So been pretty busy lately with work but I’ve also been painting. A lot. For me anyway. Managed to get my army mostly painted for the tournament I was attending at the weekend. It was hosted by Stirling Wargamers which is Insane Psycopaths local club.

The Chaos Marines I was still painting these guys and their rhino the night before. These guys will be finished this week.

Berserkers

Again, some details need finishing and then I’ll be adding the snow to their bases.

So Rapid Fire was a 2 day event with 5 games over the weekend, I had a great time and enjoyed every single one of my battles. Didn’t get a whole lot of pictures but did try and grab a few of the funniest moments

I took some pics of the tables before the event started on Saturday morning as they all looked great and really added to the themes of the battles.

Here’s my army laid out as well,

Game 1 against Ad Mech, I only really got the one pic when my melta Terminators charged a Knight and kept it in combat until game end. Didn’t quite manage to kill it though :(

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n235/Stovie_2006/Biohazards%20Worldeaters/ACC02F5A-B139-4616-8B7B-56C49732E638.jpg

Game 2 was against Ultramarines. I can’t exactly remember how it came about but my Lord ended up alone in the middle of the battlefield in full view of the enemies gunline which included a Spartan, a LandRaider and a Repulsor which puts out a disgusting amount of shots. Needless to say it wasn’t long before Malek Deimos was just a read smear on the field :D

Berserker vs Land Raider was fun too

Game 3 was against some Space Wolves, another great game another glorious Death for Deimos :)

Game 4 was against Dark Angels and had a lot of really good combats Terminators vs Deathwing Knights didn’t go too well for me, although I did get revenge against Belial

And yet another glorious death for Deimos

Game 5 was against a proper Ad Mech gunline most of my transports we’re popped in the first couple of turns which left me footslogging so at a proper disadvantage. Was still a really fun game my saves were brutal and my opponents shooting was crazy accurate. :)

So because of my tactical genius over the weekend I earned the highest award

The wooden spoon is given to the last place player :D I got that and some quick shade as I need to paint a new army quickly apparently haha

Yeah there’s a Helbrutes head and a couple of Chaos warrior heads in that squad. I see some of them have spun on their pins so they’re not quite facing the right way but I can fix that.

Darkhoras, thanks buddy.

So I forgot to add pics to my Call of Chaos Vow.

This year I’ve vowed

1 Kytan Ravager

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n235/Stovie_2006/Biohazards%20Worldeaters/35F7360F-9EE6-41B2-BF54-7D07E44172A0.jpg

1 Dreadclaw

And a Leviathan Siege Dread that I’m converting from a Redemptor.

http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n235/Stovie_2006/Biohazards%20Worldeaters/85569271-8992-4684-B5AF-5FB4DC23CC00.jpg

With the tournament prep taking a lot of my time I’ve only managed to start building the Siege Dreadnought.

Here’s how it’s looking so far. There’s still a lot of detail to be added. I just wanted to get the pose sorted first.

Mocked up a Butcher Cannon as well thanks to some parts from SystemSyn. Still have to reattach the ammo feeds

Still a little unsure how I’m going to build his Claw. I’ll figure something out though.

Really liking you're csm and bez squads, they look great! Shame they didnt fare to well at your tourney, would have thought Khorne would do well in close combat, but they seemed to get beat by the loyalists =/

That seige dread looks epic so far, look forward to seeing how it comes on. Do you think the dread claw is worth its points? if so how do you intend to use it?

That. Is. Awesome!

Seriously, wow - you've made me really like a model I don't like at all. Very cool. One suggestion though - have you thought about adding a crown of horns to the skull?

I remember this book cover from my childhood, and always found it cool/evil looking:

Edit: Oh, another idea, if you don't mind; if you add some eyebrows to the skull with a tiny bit of green stuff, it gives a much more evil look. I've made a mockup here:

There's nothing wrong with it as is, it looks more tortured and screaming, both are cool - just an idea. :)

Sagentus, the Berserkers deleted any unit they made it into combat with, problem was getting them there. Haha. Had a brutal battle against a unit of Wulfen, I charged in, wiped out the squad but they get to hit back when they die! Bye bye Zerkers haha.

As for the Dreadclaw I want to try and use it as a surprise drop type thing. As for actual tactics my wooden spoon should give you all you need to know about my tactical prowess :D

Chaplain Dosjetka, Marius Perdo and Juggernut, thanks guys. It needs a lot of tidying up but it’ll get there :)

Guitarasmus, happy to hear I’ve changed your mind about the model. I really wasn’t sure about it and the weak looking ankles still bug me to be honest. I’m thinking of breaking out the GS and trying to emulate the FW leviathans leg armour but not too confident on that one yet. I think I may have a quick fix solution for now though, especially from the front.

Really like the suggestion for the skull, the crown of horns could look cool and I will definitely look into that, the eyebrows is something I was definitely going to attempt. The wicked looking skull is a big part of my reason for building him. ;) the main inspiration for this guy comes from a really old piece of art that I’ve never been able to find out the artists name. It was in an old White Dwarf way back in the mid 90’s. I’ve always loved this piece and it’s up there with the Berserker from the Codex Imperialis and the Khorne Terminator from white dwarf 192 I think. Just these are the kinds of elements I’d like to have in my army. Here’s the pic

So I worked a little more on the big guy tonight. Trying to retain the feel of the artwork but with the weapons I’ll be using. The head isn’t in its final place, it has a long way to go as well. I’ve been planning on drilling out the eye sockets and adding in couple of small ‘eye’ optics. Just think they’ll look better than the skulls within skulls within skulls :D

Obviously the legs are still needing a lot of work.

Wow, you're on fire tonight! Great progress on the dread - I agree about the eyes, they need some kind of optics, but how about taking a cue from the artwork and just roll up some tiny balls of greenstuff, place them in the sockets, and paint them up with a glow effect? Are the trims from Subtle Discords trim kits? As for the claw - does it need to look like the artwork or just a cool claw?

I remember that pic from the 2nd ed. Chaos Codex - and it's still awesome. I can help you with the artists name - it's the awesome Des Hanley, who has done A LOT of artwork for GW - look him up - he has done some amazing stuff. Always loved him and Mark Gibbons chaos stuff. If you don't have it, try to source the 2nd ed Chaos Codex - it should be pretty cheap on ebay, and there's some great artwork in there.
