Aww man, aren't plaguebearers an absolute joy to paint? Yours look great as per usual. I agree about bftbg being a bit too arterially red. Your recent Nurgle work is a massive inspiration for my upcoming Death Guard. Please, never stop!

The quest I'm on hobby wise is to paint everything I have started for the Templars of DOOooom, so there's tons of Nurgly goodness coming. After these guys are done I'm going to start going through my marines and finishing them up. Plus there are 1 or 2 nurgly warpsmiths on tap, obliterators, more spawn (because everyone needs more spawn) and ... dare I say it... a Nurgle /Space Wolf mashup.  Mot to mention some comics and artwork.  I'll be getting more hobby/art time from the end of the month onwards, so I'll be burning through the Althonian Camoshade.

OK, Augustus. You win. Ms. Charlotte is on ready 5 for the painting table!  A bit more work on Two Toed Ted's gang.  I should have a finished unit in a couple days, I got slowed down by a tooth extraction.... mine, not the plaguebearers.  This is what happens when you worship Nurgle for 20+ years, kids.  I was also distracted by a little photoshop project.  I'm trying to get more comfortable doing artwork entirely digital, so this guy is also in progress.

They are DONE!   Two Toed Ted has his posse!

Some details...

And the backs are pretty gribbly too....

Now the old and the new together... (yes, I know.... I'm building a new photo set up)

Since 20 isn't a Nurgly number and I can use an HQ for an allied force... the herald has begun.  I took out some of the guts and plan to do some sculpting on him

Since I promised Augustus b'Raass, Ms Charlotte is on the painting deck. I blocked in the wings and highlighted the nasty, fleshy body parts. Now for washes upon washes and a ton of detailing.

Cheers ya'll!

That is fantastically gross, Rednekkboss! I love the Plaguebearer posse and the Herald sounds like it will be interesting. Any hints on sculpting? Just new guts, or do you have some maggoty-exiting drippy excitement in store?

Ms. Charlotte looks like she'll be suitably terrifying. :D

Edit: Jeez, it's bright green, and I did miss it just a page back. It looks awesome, I like the "poisoned" idea, and I really like that Two Toed Ted's blade style horns match!

I hope that you'll have a chance to get some of those new Nurgle Marines done up when they finally come out. Your thread is seriously making me reconsider my unaligned/Khornate warband with some tense Tzeentch auxiliaries - I might need some gribbly foul goodness as well.

Any reason behind the red blended to yellow edges on the bladed weapons? (Did I miss it just a page or two back?)

I did the green warp poisony stuff on the blades on my old metal plague bearers because they needed something. The rusty weapons weren't quite enough for me, so I carried it over to the new plastic guys for a unit cohesion thing.  If I want to blob them all together (if I ever play the game) it ties them together. It also helps remind me (since I'm old) that they have poison weapons. :smile.:

As for Mr. 21, I'm going to do some guts and might stick a nurgling in the cavity. I'll do some more details to fit in with the look of the army, bulging infected looking humps, sores and the like. It's likely to be a pretty organic "hey, lets try this!' and/or "Hmmm, I have to use this already mixed green stuff for something" process.

I was planning on getting some Mk3 armored guys and making plague marines, since really I only have Nurgle marked marines done for the army at the moment. But I'm going to hold off an check out the new Nurgle minis when they come out.  As much as I absolutely do NOT need more models.... I know, it'll happen. :) The nice thing is, you can always add a Nurgly unit or two to your army. They are great for holding the line or an objective. Plus, they look cool.

I feel like that upper hole is crying out for a blow/flesh fly larvae (maggot) to be busting loose like a junior Xenomorph chest-burster style! Could have the mouth parts open looking fang-like and everything.

Lovely, lovely Plague Bearers! Can I ask how you use washes? As in, do you thin them, how thick do you lay them on, do you use multiple layers of the same colour? Those kinds of things.

Good to see Charlotte getting some paint!

Thanks everyone, for the kind words.

I do thin them a bit on the pallette sometimes.  I have found you can actually "paint" with the Citadel washes, as in make subtle splotches of color, bruises, etc.  But in general, a light wash is best, you can always add another. Another thing I do, like I've started on Charlottes wings, is an underpainting where I pick out highlights and shadows I want to show through, then begin with the washes.  I mix washes as well, even with thinned paint sometimes, then stipple or dry brush over the highlighted areas.  But for the Nurgly stuff one of my favorites is using purple to deepen the greens.  The citadel washes are very versatile.  But simply, thin washes are better, because you can always add to them.,  I'll try to pay better attention when I paint next time (since its a"listen to loud music/feel the force, organic kind of process" for me) and see if I can't explain it better.... or try to stop myself and take photos.  Charlottes sides and wings will be a perfect subject on my use of washes.

I've got some in progress shots of Ms Charlotte's wings.( For more in depth babblings on the technique and some mindless rambling.. you can also go here-  http://rednekkzmekshop.blogspot.com/2017/04/vision-vs-execution.html

But here's the start.  Left wing: a before shot. Right wing: After first wash.  I use GW shades: Althonian Camoshade, Gryhonne Sepia and Druchii Purple. I tend to thin the washes 50/50 with water and I mix the colors as well, especially using the purple to deepen and/or darken the camoshade. The big thing is to let a wash dry before you lay the next color in.

charlottewings01.jpg

And the wing after several washes, some stippled washes, a little drybrush, another wash and a final light drybrush to pick out some areas. (yes, its upside down... that was the only way to get her to sit still after that much attention)

charlottewings04.jpg

While doing all these washes, you need something to do while waiting for them to dry. Sandwiches and good, playing with kittens, tea, coffee, a shot of bourbon... but I also love to have a side project going, because it totally breaks my train of thought and brings me back to painting with fresh eyes.  The Traitor Legions book told me I need at least one Warpsmith...so  my side project as it started...

warsmith02.jpg

And after a few hours of painting, caffiene and my tentacle maker....

warsmith01.jpg

I'm a little on the fence whether he's good enough or I should jump in to the "Go big or go home" pond... because there is definitely more room for tentacles and mechandrites and nurglings named Charles.

Wings look fantastic. You're really the only person - or should I say mad genius - who comes up with a technique like 'wash stippling'.

I can imagine you're bored during the wait for the wash to dry, and your distrations sound pretty god. Lemme ask you though: after you've finished playing with them, are the kittens still alive?

JK. ;) I do miss Charles, though. I can remember when he spilled his guts all over the cookies when he came over for tea. Also what are you going to do with the wolf-head pincer?

Glad you like the wings.... now I have to do the underside.  Kittens are very healthy (5 weeks old)  I have to feed them again in a few minutes. :)  To be honest the stippling thing came about trying to make some discolored flesh and it was a "Hmmm...Here, hold my beer." kind of moment where I just experimented.  Experimenting with the paints and shades is really the best thing anyone can do.  Sure, you screw up a few times , but sometimes you stumble on to neat stuff.

I guess I should "chaosify" that power claw thingy.  As for Charles, he's a cheeky little monster. You should see what he did to the Elf on a Shelf last Christmas. Still gives me the shivers.

Started work on Ms. Charlottes back. Laying in some of what will be the bruied/inflamed areas.  More details on the procedures at the hobby blog below.

charlotteback01.jpg

The main event this week has been the Warpsmith. After looking at the codex entry I realized he was missing a few things.  SO... I tore off the metal arms and started some madness.  Here's the beginnings of his vice arm. Still lots to do, but its the first layer of green stuff.

Vicearm01.jpg

Then I went after him with two more arms and some green stuff and stopped at this point.

warsmith04.jpgwarsmith03.jpg

Still need to finish a lot back there. The flamer will be more Nurgly and there will be some other nastiness once the main arm is in place to meld all the sculpting into the model a bit better, but he's well on his way to coolness.

Cheers Ya'll!

The fleshy bits on Ms Charlotte's back are DONE.

charlotteback02.jpg

Also got some sculpting done. Finished my Plaguebearer herald...

herald02.jpg

AND.... the Warpsmith is DONE!

warsmith07.jpgwarsmith08.jpgwarsmith09.jpg

I just have to get the bases ready and then these two will be primed.

Cheers Ya'll!

Thanks, gang for the great comments!  Glad you like the Warpsmith. I might have to make another one, he was lots of fun.

You're an evil genius! Everything looks great. I'm amazed at how you managed to make even the Tyrannid wing arms looks gribbly. Did you put liquid green stuff over that?

Glad you are liking the warpsmith and Charlotte! I never really wanted to use those wings when I made her, but ended up doing so anyways. So, to try and de-tyranidize them I put a thin layer of greenstuff in places to make it liio more scaley. Basically I rolled pushed and blended it into the wing with a wet thumb to get it as thin as possible then added texture with s tool. In that case, the old syringe point from a kids science kit.  Sometimes it pays to be a bit of a hoarder. That is, until you have to reorgaize your work room ...which will be part of my "vacation" next week. I'll find all sorts of stuff I've forgotten about, no doubt.
