  • 2 weeks later...

Here is the first wip of the next batch of 30K Dark Angels.

These still need some detail work but the general idea is there.

The Anvil Industries figures are a pleasure to work with

The single head is an old one just so you can see what they will end up looking like.

The plan is to have them complete by next weekend but we will see ;)

I've been thinking about getting some aswell. These are the first painted ones I've seen so far and they look better than I expected actually.

Any chance of a scale shot with a GW model? (though seeing as the head fits well, I'm guessing they'll hardly stand out)

give me 5 mins - I will do a side by side with one of the FW ones

Edit...

All 3 of the models are almost exactly the same height from boot sole to collar. I have stuck a mark III helmet on this time but it needs a little altering for a proper fit (the raised collar gets in the way).

Hope this help :)

This was a complete week of failure and lack of progress for me... :wallbash:

For a start - serious head cold caused lack of motivation at the start of the week then...

I had sprayed the arms and was into the second evening of painting them up when I noticed that the paint was coming off in my hands.

Some :censored: person (me) had forgotton to clean the mold release agent off the resin!

After washing with soapy water the paint still would not stick so I got fed up and threw them into a jar of surgical spirits overnight. They are being resprayed now!

I am hoping for more progress this week.

Thanks Stobz - I have just finished head banging the table to try to beat some common sense into myself! :wallbash:

I've not tried petrol before.

I normally use warm soapy water but this time I had to use surgical spirits/meths which is normally safe for plastic but resin should not be left in it too long or it turns into a Nurgle conversion.

I use acetone (usually found in nail varnish remover) for metals but resin and plastic will vanish in this.

normal soapy water works fine for Scibor resin, interesting that it didn't do the trick on the Anvil minis......they do look cool though....have you seen the new Black Ops Exo Lords that they are doing now?....they are just awesome for Legion Recce troops!

"These arn't the droids your looking for - move along - move along"

Finished at last - after the delay last week I tried to pull out all the stops to get these done. Another twitchy moment was caused about 4 hours when I was rear ended by another car on the way home with them in the boot and thought that I would have resin shrapnel flying about but it all turned out ok. Only minor damage to the car - the models pulled through ok :laugh.:

Anyway on to the photos...

Sgt and Chainsword marine

The Chainsword/bolter guy is a combination of the DV RW Sgt torso, Anvil legs and RW extras sprue bolter. I think he turned out good

Standard Marines

They are a real mix of different armour/powerpack and weapons types with bits from GW, FW and Anvil Industries.

Very interesting to put together....

I have kept the squad markings off for now as I might go for them being veterans as the HH models progress - but, as you can see from the LH knee, they do belong to 4th Company.

C&c welcome

looking good! I really like the kitbash of all the different parts from.. everywhere.. all the different model weapons etc really gives the squad a more unique veteran feel where each marine has been gifted with some sort of chapter treasure (it also feels like it's an old chapter that treasures and maintains it's old armory - as it should ;)).
