've finshed Sammael while he's still half completed on my paint table, and now you've gone and done a Venerable Dread while I've just got mine out of its box for once I've finished my Company Master.......I must insist that you submit a painting schedule to me to prevent any more of this stealing of the initiative! ;)

I'm very jealous of the paint scheme though, very nicely done, and great base too - I love the lone bolter lying on the floor!

Oh, and very well taken photos too - everyone always compliments the painting, but seldom reflects on a well taken photo. :cuss

Morning, thanks Brothers.

Isiah: yep, the process for you and anyone else interested is; modelling clay smunched onto base (don't glue until dry due to shrinkage), cork bits from wine bottle chopped with bread knife (for roughness), paint base colours, add battlefield broken stuff, pva sand on, dry, heavy wash dark brown to seal, dry, paint.

fmp: My eyes!!! I'm blind!!! Damn your damning, now you will have to come and take my models away, you should probably pay my mortgage too. Cheers, at least you won't get beaten to some imaginary mark any more :P

As to a schedule; my Dec vow will be cheeky and minimal, I really need to show some love to my extended family through the festive time but stay tuned...

These are beyond fantastic Stobz! You've mastered the white to a degree that is unfair! It... They are so beautiful... :whistling:

Send them to GW! I'm certain they'll put them up in their site!

At least Bryan tries to keep me honest ;)

Thanks men, and thanks to Elmo for showing me the way to be brave with white weathering. :tu:

I need to do a moderisation of my DW squads now, just so they link visually.

I guess I have just found my Dec vow...

Snip - and thanks to Elmo for showing me the way to be brave with white weathering. ;)

I need to do a moderisation of my DW squads now, just so they link visually.

You rat you - I was gonna do that!

Seriously you're very welcome - I may have shown you the way but you have surpassed me my young Padawan ;)

I am also going to go back and revisit my DW - the initial 4 squads need bringing up to my ETL squad standard and magnetising and I really should do this before I start another new project!

We can do tag-team DW :tu:

I thought so too, but I just copied that from page 58 of the dex, ho hum. Too late now ;)

Cheers for the kind words

On that page it is Alae they just do weird florish accents on letters. It makes it look like a k.

Fair enough, it looks like a k, it smells like a k, it tastes like a k, but it is an L.

Mine too ;)

Edit: Sorry, that sounded much more arrogant than I intended :tu:

I may revisit that bit in time for next months photo sesh. Cheers for the advice Harlie.

Apart from in the 2nd Ed book, are there any larger versions? My search fu is weak.
