The Heresy in this thread is astounding. I award you with five out of five litanies of hatred, and petition my lord marshal that you be purged immediately. Rejoice traitor, this is the highest honor i can award your ilk.

Translation: Holy sweet jesus, that's some of the best conversion and gs-work i've ever seen. It's truly disgusting, which i think is an apropriate compliment, and your posing are really inspiring. Really love the eye thing you got going with the ... whatever that monstrosity is, I'll call it the Great Eye from now on, and sentinels. How come you nurglites always possess such maddening conversion skill? Even so yours is amongst the best i've seen from an already impressive mass of talent.  And I haven't even mentioned the painting yet. Good Emperor, am I jelly. Simply stunning.

Rednekkboss, I was wondering how do you paint skin, especially on models like Ahnek Draugar

OH GODS... thats a complicated process. I'll try to answer the best I can. I'll be painting some more skin on models soon and I promise I'll pay better attention so I can give a better description, but here's a try from memory- because its a pretty organic process. (I will likely get some of the paint names wrong- I don't have them in front of me at the moment)

I usually start with an undercoat of a medium tone. In the case of the nurgly guys its usually a grey green or olivey green. I then do a fairly liberal drybrush with something like the Terminus Stone(?). Then I wash the whole skin area with Athonian Shade(?) (the olivey green shade).  The process ends up being a 'repeat and rinse" kind of thing with a drybrush then a wash then some more drybrush, but each time going with lighter tones and picking out the details, then using the shades to excentuate areas. The thing about Nurgly skin is it is very forgiving to experimentation, you can use purple inks to darken shadows, reds to deepen greens. Lots of room for artsy interpretation.  The big thing is trial and error and experimenting. Not sure if that helps, but I'll try to write up something more comprehensive on the next post or so.

In a nutshell:  Drybrushes with progressively lighter tones, with washes in between.

Always nice to be cursed out by the Templars.;)  Thank you, sir, for your kind words. I will endeavor to continue to impress you, for I still have a LOT more to do with this army.

Just in case anyone was wondering what happens when you throw a deamonic gribbly into the engine compartmnet of a Leman Russ, it looks something like this.... at least on Crixus....

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kcyru9J3-cw/URcTcb2VFbI/AAAAAAAABDA/t1qRn8cBuKY/s1600/Demo01WIP.jpg

Looking good brother, which cannon is going on the front?

I'm doing 3. All the main guns are magnetized. I had 2 Demolisher kits and an extra hull, so I've cobbed together 2 demolisher cannon, 2 Executioner(big ol'plasma) cannon, a home-made rotary Exterminator autocannon, 1 punisher cannon and a battle cannon for my choices.  One has fixed Plasma cannon sponsons, one has fixed Multi-melta sponsons (w/ a heavy Flamer on the hull) and the other will have magnetized sponsons for options. Just finished all the sculpting tonight on all 3, now I have to decide what other "CHA-osifying" they need- bodies, trophies, spikies, etc.

Hoping to get these beasties primed so I can get on to painting. Then I have to work on the plague Marine squad and the enigmatic Rhett Bastid - my Typhus stand-in.:woot:

Edited by rednekkboss

The corruption of the tank turrets is done. All the weapon magnetization is done. Now, its just a question of battle damage, baggage, chaos throphies and flotsam.  They should be primed by weeks end. Not I just have to decide on a paint scheme that goes with the overall pallette of the army.

The guy on the right might fill in for Prask.:)  The sentinals are primed and base coated in dark brown, so I should have some painting started on them. When I get to the gribbly parts, I'll try to document the process for the skin and tentacles, because its basically how I'm doing all of the exposed skin in the army. Though I probably get a bit more piddly with the characters.  There's some other 40k stuff on my blog (link below) if you want to check that out.... filthy Xenos stuff.;)

Cheers!

This is seriously nice work rednekkboss! The corruption is really well made on these turrets - can't wait to see them done!

Also your rusty Nurgle marines look the part - I think the rust effect works brilliantly! This is a great thread! Keep 'em coming!

I've finished two of the Leman Russ Demolisher hulls.  The first guy has Multi-meltas outboard and a heavy flamer.

The second (especially with the Executioner Turret) is the "Please don't roll a '1'" hull- with plasma cannons and a Crixus-pattern heavy bolter.

Now on to painting my "allied guard' contingent!  OH... before I go, what happens when you put engines on an Arachnorok Spider? Anyone? Anyone?...... <evil grin>

Think "Helldrake".. but more buggy, Night hunters. :)

I've started working on my dual purpose Cultists/Penal Troops. I've finished the first 6 (plus a detail of 4 of them) The other 14 are in various stages of painting and should be done soon.

A quick update on the tanks and infantry. I have an "in progress" shot of the whole gang - 2 10 man penal squals(cultists) and 4 (yeah...we-uh, captured one.. :) ) Leman Russes-es

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-x28GdymPJ3o/UVPi4E4vGAI/AAAAAAAABIE/tRVZeemdxHk/s1600/TanksNcultistsPIP.jpg

The guys with black base rims are totally done, the others are in various states of close to done. As for the tanks, they'll all end up with a camo pattern similar to this....

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-mipDM6YGVfQ/UVPkE4eBXRI/AAAAAAAABIU/Qkv3w9uJtW4/s1600/DemoPIP02.jpg

I'm thinking of tweeking the 3 Nurgly Demolishers as my fluff has them being built in an occupied region of Crixus which is a good deal drier than where the guys who they captured the other tank came from- kind of like all my dry, dusty bases. So I may add in a Rotting Flesh color and use a darkbrown or grey for the contrast instead of Chardonite Granite (yes, I still have some!) As for the rust red panels. I plan on rusting/dirtying them up a bit and adding an Icon. I had toyed with half a Chaos Star ala Vraks, but I'm heavily considering half of an Iron/Bronze Fly since it IS  pretty much the Icon of the Sons of DOOooom.  What say the Brethren?

Once I get done with this lot, I'm thinking about dusting off my loyalist Raptor Marines, since I've started a small Tau contingent and I hear they have a new book coming out soon. Though I do have a couple flyers to build as well. I've already started the base to one, which I'll have to post soon as its a comic nod to my mate NightHunters and the lovely flyer he did http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/220620-night-hunters-wip-pic-heavy/

Also aquired a new air compressor to replace my 30 year old one, so hopefully Blinky will be on deck soon.

This is all very exciting!

Love the Russ' , very cool camo, I recognise it from somewhere but after more internet searches than my search history can reasonably take I still can't place it, any tips?

Regards the rust red  would go with the fly for sure!

And can't wait for the flyer and blinky to make their respective appearances!

The vehicle camo is actually based off of the German WW2 Waffen-SS "oak leaf" pattern, but I changed the colors.

A Quick update on the Russes.   I nailed down my color pallet for the camoflage and here's a shot of the turrets at stage #3 and #4.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-7bKrd_4wTW8/UWUOalh_4VI/AAAAAAAABJY/i51fFOBO7jI/s1600/TurretsPip02.jpg

There's some more specifics on my blog (link below)... but I have a LOT of freehand ahead of me. :)

The basic camo is done on the tanks. Here's the turrets with various magnetized main guns....

And one of the tanks together to show the effect.. Next, details and weathering..lots of weathering.

Progress update on the Leman Russes. Camo is done. Basic colors are blocked in and weathering has begun. There's few more in progress pics on my blog. Here's the Demolisher with the basic undercolors blocked in for metal, rusty and organic areas.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9IAZtdpzKjQ/UZyzNVHCAjI/AAAAAAAABK8/hVLbRMT4Sl4/s1600/tanksPip06.jpg

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dZLYwMehR6A/UZyzf0tPicI/AAAAAAAABLE/HCGQ5K6aLfE/s1600/TanksPip07.jpg

The one on the left hasn't had any weathering done to it yet. The one on the right has had some drybrushing and a wash done, but still plenty more to do. I 'm at the point where I decide if any decals are going on before any more weathering is applied. Still Several steps to go.

Here's an update on the tank infestations. Step one

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Fs9P0KMXeM8/UaxTGoVxsuI/AAAAAAAABMI/IqwnV_kYX_M/s1600/FleshprimeA.jpg

On the left is the base color P3 Cryx Bane Highlight. On the right, the base is drybrushed with GW Rakarth Flesh. Then a bit of GW Rotting Flesh to highlight things.

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PudjNmLWwrc/UaxUFpFjtwI/AAAAAAAABMg/0uZwKOtGw3c/s1600/Washflesh01.jpg

The first set of washes (still fresh as you can see)  I start with GW Leviathan Purple wash. The right half is just the purple. The left has a wash of GW Athonian Camoshade, which the whole thing will get. And here they are dried...

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-c4VAOP67_1I/Ua1cM4-rVmI/AAAAAAAABMw/WVKZaTyX9PI/s1600/Washflesh02.jpg

Then i painted over the wash with several highlighting colors (GW Elf Flesh + Rotting Flesh, P3 Tentacle Pink, Reaper Lich Purple, to name a few) I ended up with something like this....

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--mgNdP6N4z4/UbFSgKkon8I/AAAAAAAABNA/xH-McsgxweY/s1600/Washflesh03.jpg

Then its time for some washes and glazes. GW Leviathan Purple, Waywatcher Green, Althonian Camoshade, even Baal Red in places. Done!  Same process ongoing with the other tanks, then on to the rustparts, which will get a couple applications of crackle medium in the interim.

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-XQW79q0n5fQ/UbFTC1fIhHI/AAAAAAAABNI/7Tbrp2MEVBk/s1600/Washflesh04.jpg

More to come. Cheers Ya'all!

The Yak: Cheers, mate! Love your Raptors as well... though I think as a fellow Raptors player I'm almost obligated too ;) .  I've found you can mix weathering powders with washes, BTW.. more to come on that, but a great and very cool thing for those of us who like gritty models (unlike those sissy Ultramarines)

Anyways... a real quick update. All of the basic flesh colors are done on all the tanks. Leman Russ #3 has her camo finished and since I've been painting flesh and seem to have a formula, look who else got dusted off and got some new paint.....

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pdvCqIq6WQE/UcEQsjnRLfI/AAAAAAAABNc/rEnpyUoV6E4/s1600/Wrkbench01.jpg

I ripped Ms. Blinky off her base and have started her fleshy parts along with the tanks and sentinals.  As much as I just LOOOoooooooove all this painting, I'm getting really eager to do some building/converting, so I hope to have the beginnings of my Typhus stand-in started soon. So keep an eye out.
