elmo
As the weekend is the only time I can upload photos without the boss flipping out here is the first picture for Novembers vow.... A ten man Squad of Knights of Caliban with Melta and Plasma Cannon. Points value to be confirmed. http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/B%20and%20S%20WIP/PB030006.jpg Also I have been led astray and have started another project which is not PA (Imperial Guard). These may become allies or it may turn into another army ;) Obviously I will not be putting up any pictures of this side project on this forum but feel free to click on the link so see what else I am getting up to ;)

Isiah
I'm sure you'll do fine. That's an interesting take on the DA -- with the bone shoulder pads -- so can't wait to see how they turn out.
Interrogator Stobz
Choco-chip are cool Brother Elmo!!! Damned meatsacks will be a great bullet soak for you 'real' fighters :woot: I used to paint my Sgt's shoulder pads bone as a matter of denoting DW status (until my repaint), I am soooo looking forward to seeing your new force of coolness incarnate :woot: Esp on the modified FW stuff you have there ;)
elmo
Thanks - choco-chip is the way to go :woot: I was planning to do the pads in white but I might try a very pale sand instead. They are in the spray shop now ;)
elmo
The first 5 are ALMOST done - just need some DA bling B) http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/PB090003.jpg http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/PB090004.jpg http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/PB090009.jpg http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/PB090010.jpg http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/PB090011.jpg http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/PB090012.jpg http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/PB090005.jpg http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/PB090008.jpg http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/PB090007.jpg http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/PB090006.jpg I have gone for the 4th Company to match my 40K DA - and cause I can ;) And the weapons are staying red! I know that one of them has the modern DA icon but I was trying things out and forgot about it till it was too late. C&c always welcome :) Legio Draconis and Malcifer 2 Back to top
Cloud Runner
Really excellent execution on an iconic picture and them - jobs a good 'un! I'm really interested to hear how you did the colours on these, the black, bone and gold are all really nice. I'm experimenting with a few bits n pieces in a similar vein at the moment, so differnt colour swatches are alwys good ot see :) Cheers
FinylCut
Elmo9141: I'd say you nailed the look you were going for; the shoulder pads are fantastic. These guys are very gritty and war-torn. FC

I'm experimenting with a few bits n pieces in a similar vein at the moment, so differnt colour swatches are alwys good ot see :) Cheers I stay true to the KISS method of painting :) The black: Army Painter Matt black spray Chaos Black - well watered down Dry brush in Codex grey and then in Fortress grey Loads of Black ink/wash to tone down the armour panels Final highlight with watered down Codex grey right on the edges The Gold: Black undercoat Multiple layers of Shining gold to get a consistant layer Loads of Devlin mud Edge highlight in Burnished gold The Bone: Loads of layers of watered down Bleached bone devlin mud wash around the rivets Main tip - water down your paints - It takes longer to paint the model but the end coverage is much better with multiple thin layers than with one or two lumpy layers ;) Thanks FC - It seems to have worked well on the shoulder pads. This was done with a stipple brush and chaos black on a skull white background. Edited November 9, 2012 by Elmo9141

elmo
It is NOT a good start - GW has enough of my hard earned beer tokens as it is :P I will force myself to paint all the stuff in the cupboard first before I buy any new resin to feed my habit :P Imperial Guard Nids 3 x DV boxes Shed loads of Tau Top half of a Landing pad and some LOTR figures Must keep painting....... elmo
Thanks Brother Immolator but the DV boxes have found their rightful place :P Not too happy with the way the power sword turned out at the moment - looks angrily at the paint brush :P

Wraithwing
Hubba hubba! I've sworn off doing Heresy era Dark Angels, but I read The Lion this afternoon, and that, combined with these stunning minis, are weakening my resolve not to! Curse you all! elmo
Thanks Brothers - your comments always motivate me to go that little bit extra :) 5 in Mark IV armour to do now (1 with Plasma) then I will go back and bling/weather all 10 together. Bryan Blaire
Elmo, those five "Knights of Caliban" are as fine-looking as five fervently devoted sword and grenade launcher rifle wielding maniacs can be! You did a great job on their paint scheme, and I really like the way the white background on the shoulder pad stands out, it isn't overpowering, but draws the eye to your Legion icons very well. I wouldn't worry about the "modern" DA icon there, I actually think it's very cool to mix all different styles of DA iconography on the Heresy models, because even with standardization across the Legion, they had different Chapters, etc, so I'm sure some different imagery snuck in, even into individual squads. The power sword is good, but one side the lightning splits into a three prong and the middle prong doesn't extend past the others and ends somewhat abruptly, instead of extending all the way to the sword tip like it does on the other side. Everything else about it looks very nice. Not too keen on the hooded head with no other cloth on the armor, but it's like that in the picture and you pulled it off very nicely. I like all the little markings, they are very cool and you did them extremely well. They really add to the atmosphere of the models. I like your little helmet wing additions as well, they do the same. I applaud your continuing use of the 4th Company iconography and the red on the weapon bodies came out very nicely. These guys are great 30K Marines, but they will make fantastic veterans for your 40K force. Awesome work! (BTW, thanks a bunch for the paint recipes, at least I can use yours, unlike Stobz's :jaw:)
elmo
Not too keen on the hooded head with no other cloth on the armor, but it's like that in the picture and you pulled it off very nicely. Thanks Bryan - Like I wrote I was trying to keep quite close to the book art ( plus I am fairly c**p at green stuff robes). I was not too sure of the hooded head on its own but it has started to grow on me and I have a spare helmet painted up ready just in case :jaw: The sword def. needs repainting as I was in a bit of a rush to get it ready for the pictures. That will be done this week :jaw: No problems on the paint recipes - I have loads of the old colours still so I think it may be a while before I switch to the new names (I might head off more towards Vallejo paints first as I find them really good). And go 4th :jaw:
elmo
I have done a quick repaint on the sword and it looks better now - photos next time ;) I have been a little lazy this week and not done as much as I would have wished but here is the progress on the MKIV PA... http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/B%20and%20S%20WIP/DA%20painting%20challenge/PB160001.jpg http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/B%20and%20S%20WIP/DA%20painting%20challenge/PB160002.jpg http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/B%20and%20S%20WIP/DA%20painting%20challenge/PB160003.jpg http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/B%20and%20S%20WIP/DA%20painting%20challenge/PB160004.jpg http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/B%20and%20S%20WIP/DA%20painting%20challenge/PB160005.jpg http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/B%20and%20S%20WIP/DA%20painting%20challenge/PB160006.jpg http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/B%20and%20S%20WIP/DA%20painting%20challenge/PB160007.jpg http://i814.photobucket.com/albums/zz66/jonbrooks_photo/B%20and%20S%20WIP/DA%20painting%20challenge/PB160008.jpg I had to "aquire" the 4 powerpacks from some old marines I had laying around as the correct ones seem to have disappeared :) I hope to have these complete and both the MKIII and MKIV weathered by next weekend. Captain Semper
This is so beutiful Elmo... The weathered white on the shoulder pad is just superb... This is a project you have every right to feel proud... I just can't wait to get going myself! 30k FTW! ;) Regarding the "lost"power packs, maybe you should look at certain lupine relatives of yours! :P

And I agree, it looks brilliant! :P
