Thanks that means alot, It also might be enough motavation for me to do some painting again.

 

I thought the same thing about the spikes. A Chaos legion of 10,000 years or more would have some really messed up stuff. A chapter like the Astral claws recently turning renegade would be more modern, more advanced, more marine. 

 

Is Gildar Rift a good read?

 

 I love how the icon turned out. It took forever to cut one out. My original plan was to cut each of them out. but after the first one I said forget that... I'll just cast this one.

 

Best tip is a good supply of band aids. I must cut my self many times.

I drew the design on paper the glued it onto plasticard  then followed the outline.

Another tip would be get someone else to do it.

 

I'd like to make some smaller ones for the door hatches... but I dont think thats happening.

Yeah I can imagine the cutting process being somewhat hazardous, especially with the level of detail involved.

 

Gildar rift is a fun read, very straightforward pulpy action with a lot of ship battles. There's an interesting scene with the wolf of fenris that makes it very clear some of its former crew are now serving huron (which I don't think was actually canon before, just a reasonable assumption).

The best of the Best. Made up of the Remaining Astral Claws. With the exception of a few of Huron's Wolves that made it into the Retinue. This Power unit recieved alot of their gear from the Wolf of Fenris and their pick of gear from Raids and conquests.

I picked it up at the post office last night. I was hoping to play with it but it's not compatible with my Paasche hose. Anyone know if it's compatible with another brand, Iwatta, or badger?

 

I'm going to Curry's after work to pick one up.

 

What air brush mediums do you use?

I got the hose for the air brush. but I had to unscrew the quick disconnect to attach it.

I started playing with it and painted a marine. I added deeper shadows and highlights.

 

Bad news..
I had the AB in the holder and my leg cought the hose.. which pulled the air brush off the holder... the AB landed right on the needle and tip.

 

My new AB is done.. Im soo pissed! I need to order a new needle and tip.

So I kinda managed to straighten the needle. I tried many things but the tip was still bent a little. Then I got an idea...I put the needle between two exacto knife handles (metal ones) and added pressure while I twisted the needle out. kinda like a lathe. It worked out really well.

I managed to paint some more marines...

 

Not sure whats wrong but the colour is washed out. The shadow should be almost black. I did this guy before i bent the needle I also blacked out some non red areas

I need more pratice with this AB. the 0.15 needle is tiny and it tends to clog very quick. But so far I love it

I ended up doing some basing. Im not too happy with it. I over did it with the weathering powders..Oh well

I normally can't stand that skull helmet, but it looks really good on that guy. Very nice effect on that power sword, by the way! I'm always surprised this thread doesn't have more comments.

Great to see you back and working on these guys again. 

 

You've probably already made you mind up, but I'd say Gildar Rift is worth a read. Just bare in mind it focuses on things from the perspective of the Silver Skulls. With that said it does provide some insights into the Corsairs themselves and Huron's madness.

@ A Kvlt Ghost for that one I did the fur like I would normally do but I lightend up the outer edged with bleached bone. i tried to get a pattern on the back.

So I did some experimenting on battle damage on Red. Here is the result:

In real life the Rhino is red not orange and the yellow is orange

In real life is that black more of a metal colour? When I picture battle damage I think of the metal underneath the paint, either as shiny (from a new scratch) or rusted (from an old scratch).

I still on the fence about bare metal. I tried it before and i didn't like how it turned out. Lighter rust also doesn't work that well on red

Photographing our minis can be a pain the behins sometimes. Everyone thinks my Chaos Marines are red and black instead of orange and black because I can never get the colour quite right in Photoshop. Change things to bring out detail in one place and the tones go wonky in another...

So over the weekend (thanksgiving) I had plenty of time to paint...but I didnt do much. Here is my Rhino with battle damage:

So far i'm pretty happy with the results. I need to chip the black areas. I've also been thinking that this need more black areas. Ignore the green I'll be making that black. Maybe the top raised area around the storm bolter?

the weathering looks really good. If you want more black, what about making the front-plate black, connecting the two black areas on the front corners?

Thanks for the comments guys. I went ahead and added some black. So I masked it off. Which was a pain to do. The masking tape I had was not sticky at all and wouldn't stay on. so I used liquid mask and the tape to make sure. I didn't get any overspray but the liquid mask did tear up some of the new paint. which i had to touch up. enought words .. Photos!!

I need to give it a wash to dull down the highlight and add depth on the black. I haven't done the top hatch with the storm bolter, but I did leave the other red to get the Idea. Im not sure if more black is needed? Let me know what you think? Does it look more Red Corsairs? I think more bronze is need or more symbols?
