Something quick for the end of the month (hopefully). Quad mortar needs to be overpainted, the Devastators will be done from scratch - heavy flamers simply because I have the bits...

As the saying goes, you can only beat what's put in front of you and I've been up against some casual lists or learning lists this season, but I'm undefeated during Arks of Omen.

 

P: 11, W: 11

 

This has been a combination of experience, but also thanks in part to sticky objectives. Each list has around 3-4 five man Tactical Squads (some of my lists have a RoW Character too) and these have been the underrated stars of the show quietly going about their work whilst the scarier stuff is forcing people to react. I have found 9th fun for the most part (couldn't buy a win earlier in the edition though) and I'm looking forward to having to rejig everything in 10th and re-learn how I want to play the game.

5k Game

 

Yes, that's right. A 5000 points match Vs Crimson Fists as my first game of 10th. Just going to post some pictures and a summary of what went on. Suffice to say, the game took around twelve hours to play excluding things like Deployment and setup (which we did the evening before). My opponent is fairly new to the hobby and wanted to experience this sort of thing with the majority of this force, and who am I to deny it? 

 

My force can be seen a couple of posts above, but it looked like this:

And here was the map. Due to the tables available, it was a 84x60 board. Deployed down the long board edges, both of us opted for Tactical secondary missions (basically, this is an oversized Onslaught game).

Deployment

 

Can't remember the Mission name, but it's the one where you can empower the No man's Land Objectives for more VP if you get a Character near it. Mission rule was Secret Intel which helped a fair bit with the Secondaries.

 

My Deployment looks like this:

There's a lot of stuff off the board and you'll see a batter angle of it later, but the Bunker was placed in front of my home Objective and I put the Devastator Squad, RAS, and an Inquisitor inside to farm for CP (only managed it once all game but...)

Almost everything on the board bar the two Terminator Squads and the Tor Garadon and his Aggressor block.

Blood Angels nabbed first turn.

 

T1

 

Pods arrived in the centre to claim both Objectives there. Return fire took out the Pods themselves, but left their cargo mostly unscathed. Termite arrived on the flank ready for next turn fun. Whirlwind made use of the Land Speeder's spotter rule on the Oath of Moment target (Desolation Squad) to excellent use. a few trades of fire saw some wounds on various vehicles and the Vindicator Laser Destroyer outshining the Cerberus on this occasion.

T2

 

BA started to strengthen their half of the board and whilst they focused down numerous units, they lost their big tanks this turn too; in fact when the Cerberus exploded it took out the Vindicator's remaining wounds too (it dealt 4 MW...) following a long charge from some Terminators. However, the Stormraven arrived on the other flank which took a lot of units out of position to deal with it (and it's cargo).

T3

 

Terminators arrived in the centre of the board, with the Scouts near their home objective, giving the BA side extremely good board control. This enabled them to rack up points this turn and the next. All the CF player could do was to be reactive at this point and try to claw some positioning and points back. The Terminators tanked a lot of fire, but survived just about. The Aggressor block arrive this turn and was demolishing anything in range. Sanguinor tried to move this turn and was BBQ'd by the Redeemer in Overwatch (tanks can shoot out of combat, etc, etc)

T4 & T5

 

With the CF player moving more things into range a lot of BA units started to perish T4 and definitely in T5. Yet some clever play in T4 with the Scouts (using Guerrilla Tactics) helped rack up the Secondary Objectives too. T5 I didn't have much left at all. With the Death Company and Tycho finally free of the Redemptor (Read "Black Rage" properly next time!) they finally got to move around a bit...
