Just a quick update to say I've been procrastinating.

In between lamppost painting, I've been painting other stuff...
just to keep my mind on painting, without drowning my enthusiasm with painting just one same process over and over.

You can see some of this over at The Underhive Hero (I painted a dwarf lord)

But my other distraction is yet another side project.

There is a long story to this one, but I wont bore you with its petty/dignified details; just that I'm painting someone else's models for them.

So here is the progress so far;

med_gallery_33843_6479_303389.jpg

med_gallery_33843_6479_279973.jpg

Yup. Ultramarines.

Recently I am so vary rarely am in the mood to paint, so I find it galling to be painting miniatures for another person.... however funny the reason.
But I haven't painted power armour in a while.
With my Salamanders, Sisters, Deathwatch and Grey Knights all receiving attention this year, it is probably something I should get used to again.

Peace!

Hey, I'm back.

This time with fully painted models!

First off is the finished test models for the Ultramarine squad.

med_gallery_33843_6479_556537.jpg

A few touch ups and he should be done.
Nine more to go!

Next up is something I think everyone who had followed my Sister of Battle progress over the years has been waiting for.
A FINISHED TEST MODEL!!

The light washes most of the highlights out.
That being said, I want to bring the bone up 1 shade, and the purple on the tabbard could do with more layers and a brighter final highlight.

But for a proof of concept I'm relativity happy.

I do have a question for you guys though.

What colour should the eyes be?
Red, or Green?

Answers on a postcard please.

Thanks for reading!

  • 2 weeks later...

Aye. I was thinking red or green, but I think red will suit the gold around eyes elnses a bit better.

I have not really done much painting recently. Not really been up to it.
I managed to do a Tyranid test model.

You can look at it here - http://underhivehero.blogspot.co.uk/
(It isn't the happiest of posts).

Hopefully some form of inspiration/energy/whatever will strike soon

So until then, feel free to throw feedback about anything I've posted so far.
Feel free to comment on my blog about any of the things there
(Also check out http://darkhazzl3.blogspot.co.uk/ for my personal blog & board game blog)

All of which will be greatly appriciated

  • 1 month later...

Hi guys. Long time no post.
I did the usual 'get disillusioned with what I'm doing a do nothing for a bit'
That and I fixed my computer... so I've been able to play games recently.

Anyway, a while back you may remember I was moaning about the Adepta Sororitas Codex being somewhat... flawed.
I was hoping that the quality issues would have been fixed.
They have not.

However, I have managed to peice together the answer I needed from the BRB
The rules for hand flamers are in the BRB.
Apparently the ibook version has links to all this information.
The eBook version does not.

So, with that little problem out of the way I managed write a list (Y)

Celestine

Jacobs

Seraphim Squad
1 Veteran Superior + Melta bombs + Power Sword, 6 Seraphim + 2 Pairs of Hand Flmaers

Battle Sister squad 1;
1 Veteran Superiror, 9 Battle sisters + Simulacrum Imperialis + 2 Flmaers

Rhino + extra armour

Battle Sister squad 2;
1 Veteran Superior, 9 Battle Sisters + Simulacrum Imperialis + 2 Melta Guns

Rhino + extra armour

Battle Sister squad 3;
1 Veteran Superior, 9 Battle Sisters + Multi Melta

Retributor Squad
1 Veteran Superior, 9 Retributors + 4 Heavy Bolters + Simulacrum Imperialis

Exorcist

Exorcist

1,500 points

The list is as close to the one I built the army I've posted around.
This version of the Codex is a bit of a let down though.

Acts of Faith are weaker,
Celestine is not as good (still the best thing sisters have got going)
Jacobs is slightly worse too...
No eviscorator for my Seraphim superior which is a bit crappy... it was the only real sting I could muster in combat.

Never mind though... I'd rather settle for less than rebuild the whole army.

But there we go!

Let me know what you guys think.

Peaceout

  • 3 weeks later...

Hey
guys. Still no updates of terrain and/or models. Sorry about that....

I do have a game coming up in a couple of weeks though, so I had another look

That's all. Small update.
Throw opinions at me...

Army lists just don't attract any attention huh?

Well don't worry, I haven't been idle... I've done the usual 'start a new project instead of finishing the old one.'

I've been working on a few pieces of terrain for my board (which still just needs that final lick of paint to be finished).

Stay tuned.

Feel free to have a browse through my previous posts and/or http://underhivehero.blogspot.co.uk/
Any feedback welcome on here or The Underhive Hero, or @darkhazzl3 on twitter

Peace

Hey guys.
Guess what? I finally managed to get my phone working again.
I don't know why it keep having this issue with connecting to my PC, but it works now....so yeah.
Praise the Omnissiah I guess?

Speaking of Omnissiah...

med_gallery_33843_5272_44534.jpg

Got my hands of this bad boy.
I've got to say, overall I'm impressed.
I'm not a fan of big models in games, but I love these guys.
They seem a bit under costed, but time will tell I guess.

My one gripe with the book is that it cost

looking really good .

Thanks fella!

You and Jaspcat are the ones that keep me coming back to post here.

I know people look at this and http://underhivehero.blogspot.co.uk/ but a comment here and there, no matter how short, does wonders for my motivation.

It is like tangible evidence that someone else cares haha.

Also @Squeaky Thanks for the like! Much appreciated.

Was working on my terrain a bit more today, but I haven't got all the pictures I want/ the post written out yet.

I'll work on that tomorrow.

Mainly just basing and adding details.

In the mean time there is a new post at the UnderHive Hero about my glorious finds on ebay (yes I am gloating :P).

If you fancy having a mooch click the link to it in my sig or this post.

And to anyone else reading, feel free to leave some comments, likes, feedback, critique and so on and so forth.

If you're working on something similar feel free to tell me about it here (or anywhere else for that matter!)

just don't flood the post with images (I do that enough already!).

Thanks for reading ;)

Boom. MOAR update. Thick and fast yo'!

Hell yes with the imperial knights, it's good to ally some firepower for the sisters.

Just one question who's land speeder is getting curb stomped also I'm eager to see the finished battle board in it's painted glory

See. You say Jasp's name and BAM! :D

I know right? The allies matrix doesn't overly do much for the Sisters. We've always had it to some extent...
But to have a Knight? It might break the Exorcist domminance that's be so prevalent since, well... forever?

I'm going to attempt to do some board painting tonight and tomorrow. So hopefully that should re-surface soon.
As for the Land Speeder, I haven't decided...

My Marines armies are going to be Salamanders and the Marines Malevolent for the house army.
Neither party overly relies on Land Speeders as they both have limited numbers of them.

I'll probably paint it up as a Salamander. Green is easier :P
On the other hand, the MM I've seen here on the B&C over the years all look epic when weathered....
Suggestions? Thoughts?

Moving on to the (rather large) UPDATE!

Whilst designing terrain I've been thinking of generic terrain types (buildings and craters and such), and themed terrain.
The generic one takes care of itself(ish).
The themed on the other hand, requires a bit more forethought.

The one question I've been focusing on is; 'What armies are going to fight here?'
It is an Imperial World. Couple that with the armies I collect/intend to collect, and you have a starting point.

So far we have the Space Marines Land Speeder. I also have some Sisters themed terrain in the works.
In terms of 'generic theme,' these both don't necessarily fit.
These are both situational; Space marines may, or may not be present.

So what will?

Imperial focres of some variety no doubt. More than likely the planetary defence force.
For all intents and purposes the Imperial Guard.
So I tried to make something bassed around the material they would employ, without being to flash.

I decided to start with a fortified gun emplacement.

First step was to Create the base.
This was just some cork tile stapled to some hardboard and cut to shape using a jewellers saw.

med_gallery_33843_5272_1188172.jpg

Then it was time to play around with some fortifications.

I didn't want to buy another Aegis defence line, also I didn't want anything drastically detailed like the modifications I'd made to mine.
I wanted something that looked like it could be mass produced quickly, and put up in a hurry.
Something prefabricated and modular (that word again!).

med_gallery_33843_5272_16802.jpg

Some wall pieces from the cities of death sprue and some high density foam/ Styrofoam/ insulation foam.
That'll do!

Next I wanted something to add a bit of variety and bite.
I thought I'd take something that time forgot out of my bitz box.

med_gallery_33843_5272_230294.jpg

I wasn't too happy with these as they were.
They obviously are not made to stand alone, and together they look...well...

med_gallery_33843_5272_218704.jpg

Odd?
A bit too uniform, but at the same time, not symmetrical enough (they sort of 'bend' in the middle).
Good old third edition terrain

I also want to flesh out the entrenched gun. I don't think it looks Imperial enough.  Needs some tech gubbins and iconography.

Could always use styrene sheet and make an eagle head and wing on the "shield" armor on each side of the gun and make an aquila with a crotch cannon out of it in the end.

Got to say, I'm loving the mini-terrain pieces you've got going on. I have a similar bunch myself (based on CD's oddly enough) which I haven't yet finished. This is tremendous inspiration to finish them off. Keep it up :)

I'm back.
I've got to say, it has been wonderful coming back to some feedback.
Thanks a bunch :biggrin.:

Thanks BrotherCaptainArkhan. It is essentially the same premiss just different shapes and sizes (My Dwarf army;s artillery basses are CD's :tongue.:).

When you get them done I'd love to see them!

Luckily I've got the Imperial Guard vehicle sprue so I've been detailing it using that and some other bitz and pieces.
I did stick an Aquila on the guard shield/plate/thing in the end. Instant 40K! (Now for the skulls...).

im always poppig in brother, love the emplacement.
more sandbags & barrels please :biggrin.:

Aye! That's true, and I appreciate it immensely :biggrin.:
ALL OF MY YES! Sandbags are definitely what this needs!
Youtub'ed a tutorial and everything. I'll be getting those guys on soon!

Do both since they do not get along, it would be interesting to see.

Good idea! I do have another space marine piece in the works so I reckon I'll do one Sallies and the other MM
I'll decide which is which when I put the complete versions up on here.

On to the update!

As it turns out one of the combatants has had to withdraw from the weekends festivities. As such we had an 'odd man.'
We decided it wouldn't be fair if they just basically sat to one side while we played a game.
In other words; no 40k for me :sad.:
Sad panda.

No matter! I can spend a little extra time and effort on my projects in preparation for the next attempted gathering.
Who knows? I might have painted terrain!

No, but seriously... for this post is...

Gaming Board Project. Stage 13! Streets awash with...wash.

Well, Jaspcat did want to see some Gaming Board painting progress!

So.
Considering it has been so long since this project got updated I'll point you to page 3, or my page 1 update log to refresh your memory...

Back? Did you check?
No?

Well...
.

First off is my tests cheme for the paveing slabs (The set on the right).

med_gallery_33843_5272_54146.jpg

Pretty simple.

- Undercoat black (Chaos black/ Any acyrlic paint),

- Paint dark grey (Any will do. I used Black acrylic and white crylic. But the GW base dark grey would be fine),

- Paint light grey (may require 2 coats; My mix was somewhere between codex and fortress grey/ Mianly white with a hint of black = Pavement grey),

- Wash with watered down black, making sure it goes into the crevices. The while still wet use some tissue paper to 'dab' off most of the paint.
This will leave the paint in the crevices and give the slab a darker tone, with a dappled effect on it.

- Drybrsuh light grey (Might have to do it twice; pavement grey),

- Very light Drybrush light-er grey (pavement grey with more white).

Done!

Better?

Well I did Stage 1, 2 and 3.

med_gallery_33843_5272_676317.jpg

So.

Step 4.
Apply black wash.

med_gallery_33843_5272_796090.jpg

The black wash is just Chaos Black watered done a lot.
Yes you could use a wash alternative...

But this is cheaper.

Apply this liberally to the slabs

med_gallery_33843_5272_947400.jpg

Do not let it dry, but use a bit of scrunched up kitchen towel to dab it off.

med_gallery_33843_5272_211745.jpg

med_gallery_33843_5272_765826.jpg

One side done to show the difference in shade.

med_gallery_33843_5272_1082125.jpg

Continue until all your pavements are done.

And that's all the update I have on that.

It is a bit laborious/back breaking.
I suggest doing it while sitting at something almost chest height.
It is that or suffer :sad.:

That will do for today.
I have more to share, but I'll save it for tomorrow!

As always, thanks for reading.
All feedback welcome and such.

Over and out.

Hey guys.

A little update on two projects here.

First off the gaming board.

I did the dry brushing layers.

med_gallery_33843_5272_560366.jpg

The light washes it out a bit.

My advice here is to use the kind of brush you use to paint a wall/apply wallpaper paste with.
Normal brushes are either too small, thus making the process take ages, or the bristles are too compact, resulting in a more 'painted' effect.

I'll try and find a better picture for next time

Onto the Land Speeder.

The idea behind the Landspeeder is that it was shot down.

I ripped open the back so it looks like the engine took a hit before it crashed.

The obvious issue here is that with a gaping hole in the back, all you can see is flat grey plastic.
So I had to build a engine/turbine.

My first concept was terrible;

med_gallery_33843_5272_805055.jpg

But it gave me the inspiration to make the second;

med_gallery_33843_5272_385587.jpg

med_gallery_33843_5272_598540.jpg

The unit is made from a wooden cog (I bought a pack from ebay), some plasticard tubing and a... thing... from LEGO Bionical.

I appear to have not taken a picture of the second unit before basing.
So here is the first layer of basing (plus second engine) before undercoating and such;

med_gallery_33843_5272_1033893.jpg

med_gallery_33843_5272_353557.jpg

med_gallery_33843_5272_112300.jpg

med_gallery_33843_5272_806462.jpg

And then, with the final layer of basing (Terrible picture);

med_gallery_33843_5272_632597.jpg

The second engine block is made using the same materials as the first.
I added watch pieces (again, ebay) to make spike/rotating thing (I have no idea what it would be called...)

And there we have it.
Another day, another update!

I've done more work on the Gun emplacement.
I am yet to add the sand bags though, so I'll wait until a later date to update you guys on that.

Feedback and such welcome

;)

Death

The board is looking Good, like the wash on the pavement( Bricks ). And the Speeder is coming along nicely ( COOL ). Man I need to start working on my Space Hulk Boards . Actually buy the Material.

Thanks fella :)
Aye.  you should! Post up a WiP log and throw it my way when you do! :D

No new update today.
Some real life stuff has happened so I wont be updating for a few days minimum.

I'll be back soon though!
